I love this show, this is one show that makes you say… that was cool. George

Cool venue for small events. I imagine roller skating here would be fun.

Been to so many late nite events at this space over the years, it’s not funny. Most recently I think I was at Halloween there last year. It was a r u b u l a d party, and damn was it fun. Secret ticket buying process, and all the wacky people you meet along the way. This is really a superb space and we’re lucky to have it.

Went here for a show knowing nothing of the venue. I just moved to the neighborhood and saw a show was playing here and nabbed tickets. Great venue, part of the charm is the roughness of it. The downstairs had nothing of a stage to speak of, and very little technically speaking(lights, sound, etc) but is an excellent place to watch a show where the performers care about their craft. But this is not only a performing arts venue! There’s co-working space(which I can’t comment on, just saw the sign, could even be downstairs where the theater is), a good coffee shop(I had an iced mocha before the show, anything hot and I’d probably have died!), and I think some batting cages from things that I’ve read??? All in all, a great venue for a number of different things!

The Brooklyn Lyceum is a wonderful and beautiful venue. Fantastically atmospheric, with its crumbling facades and echoing halls, it has an equally weird and wonderful programme of activities and entertainments lined up throughout the year. I spent most time there for the Come Out And Play Festival last year: days of adventure-packed silliness rippling out across Brooklyn with the Lyceum as its epicentre, with games and play crammed into every available space. I’ve also been back to use their batting cage(!) and am constantly tempted by the great things they host. The bar/café is cute and convenient, and if you’re looking to make it an evening out, you’re definitely not lacking in local options, with Mission Delores and Oaxaca just minutes away. Oh yes, and their chalkboard are an attraction in themselves. Great place — can’t wait to go back.

*Good coffee *Good munchies *Über chill baristas *Good seating — — - –Erratic seating(they move things around all the time, chairs and tables disappear and randomly appear –Weird director who runs around scowling at everyone. Not our fault you needed to add a café to pay your rent, smile buddy. –Weird festivals inside the café(sometimes this is a good thing) –Usual annoying Park Slope breeders and their offspring(but that’s true anywhere)

* for being directly outside of the Union St. Station * for good coffee * for $ 1 bagels * for the clever messages on the chalkboard outside * for when I stumbled upon the«Brooklyn Mutt Show» on a day when I was sad and really needed to see some puppies. Nice to have the Lyceum in the neighborhood, I look forward to seeing what other events this place comes up with in the future!

Go to the café regularly for my morning coffee on the way to work. Want to share some love for the café because it is the most affordable(and still good) coffee/breakfast to go place in the 4th ave and Union St. vicinity. They have good, strong coffee and even espresso I think. They have bagels, muffins and other breakfast food too. Today I got a medium coffee and a bagel with cream cheese for $ 4 even. Root Hill Café near by charges over $ 6 for the same thing and takes forever and Brownstone Bagels, while they have better bagels charge over $ 5 as well and don’t have a good coffee. Lyceum Café also offers a «frequent customer» card so you can get a free drink after buying 10. Love them.

Love the café and the exhibition space that comprise the Lyceum. Café: comfy and cozy! Large windows with great natural light framed by palm trees and other potted greenery. Good assortment of tables and seating. Fan of the comfy armchairs. Laptop and wi-fi friendly with a good amount of outlets. Café mocha one of the best I’ve ever had yet :). And it is warm! I will one day catch the café on a nutella crêpe-making day… Unfortunately, the café closes at 3pm and it is cash only. Venue: its rawness lends character. Pretty cavernous space on the bottom level that flexible, and has hosted events such as comedy stand-ups and the Brooklyn Mutt Show.

I would give the café & the people working there 4 stars. Nice selection and it’s super tempting to eat stuff fresh out of the oven. The location is nice in that it’s right by the train, but they really need to clean up the bathroom areas. The downstairs space is really nice for meeting.

Great coffee, the Intelligentsia espresso makes me want to head there every day. Café starts at 7am weekdays! The Brooklyn Lyceum has a wonderful staff, cool barristas and fancy bakers. Plays, Movies, Jazz, Flea markets, Comic Conventions, Sci Fi conventions, Breakdance-BBoy(Girl) competitions, Craft fairs, weddings, aerialists, hunts, game days, Robot Expos, comedy nights, birthday parties, bating cage, on tap beer, local restaurants with samples, open mike nights, Julliard trained orchestras [ ], opera, Ted Danson filming Bored to Death and chess tournaments and that is just in the last 17 months that I started going there. Its a bare brick space with two giant open areas and two small rooms, Free wi-fi and though cash only, atms are on the corner and across the street. The café has a comfortable space to crash and work talk or relax with books and records(yes vinyl) in the space. Oh and they are football addicts and do the Superbowl on their movie screen(Not for me) Unfortunately this is still a work in progress and the top floor while a giant space is unheated except for those palm type heaters which are adequate for an audience but hellish for performers on a cold night. A Park Slope destination for those who knows.

