Here’s what I want in a wine and spirits shop: 1. It is on my way. 2. It has a few good wine options in each category/varietal that are under $ 15(particularly rioja, carmenere, tempranillo, garnacha, and cabernet sauvignon). 3. It has a few good scotch and bourbon options($ 50-$ 80). 3. Its people are nice and pleasant to deal with. J’s is all of these things. I’m a fan.

i like this place; stop by sometimes after yoga… I always see the same guy — he’s super helpful, friendly and wipes down my bottles… I’m on here because I’m trying to figure out the store hours and more importantly, will it be open during blizzard Juno? I need to stock up!

This guy is always so very pleasant, helpful and on point with his wine selections! The only downfall which is MYOWN is I never remember the nice wines he chooses for me. Dratsss! 5 to the very awesome, good looking chap that runs this store! The End

i think the guy read the previous posts and worked on his Custey skills. i waltzed in no knowing a clue about wine and immediately asked the owner for some suggestions.(ireallywanted to get drunk fast) He knew that i was a beginner and recommended light wines. he was nice and informative about the taste and quality and assured my buy. Now im going back to stock up on the wine i bought! it was sooooo good!

This place gets a one star from me, if I could I would give it a minus one! I’ve given this place several chances but the owner is soooo RUDE! Every single time I have step foot in here I come out in a bad mood. The last time me and my boyfriend decide to have some wine and since this is the only liquor store close to us we came here. My boyfriend is asking the only guy working there something about wine, and the guy totally ignores him and when he does finally answers he answers rudely! I’m done with this place, you won’t be getting any money from me!

I’ve been here about a dozen times. They have some good cheap wine selections. I usually get the same bottle of wine. When I’m feeling a bit frisky, I might purchase a cheap fat bastard rose wine. The owner also makes some good advice for those who don’t know jack about wine a/k/a myself.

J’s is your bland, run-of-the-mill liquor store. They have the booze you expect them to have, no more, and maybe a bit less. The prices are about in line with everything else in DUMBO(moderately expensive). The owner is there to answer your questions, but he certainly isn’t volunteering any help or a smile. If I lived in DUMBO, I would reluctantly pick up a bottle here on the way home from the F Train, because I’m too lazy to go out of my way to find better prices, and a better selection. But I don’t live in DUMBO, so I just reluctantly picked up a handle of Tito’s($ 36 with tax) on the way back to the F Train, because I was too lazy to go out of my way to find better prices, and a better selection.

I bought a case of wine for a work party because I was too pressed for time to walk as far as Blanc et Rouge on Washington st. Boy, did I regret it. Agree with previous reviewer, a very negative energy in here, customer service is a minus 1. It’s a liquor store, I don’t need show tunes or hipster décor. What I would like is the staff smile once in a while and not look at me like I am about to stick the place up.

With sushi, there are two main grades(besides über-haute and nasty cheapo). You’ve got your cuisine-sushi(i.e., Ushiwakamaru, maybe Blue Ribbon), and then there’s you utility sushi(like delivery places or Gourmet Garage). If the same with liquor stores, then J’s is a solid utility joint. It’s got your Tito’s and your $ 12 Bordeaux, and if you need a quick holiday gift, it’s got your Johnny Walker Blue in a presentation box. There’s no charm, but it’s well stocked.

Oh joy! My neighborhood has just made it easier for me to acquire booze. Too bad J’s shelves are only half-stocked, and half-stocked with booze that’s only mediocre at best(except Hendrick’s. Thank you for having Hendrick’s). If a store could have negative atmosphere, this would be it. There’s about as much character in here as a gas station qwik-e-mart, except that at least in a gas station qwik-e-mart there are usually some funny snacks on display, like beef jerky. Beef jerky makes me laugh. But nothing in J’s W&S made me laugh, it just made me kind of sad. And I don’t like being sad when I buy booze, I like being happy, because buying booze means I’m going to be drunk soon.
