Good Friends Chinese Restaurant

I continue to be impressed by this very excellent take out/​delivery restaurant.
Everything that I’ve ordered is fresh, crunchy, spicy and delicious. And it always arrives very hot off the stove. Hits the spot for me.

I live right around the corner and these guys are a weekly staple of mine and my roommates. Solid saucy American Chinese food.
Great portions, very cheap, very reliable, very kind. These people work hard, and I’m pretty sure this is a family business.
I always order for pickup on the phone and they have my usual fare ready in 10 minutes. I tend to walk past them to the wine store down a few blocks, then double back and my order is ready for pick up.
My roomies love the chicken and broccoli.
My boyfriend always gets the sesame chicken.
I’m a vegetarian and health conscious so I always get the steamed tofu with brown or garlic sauce and brown rice. There is no extra charge for brown rice! Also they offer to put the sauce on the side too if you like. I always feel full and happy. My usual accompaniment is the hot and sour soup, which makes for great left overs. Delish!
This is no fine dining of course, but it is a solid Chinese hole-​in-​the-​wall you can rely on time after time.
Is it bad I have them on speed dial?

The food is consistent, the staff is great, the prices are beyond reasonable. Exactly what I would expect from a neighborhood fast food spot.

I wish I could give Good Friends 0 stars but alas, this is the lowest star I can give.
Granted the food is decent but a recent incident has prompted me to come on here and give a review and adivse people against ordering from Good Friends Chinese Restaurant on Tompkins Ave opposite the 79^th precinct.
Today, I got a phone call from them ACCUSING us of ordering food and having a bunch of kids in front of the building rob the delivery person and taking the food without paying them, I’m not denying that this does happen all over the city but I don’t appreciate being accused of this. Firstly; we didn’t not order from Good Friends today, secondly; we ALWAYS have a good track record with our past deliveries from this restaurant including giving them good tips, Thirdly; our number DID NOT match the address of the building the delivery person was robbed.
My sister and I went back and forth with the caller from Good Friends telling him we were not the ones who ordered the food and we would NEVER rob the delivery person, we always paid for our food including tips. Good Friends did not back down from their accusations. They told us the delivery person called a diffrent number and a kid answered. Obviously, it was NOT our number or else we would have RECIEVED that call and told the delivery person that we did not order the food. They picked our number because we ordered delivery from them on Friday, I guess they just looked through the recent delivery reciepts and we were the «winners». Again, NO DELIVERY PERSON CALLED US TODAY TO TELL US THE DELIVERY IS HERE TODAY. Good Friends Chinese Restaurant only called our number ACCUSE US, even though they know we never gave them any problems during the few years we ordered delivery from them.
As a result they are not going to deliver anymore, that’s fine I understand, it’s a caveat of urban life and I don’t mind calling in an order for pick up. However, I do not appreciate someone calling our home and accusing us of something we did not do. As a result I will not support GOOD FRIENDS CHINESE RESTAURANT anymore and I encourage others to find another Chinese take out to patronize. To me it’s just not enough to tell my close circle of friends and family to stop ordering which is why I’m on Unilocal,to advise anyone interested against supporting an establishment that will not support its good patrons because of a few bad ones.
This is just an advisement, if you want to order ignore my story and still order from them go ahead, if you do get an accusation phone call please come on Unilocal and let us know.

Not really feelin’ it… had the General Tso’s and it wasn’t very tasty. Portion size was pretty good… if it’s late and you live in a two block radius it beats the bodega…