The Lyceum is an interesting, quiet, largely underutilized space. For daytime light far including good coffee and friendly, it’s a good option. The enclosed patio-like space is sunny, partitioned, and uncrowded. I hope to bring a board game group there someday. Wow, Brian D. what a downer! Yes the Lyceum as a space is a fixer-upper. Old buildings are ridiculously expensive to fix – for-profit businesses have trouble with this, so I don’t expect Lyceum to be plowing a lot of money into the masonry at any fast pace. I do hope a local angel invests there someday, but this is the frontier edge of trendy Park Slope and these things take time.

Ok, so after my unfortunate fair experience at Textile Arts Center, I walked over to the Lyceum for their craft fair. First, I liked the fact that the kombucha stand was close the front of the stairs, along with the chocolate/truffle vendor. So, I started out by getting myself a cup of mulled kombucha and a piece of chocolate. Then, I wandered around the downstairs and looked at about 30 vendors. Although I did not find the tote bag or the gloves that I went looking for, I liked the number of vendors and the quality of the crafts. Everyone vending was very friendly/welcoming and I will probably go back next year. One note: the upstairs café ran out of almost everything to eat, so if people visiting want to get food/lunch/dinner, better come early!

Don’t expect some high end ultra decorated café. What you can expect, is good coffee, great munchies, and a great place to sit down and read, catch up with a friend, or work. I love that the employees know their way around coffee, and really are helpful. Good cheap coffee, and a quiet atmosphere is what you’ll get here. Don’t expect a bunch of hype!

Fifteen or so years ago I lived in Park Slope before the great gentrification. My daily commute had me walking right by the old Bathhouse on Union Street and back then it was boarded up, part of an institution long gone and I often wondered how long it would be before the building would either be torn down or renovated. A few weeks ago, I attended the Spring Food and Craft Market and got my answer. The front of the building has been changed very little. Some signage has been added, but the grand arches, the detailed moldings and staircase are all intact. The interior is another matter however. The interior has been mostly ripped out, leaving bare walls, rudimentary doors(or in some cases, makeshift frames with door like things on them) and a lot of open space. There is a wonderful feeling of history here. As someone who lived in Park Slope during the time when it was between«bad» and«amazing» it was nice to straddle that ethereal line in this building. Truth be told, this review is intended to be more of a «3.5 stars» but it suffers because of the lack of air conditioning(it was REALLY hot and icky that day in some parts of the building). Also, the bathroom facilities need a bit of work. You can’t tell if anyone is in a stall half the time and I thought the doors were going to fall off the hinges. Nice sink area though. I think this place is in its infancy and I wouldn’t be surprised if I go back in time and find them steadily making it better and better.

Came here to check out the Spring Food and Craft Market. Checked in at the Unilocal!desk and got my first Unilocal!pin and shot glass – whoo hoo! Three floors of food vendors and interesting/fun craft items. Food: bacon marmalade, bacon brownie, homemade kimchi tasty fresh salsa, fresh ice cream. Craft vendors: artisan soap, clay figures, handmade jewelry. Had a great time checking out all the vendors.

Rumor was that this old bathhouse currently has a batting cage here and that has been confirmed to be on the second floor as I spotted where the net is hanging from. I came here for the Sping Food and Craft Market and to my delight, there were so many cool and different little shops offering everyone a taste of their culinary creations from bacon marmelade, toffee ice cream, to home made kimchi. Awesome venue.

Saw the independent movie«Apostles of Brooklyn» here and never knew this old bathhouse converted into a theater existed. It was a little drafty and creeky, but served its purpose well. They served 40’s of Sol, but i got the display one which was warm. I liked this place alot and think its very Brooklyn.

Attended the New Yorker Magazine Festival here, where we saw«Girl with a Torch: A Conversation with Fiona Apple». Granted, Fiona that evening was a bit, how should I say it, oh yeah… WIRED. But talking about Fiona can take all day, and believe me I have talked about Fiona Apple for hours on end. I’m here to review the Brooklyn Lyceum. The theatre is really an open space, as you can see from the picture. There is a balcony/loft upstairs where there are art exhibits, additional seating for shows, and whatnot. The floor itself is huge, where anything really can be installed or shown or played. Its quite a beautiful place.
