Best burger in town. The boozy shakes are insane. The seating situation however needs an overhaul, granted its a tiny spot. Just something to think about — don’t go at peak hours or you’ll be squished in and rushed out. Pre dinner rush and late dinners are best.

Went for a Sunday brunch and our experience was diminished by the fact that there were several staff members running very late — there was a bartender and a chef while we were there — stragglers started showing up and things got better. Due to the influx of customers and lack of staff, out burgers were cooked well beyond the requested medium rare. I am sure that the only reason they were even edible is because the meat had such a high fat content, the day was saved. Melted cheese on a nicely toasted brioche bun. Bacon is too thick and is not necessary.

Had heard a lot about this place so went there with family, including old parents(in their 80s). Food was surprisingly unexciting. My salmon was well-done(i.e., cardboard-y) when it was promised as medium-rare. The raw veg salad was too sour. The panna cotta was decent, though missing the fruit counterpoint. Service was classic, clueless«we don’t know how to deal with old people in Hipsterville» When we arrived, the hostess cheerily told us that she would only seat us, including the 80 year-old parents, once our entire party had arrived(the two remaining guests were two minutes away). She relented when I suggested she might want to make an exception for old people. She then pointed us to a very uncomfortable table which was basically benches and narrow stools. I am sure she would not seat her own grandparents on such precarious uncomfortable perches. Or maybe she would? When we pointed to an entire vacant area, we were told that it’s against«policy» to join tables together. The well-meaning waitress was quickly frustrated by the admittedly fussy above-mentioned parents. I saw her complaining to other staff about our table. The server had no idea who was supposed to get what. The restaurant added on a 20% tip to the check even though apparently it is no longer allowed in NYC. So not terrible, but neither an experience that makes you really want to go back. Even if you are tattooed, pomaded and moustachioed.

Went here for Thanksgiving Prix Fixe. Was very disappointed. They ran out of mashed potatoes. By 5pm. On Thanksgiving. Does that mean there was some tragic potato accident or did they just do a terrible job with prep? We picked DuMont because their only vegetarian option looked better than what other restaurants were offering. Turns out it didn’t matter because when we got there they had changed the veg option to something that seemed to be a lazy afterthought by the chef. It was basically a bowl of beans with two pieces of squash and cheese on top. So for $ 65 my partner got a salad, beans, and a piece of cake. Not exactly great value. DuMont is great for burgers, fries, and mac’n’cheese, but it is overpriced and average for everything else. Also the server wasn’t terribly on top of his game. He didn’t know about the menu substitution until we pointed it out. He brought soup with no spoon. My wife’s setting had no fork. And I asked for a drink menu after the meal and it never came. Guess they didn’t want any more of my money. I am happy to oblige.

We went to DuMont for Thanksgiving. My Niece lives in Williamnsburg and was alone for Thanksgiving studying so we tried something different. DuMont is in a cool old building and it is simple and cozy. We were seated in the front part or the bar area. There is also a covered patio area that is larger and they have heaters. Our server was great and attentive. The restaurant was very busy but we never felt rushed. DuMont had a Prix Fixe only menu for Thanksgiving so I can’t comment on their typical menu. The Thanksgiving food we had was very good for the most part. It was $ 65.00 pet head for 3 courses. I was born in NYC but have lived near Philadelphia my whole life so that was a bit of sticker shock. Williamnsburg is a trendy area and it was Thanksgiving. All in all, it was a nice experience.

Holy shitacular service batman! Three stars because I like the food for some reason. Guess it must have been good, since I can manage to put up with the visits to the table every 30 minutes. I even had time to write this review. To be fair, I have yet to receive my entrée but I don’t know how else to fill my time. I may take up crocheting — all we have is time Andy. * Update from the front lines: 30 minutes later, still waiting. May resort to an Alive scenario. * Yet another update. A star has dropped. Still waiting. Things are getting grim. * Holy jumping Jesus the food got here. Nice slapped together delivery. Looks like McDonald’s just found some competition. * An hour and a half later(not including the 30 minutes I waited past my reservation) my review of the food combined with the service and a weak ass beer list by BK standards gets this place to a solid 2 starts. Or as I call it a Jersey 5 star. * Disclaimer: before you say — well this guy is a douche bag holding them to an impossible standard. I ordered the cheese plate, got the charcuterie(which I never would have ordered since it was misspelled on the board. Yes, seriously) instead. Ordered bacon on my burger… No bacon. Ah well, that’s life. On the plus side I don’t have to come back here. * Oh, I’m starting a new timer for the check now… Don’t worry no update for that — clearly that won’t be a quick process.

