First off: This is my espresso roast of choice, period, no exceptions. I use their beans at home and nab a cortado here when I’m in the neighborhood. Tons of room, although during the workday it’s eerily quiet save the nonstop keyboard clicking from dozens of laptop zombies. That said, if you’re not afraid to be the only people in the room talking, it’s a great place to meet up for a business meeting or a quick hello.(Just don’t talk shit if you’re in the film/tv industry, as Broadway stages is a couple blocks down and one of those silent typists may be a 2ndAD.) NOBUTSERIOUSLY, BESTESPRESSO.

I came in here because I was having a bad morning and the name was just so fitting I had to go. So glad I did! The guy behind the counter had great energy and after taking my order he looked at me and was like, «so…you doin ok?» And it immediately made me feel better. :) all the staff were very smiley and helpful! I got an almond croissant with some sort of awesome butter inside(apple butter??) and a fancy pour over coffee. Also noted, when I pointed at the croissant and said«what’s this thing.”(Brain was in non-function mode) He made no sarcastic remark that it was obviously a croissant and obviously labeled. He simply said it was«super tasty» and«probably a croissant». Most baristas make some sort of joke about it. I appreciated that he just said it was yummy and feigned ignorance too. There was a huge room in the back where I could sit on my laptop and peacefully work using the free wifi! Hurray! Wish I lived closer!

I have long been a patron of Café Grumpy – mainly the one near the East Broadway F stop and the one in Park Slope. I usually go mainly to buy their beans, but the experience has always been excellent – pourovers, cold brew, espresso – consistently great. I was in Greenpoint last weekend and HAD to go to their flagship location. I was pretty excited, and ordered one of their pourovers… which have always been terrific. It wasn’t. For whatever reason, Café Grumpy uses the«Kone» for its pourover… no filter, just stainless steel mesh, and it resulted in a shockingly bitter and gritty cup of coffee. On top of that, it tasted watery. For $ 4, I expected a lot better. I will not stop going to Café Grumpy. I will, however, buy their beans and brew them myself. I also won’t be going anywhere near their pourovers. Oy vey.

I could see myself doing work here… and that’s about it. Their cold brew left such a weird taste in my mouth. I usually take my iced coffee black but here I couldn’t do it. Needed milk to get rid of that off taste. I don’t think they’re known for their iced coffee because I was the only person drinking it. I think I should’ve gone for an espresso based drink. I will return here! But next time ordering something else. The Internet is fast and it’s a HUGE café. Is this the café brand that they used in Girls? They seem to have regulars and the baristas seem to know who they are and what they order which is always a good sign.

This is a great place to spread out and study for a while. It’s just some neighborhood people working at the long wooden tables in this unexpectedly large space. They serve some sophisticated coffees, but the food is nothing special.

Best coffee in the city. It feels like a standard New England college town coffee shop, and I mean that in the best possible way. Service isn’t what I’d call effusively upbeat but the barista usually starts pouring my regular order when she sees me walking in the door, and to me that’s pretty great. Beans are hilariously expensive for 12 oz but they’re also fantastic so I buy them anyway. If I had time to loiter in coffee shops during the day, this one would be my choice. Spacious and calm. The $ 3.50 plain donut is absurd but I guess someone must be buying them! Anyway, Grumpy is cool, if you appreciate properly roasted and brewed coffee and don’t expect your barista to dance a jig while she’s pulling your shot.

Decent atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon. Surprising quick service which not typical in Brooklyn. Good place to sit and do work, as there is lots of space. It’s a coffee shop so not much else to say. I’d like to try some of their more interesting drinks next time.

I was in Greenpoint for a gig and met my friend at Café Grumpy before heading over to my gig. I like the overall atmosphere of this coffee shop. There were a lot of people on their laptops working and it seemed like a chill type of coffee shop. The barista was pleasant – I got regular coffee(added almond milk and sugar) and my friend got an almond milk cappuccino. I like that they offer almond and soy milk here. The coffee is okay – it’s not my favorite, but it did the job. Overall, I really like the environment of this coffee shop and I would come back if i’m in the neighborhood. I think that it gets a lot of hype though because it was featured on ‘GIRLS’.

This café is appropriately named; the barista was very grumpy. If it was under any other title, I might be annoyed. I know people are supposed to be rude in New York or something, but this was a different kind of grumpy. So kuddos for fitting your name? Apart from the service, I think the logo is cute but the interior is drab. If grumpy is your thing, then make up for it with style. I think it could’ve been colored nicely with all sorts of shades of gray(just ask Drake, grays go), but instead it was boring and not well thought out. This is Brooklyn, you have to up your game. If you’re going with a theme, commit. I also judge a place HARD by its cold brew. Again, this is Brooklyn, I should rarely be let down in the place where iced coffee was reincarnated into cold brew. Sadly I was. Couldn’t finish it. Now I’m grumpy.

I’m lucky to live by Grumpy. Favorite coffee shop in almost every way: fresh beans for brewing at home, great espresso drinks, lots of room to sit.

