I hesitated to write this review, as I love this place and don’t want it to get too crowded. The staff is amazing. I always show up expecting to have just one beer, but wind up having three. The food is good, though the menu a little bit limited. But this might be because I’ve been here 500 times. Each one of those 500 times I had to steal myself against ordering the chicken wings again. I love them so much. I don’t want to get tired of them.

Nice place with lots of draft beers to choose from. I came here on a Saturday afternoon to just hang out with a friend and grab a glass of wine(or two). We enjoyed chatting and relaxing in the quiet atmosphere for about an hour. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I’ll probably be back again.

The food is alright. The service is pretty bad. Only place close by for a beer and some wings so I will most likely be back. Not the place to go out of your way for.

Such a great pub. My only complaint is it doesn’t open for lunch! But that’s seriously it. Great food regularly, including the specials. Wonderful rotating beer list. Solid wait staff — both bar and restaurant — and interesting regulars. I always liked it but with consistent performance this has become my favorite neighborhood pub. Keep it up Henry St and I promise to keep bringing folks by!

This was the perfect place for a nice pint after a movie night with the boyfriend. The bartender was super welcoming and recommended us beers based on our preferences. Very knowledgable! I’d recommend this place for a nice neighbourhood drink.

Cheers for the beers. When you are in this place, please don’t forget to try out their amazing beers. The beer here is special, you cant find anything like this in other places. And the barista here is quite the gentleman. I like having my beer when there’s a man like tha around. Good beer place!

Came with a group of people on a weekday tonight and we were turned away because they couldn’t seat a party this big. We were 10 people only wanting drinks but they didn’t want the hundreds of dollars of business we would bring. No problem. We’ll take our money elsewhere.

Saw it on Unilocal and was looking for a laid back place to grab a beer and some food after A LOT of walking around Brooklyn. Was excepting it to be a decent neighborhood place without the frills but what I got was SO much better. Was super impressed with how good the food was — we shared this western grilled chicken sandwich that has ham, pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo, bbq sauce, onions and peppers & the chili con carne. Both were AMAZING. Best grilled chicken sandwich I’ve ever had out. Such amazing food for such an inconspicuous place. The beer was also excellent — decent prices for some local brews and other brews I hadn’t heard of. None of the crappy beer in this place. It also seemed like there were locals and neighborhood folks in the bar talking to the bartender which I always like in a bar. So great experience, don’t let the semi low rating fool you — you must go!!!

Updated review… YOUGOTTOCOMEHERE!!! Rotating drafts, good food, and great people. I really can’t say anything bad. One tip… sit at the bar if possible.

This is my go to neighborhood pub. Fantastic beer selection. They also rotate selections which is nice. The bartender Pete is awesome, and knows the beer selections well. He can give you a recommendation based on your preferences. In addition, they have an excellent selection of whiskey. The food is a must try also. The nacho plate is great! So is the chicken burrito. However my favourite thing on the menu is the western chicken sandwich. It’s so good. Plus they give you the option of sweet potato fries which is really nice. My only complaint is that they are not open later. That way I could visit even more. Overall a must try.

Never coming back to this place! My friends and I were looking for a chill place to have some drinks and we thought this was the place. We were wrong! We were told we were too loud on a Sunday night on a holiday weekend. We decided to get the check and leave. We were told they couldn’t take 4 credit cards & they couldn’t split the bill. We had to call the mgr to have the matter resolved. The food sucked but the beers were good, still not coming back.

you know how people say«I’m only giving this place one star b/c you HAVE to give them a star»? well, here it goes: My friends and I just finished walking the Bklyn bridge, naturally we’re thirsty — so we came into here thinking«oh, here’s a chill bar — let’s sit for a minute» HOWWRONGWAS I. I walked in and saw 5 seats at the bar open, and there were 7 of us. The bartender spotted us RIGHT when we came in, and yelled out«How many of you are there?(doesn’t wait for an answer), We are a restaurant — no standing. All of you get out. OUT.» It was so terrible, all the patrons looked over(even the ones who were standing at the bar!!). Shoots puzzled look, and checks sign outside to make sure i didn’t walk into a run down/shanty bar version of Peter Lugers Steakhouse. So firstly, i thought this was an Ale House/Bar? If you’re not an alehouse, GASP, your sign is wrong. Secondly, we are wearing casual clothes for walking around the city — if you can tend bar in t-shirt and jeans, please don’t give me that look that I need to be in a ball gown with a corsage on hand. If you’re looking for somewhere chill to hangout, this is not the place. Bartender was extremely rude, and i have a feeling that if we had sat down… the service would have been just as terrible.

