I must say Fefita’s definitely hits the spot as the only Dominican takeout in the Crown Heights-Utica area. They have food pre-made so you can just point at what you want. A small plate with 1 entrée + rice and beans is about $ 6-$ 7, depending on the kind of meat you get. Empanadas are fried once you order, so you get them hot and fresh. They have limited pastry options, but the owner might start selling tres leches and Dominican cake soon — definitely something I’m looking forward to! Oh, and this place gets 5 stars because of the owner’s overwhelming warmth and kindness.

Fefita’s is currently listed here as an American restaurant, but it’s really a Dominican joint. My co-worker, who is half Dominican, introduced me to Fefita’s, and says it’s the best Dominican place that she knows in the five boroughs. They serve classic dishes that remind her of her mom’s cooking. Some of the food is premade and you can point at what you want. From the looks of the menu you can have items made to order as well. Plan to get takeout, since there’s only one table with two chairs. My favorite dish so far is the Bistec Encebollado(pepper steak), which is tender and savory. For beverages, I always get the chinola(passionfruit) drink. My other colleague couldn’t pronounce the name and somehow mangled it into«chicka chicka long long.» Whatever you want to call it, on a hot summer day it’s sweet Dominican crack and a half.
