I’ve been coming here for Chinese take-out for 6 years on and off as my Mom lives in the neighborhood. The lunch specials are a steal. Same goes for combo plate pricing for dinner. It’s a tiny hole in the wall joint so if aesthetics skeeve you out — fair warning. But even my germ-o-phobe Mom got over that. I haven’t personally picked up Kim’s for take-out in well over a year. My Mom called the order in last night and I was visiting so dropped by on my way to her house. I’m waiting in the line of customers(this is a popular spot in the neighborhood!!!) and she sees me and grabs my order and says«You — your Mother called and paid for. Here you go.» Years later and she remembers me. Or she knows her regular customers of which I’m not. Either way — thank you very much. Next time I’ll give the sushi a try.

This isn’t my go to chinese food restaurant in the area, but I change things up and order from here every now and then. Food is decent… and as a few people have said already, the Lobster Egg Roll is pretty delicious. They do have sushi and it’s not all that bad, however, I recommend mostly just sticking with the chinese and only ordering the sushi as a side… Their chinese food is the star and there are much better options for sushi in the immediate area. I wanted to give this place 4 stars, but I have had one big issue with them… delivery time. It’s not always bad, but we’ve had some really long waits on occasion(1 – 1.5 hours) even during non busy times. And we live like 2 minutes away from the place… I guess we should learn our lesson and just go pick it up. **April Underdog Challenge Day 5**

I have to be honest and say that as much as this sushi is fresh, it’s terribly prepared. The rice is all wrong and there’s way too much of it. The fish itself IS very fresh, which is GREAT — but covering it up with double the usual amount of poorly-made sushi rice is missing the entire point of sushi. This is true whether you order rolls or nigiri — but the nigiri is especially disappointing. I ordered two pieces nigiri sushi and each consisted of a huge chunk of rice topped with an awkward slab of fish. Kim clearly has no training when it comes to the actual slicing, though I suppose you could say it gives you more for your money in terms of the amount of food you get. If all you’re looking for are california rolls or specialty rolls with tons of rice, eel sauce, spicy mayo, etc, you will be pleased with this place as the fish is good and the prices more than reasonable. If you’re a real sushi aficionado who prefers nigiri, sashimi, or a mix with rolls, you’ll be unimpressed.

Who would have thought that an excellent December day would encompass sushi and a semi-picnic in Edgewater Park? I heard about this place and was rather skeptical, after a take-out sushi disaster in Brooklyn, I was afraid to try take-out sushi again. But then, I figured, Brooklyn was not the Bronx and that I should open my mind up to further options. Enter Kim’s Chinese and Sushi. The owner, I assume, was helping out her son with something, who was making friendly conversation with a customer: Boy: Are you a good boy? Man: Yes, I am a good boy. Boy: Why? Man: That’s a good question. Boy: Is it for your girlfriend? Man: No. Boy: I have a girlfriend! Mind you, the boy is roughly five. Anyway, I was watching the owner make the sushi while this conversation went down. I noticed, immediately, that the rolls were HUGE. In comparison to Teriyaki Boy and Fresh Tortillas over on Willamsbridge, they were deliciously filling. In addition, the ingredients were very fresh, you could taste each ingredient individually while still enjoying the harmony of sushi. Plus, their soy sauce is really good. Maybe it’s because of the heaping quantity provided. The prices will make your heart smile. I will definitely be returning!
