While the food is great, the employees and high prices are enough to keep me away. Around this place are many deli’s that can get you the same food(tasting better) for a whole lot cheaper. I keep coming back every now, and then to see if anything’s changed. Nope.

Lox were not fresh at all and they put a dab of cream cheese on only one half of the bagel. Good bagel though.

Bagel quality is top notch. Service is a bit slow, but not terrible or anything. Not sure about all the negative reviews, but my experience was pretty good. Good bagels don’t need to be toasted. I was told this once by a bagel expert at a well-known bagel establishment in the East Village(yes, the one that goes by the same name as that park across the street). I did not get my bagel toasted at Bergen Bagels, and it was very VERY good. It had the perfect fluffy to chewy ratio and a slightly crisp crust every good bagel should have. I ordered the classic everything with plain cream cheese– excellent choice. I stopped by on a Sunday around noon and there were a few tables filled and no line. By the time I had left a line started building up. Not overly crowded in anyway. The guy at the register was taking his time finishing up a task before ringing me up. I guess he could have been more attentive, but hey, its Sunday.

I like some of the employees here. The bagels are good. When I ask for a coffee little milk, I get almost half milk.(Blah) Only one guy there that listens to me. The negative is the lady cashier. Why does she have such an attitude? So unnecessary! Update: Kendall is back(just found out his name today). I haven’t seen him in the morning, sadly. He is the one that reminds me of Wyclef John. Lol. He was always so efficient and quick and ALWAYS made my coffee perfect. I think Bergen Bagels should be so proud to have a wonderful employee like him. Changed my rating bc the new girl at the register is really nice. If I was an employer or was a boss or owner of a business, I would be so happy to have Kendall working for me or even have him as a coworker– always so pleasantly mannered, quick, holds up his ear to make sure he has my order right. And this is just a food service industry– imagine other places of business — he would be a wonderful asset!

My experiences at Bergen bagels have always been delightful. Their bagels are so fresh and tasty it’s just a pleasure to bite into them. The added selection/assortment/collection of cream cheese adds so much freedom to each order. I gotta say in definitely more of a sweet Bagel person so when I tried the savory cream cheeses I was quite disappointed. With that being said, the sweet flavors were amazing. The cashier does have an attitude and that’s the worst thing to have in the morning but one of the servers(I havent been able to see his nametag) is an absolute delight. Love to keep starting my days with Bergen bagels :)

Sadly after 15 years of business almost every weekend it’s time to go somewhere else. 90 minutes for delivery is unacceptable. 3 calls and not so much as an ‘I’m sorry’ let alone consideration on the bill. You ask for my number… why no call. You said 45 minutes. No apology. With 3 other bagel stores in the area you should up your game or I’m sure I won’t be the last to never come back.

Bergen Bagels — always there for you when you need them… When its breakfast time and you’re starvin’ — uhh, hello — Bagels! When its lunch time and you’re still starvin’ — sandwiches, salads made to order + a case full of Snapple’s and Vitamin Waters, etc When it’s only 3pm and the day won’t end and you need a little something to get you through til 5 — Half. Moon. Cookies!(Best in BK!) And apparently they’re open until 7pm so I suppose if you’re craving a little breakfast-for-dinner they’ve got you covered there. So glad that I can count on these guys at all times of the day. Yay for Bergen Bagels!

This bagel shop can’t seem to get it right. They consistently mess up my order every time I go there. How hard is it to get a bagel with bacon, egg, and cheddar? Yesterday morning I got there at 6:45am with one other guy who had already ordered. I stood for five minutes without any of the two people behind the counter stating«good morning», «what would you like», or «we’ll be right with you.» In my frustration I left and vowed never to go back because it’s clear they don’t care about helping their customers. If you’re really craving a bagel I suggest walking a couple of blocks to Myrtle Bagel.

Oh, I how I pine for NY bagels at home(Philadelphia.) My friends live around the corner, so Bergen Bagels is frequently our go-to quick breakfast when I am visiting them. This time, I ordered an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese(uninspired order? maybe. reliably delicious when I am overwhelmed with options? yes) The last time I was here, I mistakenly did not mention I wanted my bagel toasted, so I made sure to note that this time. It wasn’t a big deal, and after a long wait, my bagel wasn’t that hot/toasty anyway. There are so many intriguing options — avocado cream cheese, feta/pesto cream cheese, pumpernickel bagels, seven grain bagels. TOOMANYCHOICES. Anyway, the service is slow and jumbled — but I got my food without problem. Some other people in my party had to wait 10+ minutes for a bagel. While waiting in line, it felt like there would be 5+ minute stretches where no one’s order was taken. Slow service aside, these bagels are delicious. Salty & bread-y things are my ideal food.

Worst service ever! I ordered before 9am this morning and was told my delivery would be at my house within 45 minutes. Over an hour and a half later, my food arrives minus my iced black coffee(which I paid for). I have been waiting for 35 minutes for them to return my money for something they did not deliver. They have zero customer service skills and when bagels arrive that late, they are gross! I will never ever order from this place again. Terrible! I would give zero stars if I could.