$ 30 for a burger? Although delicious, having to pay for cheese a la carte hardly seems to be fair. The Mac and cheese is delicious but to spend nearly $ 40 for lunch just seems absurd, delicious or not. The party was delicious but too thick and messy. Flavor town, yes, easily edible, no. Just make sure to wash your hands immediately after eating… the meat juices stay soaked in your fingers for a whole day! Do what we did and order each a burger and share the Mac and cheese — by far the best I’ve had but too much cheese for just 1 person to consume…

We went back to DuMont on our last visit to New York and had a cheaper meal of burgers and beers. I’m updating to add a fifth star solely on account of the burger. We went as a party of four on a Sunday night, and we waited for a while at the bar before getting a table on the patio. Worth the wait, as I love that space, but it was rather longer than promised. Oh well. Service was otherwise fine. The drinks weren’t as good as they were on our last visit. I had a Michelada by some other name, and it was very spicy but not a standout. My husband got the Whiskey cocktail with Jameson, ginger syrup, lime juice, and iced tea. Decent enough, but pretty forgettable. We had IPAs with our beers, though I don’t remember what kind. The beer was fruitier than expected but went well with the burger. The DuMont Burger was one of the best I’ve had in the last few years. It was a thing of beauty with a juicy patty, Bibb lettuce, tomato, and pickles on a fluffy bun. I got mine topped with gruyère and thick sliced bacon. It was a hulking, simple cheeseburger with a perfect medium rare patty. The fries were also excellent, crispy and thin. I also got to try some sweet buttered corn and crispy baby artichokes, both great sides or starters if you want(unhealthy) vegetables on the table. I imagine we’ll be back to DuMont as it’s a nice default for my burger-loving husband and his burger-loving best man, who lives and hosts visitors in Williamsburg. I like to try new places when I travel, but I will occasionally add a favorite spot to my New York rotation. Thanks to that burger, I look forward to my next DuMont meal with great enthusiasm.

Ils servent a toute heure, bien pratique.

Yummaaaaay burger place with a cute outside garden in the back! My 2 friends and I stopped by for a late dinner post-Painting Lounge a few doors down. We were seated after a minimal wait despite having reservations(altho we were running a few minutes late). The outside garden is adorable and a perfect place to relax for the evening. The 3 of us all decided on the DuMont burger with a side of brussel sprouts to share. Umm, the portion on that burger is REDONKULOUSSSS. Our waiter actually forgot to bring out the sprouts but we think it’s because he knew there was absolutely no way we would be able to put a dent in that AND eat our burger platter. The burger was succelent, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. I chose the salad over the fries and was happy with my choice as a heaping portion of fresh greens was presented to me. Obviously I did sneak a few fries from my friend’s plate, which I found pretty good as well!

Wow what a hidden jewel in Williamsburg! You would never guess what a top notch restaurant this is from the outside or even after you walk in. After walking into Dumont, your first impression is, did I come to the right place? There were a couple of small tables and a bar with a very divey-bar feel. Then the hostess walks us to the back of the restaurant where we were seated in this magnificent outdoor space. Ok, now this makes sense. Wow what a cute restaurant! What I loved best about this restaurant was the right amount options for dinner. You are not overwhelmed with a large menu with bazillion choices. It had great options and just the right amount of selections. I started with half dozen of oysters that were very fresh. There were 4 types of oysters and I just mixed up my order to try each one. For my entrée, I ordered the duck, which was MAGNIFICENT. The portion was extremely generous and the duck was so meaty. The duck was served with baby bok choy and shiitake mushrooms. What a great pairing. My three most favorite things all in one plate. For sides, we ordered the Brussels spouts and corn and the corn was out of this world. I am usually not a fan of corn, but wow it was amazing.(Prob drenched with a stick of butter). The corn was very fresh and you could tell that it just came off the cob. I had the red sangria which was also very tasty. Unfortunately, we did not have room for dessert, but of course finished the evening with a great cup of coffee served in a personal French press. I went with 3 other people and all were delighted with their entrees. Oh …and the service was amazing too! The waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. Overall, this restaurant kicked ass and I can’t wait to go back!

DuMont deserves all the praise it gets. I first went here in 2008, and then again for a double date this past Saturday. Shame on me for not going often enough; it’s really so so good. Both times we sat outside in the backyard, with a warm fuzzy candlelit atmosphere and attentive service. I drank classic margaritas, which helped alleviate the humidity, although they sadly did not alleviate my hair’s reaction to the humidity. We started with market oysters; half were not that great, but the Kumamoto’s were nice. We also chose the special heirloom tomato salad with feta and watermelon. Honestly, I’m really spoiled when it comes to tomatoes, but I’ve had better, juicier heirloom tomato salads that I made myself. Not worth your time. Where DuMont really shines is the entrees. Nobody got the acclaimed burger because they have a separate restaurant for that now, but we all LOVED our choices. The girls got ricotta ravioli with peas, asparagus, and mushrooms. This was a perfectly dainty portion, and every bite was so flavorful. The boys got the bass special and the pork loin. The pork loin was just dripping with juices, and cooked so well. We really had an enjoyable date night, and it just serves as a reminder to myself to not wait another 5 years to come back to DuMont.