This is my favorite coffee spot. You can find this Café Grumpy location in a quiet, calm neighborhood in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Parking is pretty easy as well(just watch out for alternate side parking). The coffee here is superb. You can get it in a to-go cup or a glass cup to stay(and refills are $ 1 and change). This spot is more preferable than others because of how spacious it is. There are a couple of tables in the front my the window but if you walk past the cashier, there are numerous large tables with ample seating. Definitely a great spot to use your laptop and do some work with some quiet coffeeshop music. There is free wifi as well(you can find the info in the front). If you order their macchiatos and expressos you can get a cute design on the top. Perfect for instagram if thats your thing. The pastries are good as well(I wouldn’t say amazing or the best) compared to other places. They do sell coffee beans and other«grumpy products» in the front as well. All-in-all, 5 stars from me for the atmosphere, quality coffee, and location. Baristas and employees here are very friendly as well.

Good spot for studying or looking for a quiet area to read. The back is a lot bigger than the front. Big tables which is a plus, music is bearable. I got a latte, nothing too unique for it being $ 5. Outlets are available but limited and free wifi!

Best place to come and do work while drinking a great pour over coffee There are spacious tables, powerpoints, wifi and the best cups of coffee I have found in New York. I spent a lot of time bumming about in coffee shops across the city and this place is by far my favorite. A bit intensely hipster but not unnerving. It is a bit of a walk to get here from the closest train station though.

This place was comfortable and spacious, but I wasn’t too impressed with anything else. The hot chocolate I got and the cappuccino my boyfriend got were nothing special. They tasted just about the same as at every other decent café or even a chain coffee place. We also got a biscotti to share, which could have been the saving grace of the place, but it seemed a old and little stale. What I really disliked about our visit was the attitude of the man at the counter. He was not friendly or nice at all when I was ordering for us or when I came back to try to order a second time to go before leaving. We did walk in at about an hour and a half before closing time, so giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he had just had a long and tiring day. Regardless, it didn’t leave a good impression on me. They do have wifi which would come in handy if I had gone alone, but since I was with someone, neither of us bothered to try signing in to see if it even works, so I can’t speak to that. All in all, I didn’t find anything spectacular that would make me interested in coming back, especially when there are many other cafés and coffee shops around the area I have yet to explore.

Other than its connection to «Girls», this place is not special. Cute space, baristas nice but not really paying attention when I spoke. I received the wrong beverage but didn’t have time to wait for a redo, and I also paid 3.50! for one tiny cinnamon sugar doughnut. But my cousin enjoyed her cappuccino and the place was very spacious and quiet. A nice spot if you want to stay a while and spend some money.

Great version of Café Grumpy, so spacious and good feeling in the space. Got a chai tea, always solid here. Robust enough that I can taste all the dark spices. We came super late, and the girl who was working gave us a free blueberry muffin and let us hang until she closed, super nice person! I will always dig this place.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Brooklyn! This is their ‘flagship’ location in Greenpoint. Excellent coffee and drinks as you’ve come to expect from all things Café Grumpy. Baristas are knowledgeable and friendly. They take credit card via Square which is convenient. They also have an assortment of pastries and baked goods if you have the munchies. What i really love about this space is that it is HUGE — very roomy with a seating areas in front and as well as in the back with high ceilings. Plenty of seating and tables for both individuals and groups. Outlets are spread out throughout for your convenience and free WiFi is fast. Great place to enjoy a great brew or espresso drink and get work done. Don’t forget to support your local business by continuing to order food and drink if you do decide to camp out for a bit. If I lived closer, I would be here all the time!

This is the perfect place to study, read, relax, reflect, etc… it. was a library coffee shop vibe… I have been going everyday for the past week and everyone that comes is very polite, are working or studying and are respectful of others(like they step outside to take a call even though its a café and they don’t have to). I don’t drink coffee so can’t speak to that! The pastries are yummy! I love the brownie, and the chocolate coconut macaroon. The blueberry hibiscus tea is nice and refreshing. I love hot chocolate… tried it. It was not rich in taste, something was deff missing… but it could just be that the person who made it needs more practice… It’s great for bike riders(like me).deff lots of space to park & lock your bike! ®

Having been obsessed with the HBO show Girls, I(like a loser) purchased a book of the Girls’ Guide to New York City and found myself at Café Grumpy of Greenpoint with my mother. I LOVED the ambiance of this adorable place! Hipsters and work-a-holics typing away on their Macs feverishly pounding down tiny cups of coffee. Café Grumpy has a rustic, almost vintage meets modern, artsy feel to it. There are plenty of interesting pieces of art hanging around. Best way I can describe this place is DARLING and cozy. After I got over the initial geeky shock that I was standing in the same place as Hannah and Ray *gasp* we proceeded to order. Quite honestly, I do not spend much time in coffee cafes, and I am used to the Starbucks scene. The baked treats all looked absolutely adorable and amazing. I was kind of confused about the coffee on the menu and asked the person working the counter for his suggestion and to explain some of the coffees. «I really dont know what to tell you, we don’t have the caramel and hazelnut frilly things you’re probably looking for, we serve coffee.» WOW Café Grumpy really lives up to its name, huh? I understand you live in Brooklyn, and near Williamsburg, so inherently your«thing» is to act like you’re too cool to care, but this is your JOB. Anyway, I settled on a latte and loved the decorative design on top of it! The barista changed his attitude towards the end… so we’re cool… I guess. I liked it.

A great cup of coffee(in my case a latte), and a very spacious room with plenty of seating, these are the simple things that make up a wonderful coffee house. Café Grumpy does not disappoint in these. I also favor the use of actual spoons vs disposable stirrers; it shows a consciousness for the environment.