This place just drives me totally and completely insane whenever I’m here. I deleted a previous review to give them another chance. But, man, I can’t get over the way this place is run. Incredibly slow service, for not that amazing a product. It would benefit management to spend some time watching the customer flow, and figuring out better ways of doing things. 1) You can literally wait 10 minutes at the front of the line before anyone will acknowledge your presence. No, «Hey there», no «Welcome» no, «Be with you in just a moment.» No eye contact. Nothing. This happens routinely. I always have to suppress the urge to just walk out. Is that the type of feeling you want your customers to have? 2) They consistently get the order wrong, despite my repeating it three times. If you can’t remember it, write it down. In fact, it would benefit all to have notepads. The time before this they forgot the order completely, leaving me waiting, and making me have the cashier twice check on it — backing her up, and making me feel like an ass. 3) The salad station is right in front of where people order. The spit-glass doesn’t go nearly as high as it should. In other words, people are spit-talking all over the ingredients. Make the glass higher, or cover the vegetables. Health department alert. 4) Is anyone happy to work here? Anyone? Such misery on everyone’s faces. 5) It’s not really routine to pay when you get to the end of the line. You mostly wait until the person making your order is done with your order. So, you wait in line to place your order, wait as it’s made, then wait again to pay even after your order has been completed. Why can’t I pay while the order is being made? I can? Why is the cashier walking away? 6) Lite-FM on the radio? Can it not be the year 1985 in here? This place needs much better organization. It can take 30 minutes from start to end and will stress you out in the process.

After waiting 20 mins for anyone to ask for my order, and another 5 mins for my bagel, I was charged 9 dollars for a bagel with avocado, cream cheese and turkey. I would be okay with the steep price of the bagel if it was well made and good produce but that was not the case. The bagel was sliced so thinly only half of the bottom slice was there? And then the top was too thick to get a solid bit. The avocado was very under ripe & there was cream cheese all over the bagel. It seemed like they were training new people, which I understand, but they need to be a little more competent in dealing with customers in a timely manner. Probably won’t be returning here anytime soon

Got the whole wheat everything toasted with cream cheese and lox. The bagel sandwich turned out to be a very daunting size but with the help of another I finished it for my morning’s meal, :-)

I come here every Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes visiting a few times within those days. I get bagels and coffee in the mornings and come back for more coffee later in the day. I just walked in and asked for a small iced coffee and they told me they were closed. Are you tucking kidding me?! You’re NOT closed because according to the website AND your doors being wide open you don’t close until 8pm. That REALLY left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a small iced coffee. COMEON.

I was in the neighborhood early Monday morning like 6am ughhhhh. And not being around in a long time passed by here and decided to stop in. My bagel experience over the years has been a roller coaster ride. I have eaten bagels when you could get a bakers dozen for a dollar so you can say I have some experience. Ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel and it was not tasting anywhere near cinnamon raisin at all wtf!!! It was barely toasted. Has quality gotten that bad in the bagel industry. The coffee was alright and the total was $ 3 dollars but the cinnamon raisin was weak like it tasted strange no where near any cinnamon or even raisins. Sad really sad.

I’ve lived in the area for over 10 years and have ordered bagels from all three Bergen locations — so I’m familiar with this business. I have had huge problems with this particular location, which is a complaint about the service more than the food. The bagels and the cream cheese selection are decent, not the best in new york, but certainly not bad. OK, for that I would have given 3 or 4 stars. Problem is that every time I have come in here, literally over 10 times since it opened, something has been wrong with my order. I order the same thing every time, and each time, one or more ingredients was missing. The guys behind the counter also are really sloppy with putting the sandwiches together — like, all the salmon is on one side and whole pieces of the bagel are missing cream cheese. I get cucumber slices that are about ½-inch thick, and lopsided, because they don’t don’t know how to dice well. OK if it were a 4 dollar bagel, but for 10 bucks? Hell no. Slicing and placement of the ingredients is a huge part of what you’re paying for. The last time I was there I ordered a bagel, I was sitting at the counter eating it, and the guy who prepared it(keep in mind they don’t wear gloves) came outside, smoked a cigarette, and stuck his hand down his pants(under the jeans) to scratch himself. Right in front of the customer window. This grossed me out to the point of no return.

The bagels are a good circular size with a lot of dough in depth. Soft like it was made fresh and they give a good amount of spread. I ordered the lox cream cheese spread on an everything bagel. Service can be slow as probably not a good time to come during rush hour in the morning. There is not a lot of seating so this is mainly a grab and go place. You’ll be lucky if you get a counter seat by the window. They have a bunch of items on their menu and an ample amount of spreads. The list on the chalk board is literally skies the limit. They also can make custom salads. Great place to go if you want something quick and to your specific liking.

Great place for a quick lunch stop. Lots of different sandwiches to choose from and as you might image from the name, everything can be served on bagels. They have a great selection of sides and spreads and for those who like chips at lunch, they carry Deep River brand Salt & Vinegar, which are in my opinion the best S&V chips. I had the Reuben with mustard on a poppy seed bagel. I though the sandwich was going be kind of small on account of the size of the bagel, but they pile in the meat and sauerkraut and other fixins to make up for it. I was fully satisfied with the portion. Would come again!