I’d been the DuMont Burger many times, so I finally had to see if DuMont was as good as everyone says it is. First of all, amazing backyard. Like, really really nice. Cocktails were okay, and the beer selection(though limited) was interesting enough. As for the burger… mine was overcooked(ordered medium rare, and was given a medium). It was still good though, but for some reason the first DuMont Burger I ever had at DuMont Burger still seems to be the best. Maybe I was just the right amount of drunk. The fries were pretty good, and you get a ton of them. But like another reviewer mentioned, the fries at Breslin are now my golden standard(no pun intended… okay, maybe a little bit intended). The Brussels sprouts are also worth getting. Though I didn’t get a chance to try their version of the DuMac and Cheese. I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ll come back though…

I came here for Valentine’s Day dinner. And as I’m writing this, I’m trying to remember what I had for dinner. Granted it was good, but not quite memorable. I love the ambiance of this place though. We got seated in their back garden area. It was beautiful, romantical and intimate. Great setting. I hear the roof disappears in the summer and opens up, which is cool. I’ll definitely be coming back as they say this place is great for burgers and beers. And also the mac & cheese. Ok, I believe I remember now: i had the fish and he had the filet mignon. they were both delicious, but nothing special. Well prepared, just not amazing. Good wine. Good service.

Pretty long wait for a Sunday brunch! We didn’t mind as we just gave the hostess our number and had a few drinks at Barcade, close by, In short: If pork is in your diet, DONOTLEAVE without getting the DuMac and Cheese. It won’t disappoint. A nice casual place to go if you’re not on a time limit. If you’re looking for reasonably priced, decent overall menu, and you’re in the area I’d definitely recommend this place. Don’t think I would go above and beyond, out of my way to eat here, but overall pretty good. 1) Butternut squash soup. I actually don’t really like soups that don’t have different textures, i.e. veggies/pasta/meat to make it so you need a spoon to eat the soup, but this was an exception! From my experience butternut squash soup is usually sweet, but this one was savory and really delicious. It had a thick and creamy consistency with some fried leeks on top which added really nice flavor and texture. Highly recommend this soup and very good for cold days. Although, one complaint, I don’t think the soup was hot enough, but I’m one of those people who like to almost burn my mouth drinking coffee/eating soups. 2) Our table shared the DuMac and Cheese. There is a reason why a lot of reviewers highly recommend this dish! It is really, really delicious. They use a blend of cheeses and this is the OPPOSITE of that crappy yellow kraft mac and cheese. I loved the crunch from the bread crumbs and the crispy bacon. I also like the type of noodle they use for the mac and cheese. I’m no pasta connoisseur, but it’s that type of short, stubby, full of crevices pasta noodle that holds melted cheese in each and every crevice. Might just be me, but it certainly helps keep the texture and the dissipation of cheese consistently delicious and cheesy for every bite. 3) I had the hanger steak and Brussels sprouts for my brunch entrée. Isn’t it amazing how many ways you can cut a potato and it be delicious every way? Isn’t it also amazing how much texture can influence the taste of food? That’s the way I felt about the potatoes I had with my brunch. Thinly sliced, layered on top of each other in a nicely cut square block. I really enjoy this approach to potatoes, the layers break apart in your mouth and each layer is seasoned well. I’m a ketchup fiend, and I didn’t even need ketchup. That says a lot! The hanger steak on the other hand was pretty tough and not well seasoned. It wasn’t horrible, but don’t think I would order it again. The Brussels sprouts were very good. Overall the entire dish came together quite well. The hanger steak was my least favorite part of this dish.

Dumont at first glance seems like a small café with a little bar, same as many other spots throughout the city. That is until they walk you through the hallway to the massive dining area in the back. It’s really gorgeous and bathed by skylight. It must be wonderful in the summer but I went in the winter and was very chilly despite the presence of large space heaters. I’ve tried both the bacon mac and cheese and their cheeseburger with fries, both were about $ 16 and both were incredible. Worth the price? That’s debateable. Most of the beers here were also a tad high at $ 7. The burger was cooked correctly and had a great grilled beef flavor, just like it should be. It was one of the better burger’s I’ve had in awhile. It wasn’t that big in diameter but it was thick and juicy(that IS what she said). It came with lettuce, onions, and pickles on the side. It also came with a huge mound of fries, very good fries but nothing quite unique about them. The mac and cheese was phenomenal. It came in a big ceramic dish and was nice and toasted on top and ultra cheesy inside. Instead of little bacon bits or something there were large meaty chunks of bacon. The pasta they use are a shape I’ve never seen before but it was perfect for holding onto the cheese. The portion was a really good size. If you don’t mind the prices being a tad high and come during a nice summer day this would be a wonderful date spot.

