David’s Soul Food Cafe

So I finally ordered from here and disappointed doesn’t quite describe what I’m feeling. The food had ZERO seasoning. Since this is a soul food place, I expected some salt, at the very least on my mac and cheese and whiting, but there was nothing to be found. To top it off, the whiting was not fresh and probably has been sitting in a freezer for a bit. I will NEVER order from here again.

I ordered BBQ chicken, collard greens, and rice. I couldn’t even finish my food BC it was so disgusting.

I would of never thought by the look of this place that the food is so good. The ribs, green beans, Mac and cheese, and the oxtail are lol delicious. I like that they are not cheap with the servings. Great soul food!

Smh not only did I have to wait for the wrong order. The deliver guy was holding my food like it was a dam soda. Now my bag is filled with sauce, juice filled with sauce and the juice was super hot. Gotta do better people I’m very disappointed. Very!!! I wish I could give negative stars.

Pretty good food. It was amazing. I ordered the smothered chicken with rice beans and mac and cheese. It was all piping hot and tasted really good. I will def. order from here again.

I found them via GrubHub. We ordered the Oxtail and BBQ ribs with sides of mac and cheese, rice/​beans and collard greens. And It was horrible! Maybe it was the heat, but the food just didn’t taste right. The only good thing about ordering was that the food was delivered really fast.
I’m hoping we just ordered a bad batch, but I probably won’t be ordering from this place again.

What can I say this place is a hidden gem. I always knew this place as a Jamaican food store but maybe it changed.
I just ordered mac/​cheese, fried chicken, and sweet yams and wow amazing!
delivery was fast and I’m definitely ordering from here again.

The food is good (greasier than Cea-Lo’s. but still tasty) unfortunately the customer service and delivery was poor, so I won’t be back. 90+ minutes for two orders of fried chicken with two sides and a slice of cake? Many items listed are unavailable and although the person that works there called to let me know they don’t have it (thank goodness I didn’t pay with card) I had to ask THEM what other options they had. Then, I had to call back because I could hear her getting my order wrong, she said something about a medium and a large when I know I ordered two medium meals. She seemed to be annoyed which definitely made me irritated so I already was on the edge when 90 minutes passed by and my food still hadn’t arrived, even though during my call with the person at the restaurant she said it was already made. Put it this way, it took me LESS time to call Cea-Lo’s and place an order for pickup, get dressed and catch the bus to go get it and bring it back to my house than it did for David’s/New Soul to deliver. I won’t be giving them my business again. Great fried chicken (when you can get it) though!

I ordered through GrubHub just a couple of hours ago, but on there the place is called David’s Soulfood Café.
The fried chicken was great, the sides were great sized portioned and were very good, I loved the red velvet cake.
The priced are very reasonable for soul food and the food came less than the delivery time. I’m super happy with my order and I’ll be ordering from there again in the near future to get my soul food fix.

I ordered here from Grubhub really excited for my meal. I ordered the jerk shrimp with string beans and candied yams. Candied yams ended up not being available along with pretty much everything else listed. Thankfully, someone called swiftly and my order came in a timely manner. Unfortunately, that isn’t the point of this review. The jerk shrimp literally was COVERED AND DROWNED in seasoning. The vegetables had no flavor and the shrimp literally was uneatable. It was just terrible. I had some of the vegetables that weren’t also drowned in seasoning and had to throw it out. Such a disappointment!

Food was good but it seemed ghetto and it took an hour for me to get my food and the prices are kind of high and when I got my food it was kind of like thrown all over the place… don’t think I’ll be going back here

I ordered the Fried Chicken, potato salad and mixed veggies. I had one bite of the potato salad and realized it was all lard/​mayonnaise and threw it away. The mixed veggies were steamed as expected. The fried chicken was normal fried chicken: nothing special (Large = 2 thighs, 1 leg). I’d prefer a Popeyes/​LA Chicken/Church’s anyday, it’d have better sides and be cheaper. My meal was $ 11 + tax/​tip, delivery.
It is unlikely that I order from here again, but if I did, I would try something else.

This Place Is a hidden treasure! I happend to come across The New Soul Café by accident and decided to stop in for some REAL soul food! The décor is just about nonexistant but boy the food is amazing! I had the Beef Ribs with brown rice and the yams like no other yam I have tasted before sweet enough to to taste the flavor with just a hint of cinnamon 2 words Best Ever. I am looking forward to the Turkey wing mentioned on the menu (thursday).David the owner/​chef is very nice and sincere. If you are in the Bronx or just passing through or if you just appreciate some good «real soul» food take the trip out to this place.

Very good soul food with a decent size selection. For those who don’t want to travel to Johnson’s or want a wider selection. Call before you go though, seems to close early/​run out of food at times.