Pretty standard ambiance for an NYC bar with very friendly service. They carry an interesting selection of micro brews, and interestingly no macros. Good for them. I tried a Belgian white which was very very mild in taste, almost watery and very little alcohol. Kinda disappointing brew. Try the other beers and lemme know how they taste.

A true neighborhood bar. Great beers on tap.(no bud here!) Consistently solid food & high quality specials. You might not expect it, but this place has great Mexican food. The staff is personable & inviting. All of the bartenders bring their own personal touch to the place. One of my favorite places.

Nice relaxed vibes and atmosphere. A very quiet relaxing place to get a beer. It seems like one of those places where you would actually want to get snowed in as long as they dont run out of beer or their delicious fries.

Great neighborhood pub with a extensive beer list. I came in with a friend for their chicken pot pie for a cold January night. It did not disappoint. They put the phyllo dough on top of a bowl of chicken pot pie filling goodness and when you break up the phyllo and miss the two it’s like heaven. Definitely would recommend Henry Street Ale House for comfort foods like burgers, pot pie and shepard’s pie.

Love this bar. When I lived in Brooklyn, this was a regular place for me, usually coming once every other week. Unfortunately I moved out to New Jersey which makes it a little more difficult to drop by since it’s an extra subway ride, but I still do try to come here every couple months. The ale house is super easy to get to, it’s literally a block away from the High Street subway station on the A and C lines. They do a pretty good job managing the seats at the bar so you always have a place to sit when you walk in. The beer mix is an eclectic one– but I say that in a good way. I normally consider myself fairly well educated with beers, but I often find ones here that I’ve never heard of. The food here is definitely a notch above your regular bar grub. The chicken pot pie is enormous, and there’s always a few daily specials worth checking out. Wish the owner of this place would consider opening another location closer to where I live. The place has definitely grown on me since I wrote my original review a while back.

Ordered: bottle of Belgian beer Ambiance: low-key, dark, wooden bar and furniture, one bartender(Sunday night before Labor Day). Beer selection: good. List of about 10 – 12 bottles of big Belgian and/or high-gravity beers. Duvel, Delerium Tremens and Chimay were the only recognizable brews on the menu. Also a good selection selection of off-the-cuff draughts. Price: moderate. Summary: a fine pub with a good beer selection.

This place is a diamond in the ruff for the Dumbo area — frequented mostly with«event spaces» and the like. Stepping into Henry Street is like stepping into a little sanctuary! The bar is warm, cozy and inviting. The beer list(both draft and bottle) is impressive, with a rotating tap of solid, craft beers(both domestic and imported) and amazing Belgian brews by the bottle(from memory, they had Delirium, Scaldis, Kwak, Golden Carolus, Duvel, La Chouffe(which I ordered), and Chimay). They also had another personal favorite of mine– Capt Lawrence Liquid Gold on tap! Bartender was very friendly, though he kept forgetting to refill my poor friend’s water, which was kind of annoying. I ended up ordering the hummus to soak up some of the alcohol and it was a generous portion of both hummus and pita. The other food looked and smelled very good — I would say they serve«above average» food for a bar of this type… it’s that upgrade you always seem to get when«ale house» is affixed to the name of an establishment in NYC! Total bill came out to around $ 60 for the hummus and 5 rounds of high quality beer. Very reasonable! If I’m ever in the neighborhood again, I’ll definitely stop by!

Their Jumbo wings are very good, the chicken pot pie was decent. They also have a good selection of tap beer. Happy Hour M-F 50 cent wings! And yes great service. Why wouldn’t I be back?