My friend and I decided to sit in the outdoor area(being that it was about 30 degrees outside, we were happy it was covered and heated). Still scenic, nonetheless. Dumont has all the basics with a bit of a twist. I needed an after-work beverage so I ordered the Harvest Moon(tito’s handmade vodka, aperol, lime, grapefruit, orange). Very light and citrusy. My friend and I split the DuMac and Cheese. Crunchy, melted cheese on top of heaps of macaroni with chunks of bacon. And I mean chunks. Not bits. I loved biting into every juicy piece. I had to get the infamous burger with white cheddar and bacon. Amazing burger. We ended with the apple crumble. Not too sweet, but still super satisfying.

I’ve been wanting to try DuMont for months now as I kept hearing how great the burgers and mac&cheese are. I went and ordered a DuMont burger with bacon and chedder cheese. It comes with fries or a salad, I asked if i could substitute for mac and cheese instead for an additional price. Apparently, I couldn’t ’cause its only available in a smaller portion if you order a DuMont burger… um im pretty sure I ordered a DuMont burger. i guess if i add cheese and bacon, it no longer qualifies as that. I didn’t let it bother me so i ordered mac and cheese seperate from it and it only comes in full portion for $ 15. i said sure, whatever. the burger i ordered medium well, of course it came out burnt. my mac and cheese looked like it belonged as a small side with my burger. for 15 $ on that mac and cheese, i would of expected much much more. everyone keeps raving about how great it is, it really isnt. its not bad but def not worth any of the hype it gets. the burgers were alright, ive had better — the onions they use are horrible but i guess some people prefer that. the fries that came with the burger are gross. you’ll love em if you like 5 guys fries. $ 55 later, its safe to say DuMont shall never see me again.

Reasons I love DuMont: buuuuuurgerrrr, creative cocktails, inventive menu, cute space, the little nook space off the bar, little garden, the people. I can even appreciate the fact that you can’t carry out so they can focus on the experience of peeps that dine in. Food happiness.

There is interesting décor here but very limited seating. A whole row seating was a big large bench against the wall and seats on the side. Parking was decent since it is not in Manhattan. Service was good but perhaps we overstayed Our welcome since we kept having to ask for water refills. The food was great though. The beet salad was nice and light has an appetizer. The dumont burger was Tasty as well with a side of fries. Definitely enough for a whole meal. The three pork tacos were filling for a medium eater. The mac & cheese was enough for two people most likely or very heavy eater! They had crusted cheese on top and each macaroni was covered with cheese. Whoa.

How do I even begin to describe probably some of the greatest mac & cheese I have ever eaten? I mean, this stuff was devastating and blew my mind. I dream about it. I have cold sweats like an addict that can’t get his fix as it’s been too long now since my last hit of gooey goodness. If there is one thing that DuMont does exceptionally well, it definitely is their mac & cheese. Thick soft pasta shells covered by layers of mouth watering different cheeses, pieces of thick bacon mixed in, and a crust that is crisp and browned on the outside with real breadcrumbs. Wow — that crust is the stuff of mac & cheese legend, and it’s the kind of thing that wars are fought over. I still stare at the picture I took of it. They give you so much on the plate it begs you to share, but I was having none of that! Yes, I am disturbed, I know, but I just can’t help myself. DuMont has ruined me for mac & cheese at any other place I go the rest of my life. I guess our group of four were extremely lucky the night we came here after a night drinking at nearby Barcade. Totally ravenous after a few hours of craft beer and video games we used the handy dandy Unilocal ap and saw the glowing reviews of this spot and decided to give it a whirl. As I walked in to put my name on the waiting list I was taken aback at how small the place looked. Little did I know that the front room with a bar and a few tables are just a ruse, as a wonderful dining area awaits in the back. After only about 15 minutes we were called in and led speakeasy-like through dimly lit corridors to a backyard patio garden area that is terrifically decorated and featured heat lamps all around. You feel as if you have left NY and are on vacation when sitting back here it is so nice. The service was attentive and pleasant enough and our food came out pretty quickly. The menu, though not huge, was diverse enough to please most palates with an eclectic selection of starters and main plates, plus a decent selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and sodas. If in the area it is definitely worth a visit if just for the amazing mac & cheese. If you are lactose intolerant it is worth the pain. Oh yes, I will most assuredly come back. I need my fix soon.
