Love Hind and Fore! High quality meat, poultry and deli meats, an excellent selection of international sausages and burger blends, with a healthy smattering of shrimp, breads, fresh veg, pasta (spaetzle!) and immense (seasonal) basil and tomato plants, among many other handy little sundries and necessities. I order my turkey and corned beef there every year, and stock the freezer with my favorites from their weekly specials. The customer service is beyond excellent; the staff friendly, helpful and well informed. Just like my Italian grandmother, I love going to my «neighborhood» butcher!

My family has eaten meat from this store for a long time, it’s all great stuff here, try anything.

The best meat your going to find. The beef is prime, real prime. Yes it’s expensive, but go to Wolfgangs in Somerville for a prime steak, and then H&F seems cheap. Try their chicken and pork, it’s significally better then what you get at the supermarket. Ever what the documentary Food, Inc? You’ll never eat supermarket chicken again, and maybe beef. Better sourced, better meat. On top of all, they’ll cut it anyway you need, and offer advise! Customer service– what a concept. Their frozen food is great also, as is their seafood when they have it. Quality does cost more. If you have the funds to go for the best, this is it, Or for the special occasion. They have weekly and freezer specials, a good way to stock up at a discount.

The best of the best. The short rib, brisket burger mix is to die for. I picked up marrow bones to try out a bone marrow recipe and it was over the top crazy good! The selection and freshness are amazing and worth the trip. The only complaint I have is that I wish they had at least one late night during the week!

This is a fantastic vendor. I hesitate to call them a butcher shop because they really do a bit more, offering seafood, fowl and various sundries, eg. Pastas, sauce, frozen pizza, soups, pot pies, and even big-​ass Jersey tomatoes. I suspect that many folks won’t recognize what a real butcher does, because they are so rare. Ask the old man behind the counter to explain the finer points of pork cutlets and then watch as he cuts, pounds, and then carefully stacks them with paper divides. The porterhouse is cut to order, and will make you glad you walked past the butcher at Wegman’s. Don’t hesitate to try the homemade hot dogs. My fave are the jalapeño & cheddar. It’s better than it sounds.

This is the butcher you remember from your childhood, only without the thumb on the scale. I’ve been going here for years, for my daily needs and for vacation meat orders, and I’ve never been disappointed. Great quality meats, butchered to order. Ed and his crew of MD’s (meat doctors) will butcher your meats to order with surgical precision. If you can’t get what you want here, it’s because you’re not asking or it doesn’t exist. Highly recommended.

Hind and Fore is the real deal. If you like high quality meat, there is no place better in Central jersey. And in terms of cost, you get what you pay for. I had their 60 day dry-​aged porterhouse last month, it was one of the best steaks i have ever had. This is a mom and pop shop that will take the time to answer your questions and get you exactly what you need. Highly recommended for all of the home chefs and grilling enthusiasts.

Highest quality meats, all sourced from local farms. Good guys that know their meat and how to enjoy it. Had a great Flap steak this weekend (was on special). Didn’t need any marinade — not needed with meat of this quality. Price is expensive for meat but not compared to going out.

So it’s been a while due to some unfortunate and unforeseen things, but here goes. Hope I still have it in me! :)
Been here a few times with friends, unfortunately can’t comment on the quality first hand (y’know, being the vegetarian and stuff), but I’ve always heard rave reviews from the other folks about the freshness and quality of the meat. Overall, it’s a small place, run by some pretty knowledgeable folks, and they really pride in their business, which clearly comes through in their work.
As far as pricing goes, it’s definitely one of the priciest places around, but then again, quality rarely comes cheap! If you’re looking for good meat or other related items and aren’t shy with your wallet for stuff that’s absolutely worth it, give them a try!

i give them the five stars because they’re the absolute real deal. i use their meats for competition cooking and for special occasions. they deal exclusively USDA Prime beef. basically, the top shelf stuff, and the butchers are good guys who will answer all of your questions about the product and even give tips on cooking it to impress.
practically speaking, they’re more of a 3 star for me, since the difference in price is a little too hard to reconcile for common folk like me to get there often, but to be fair they do run specials that make it a lot easier to splurge.
make sure to «like» them on facebook. they keep you informed on butcher related stuff and on promotions you may want in on!

Great place. Walked in and started asking about sandwiches and someone pokes his head out from the back and say hey what about the Roast Beef… just came outa the oven. Well sure yes Roast Beef sandwich sounds fantastic. Couple minutes later hey how about we put some peppers, onions and mushrooms on it… I just grilled some up. Great put them on it. In short great sandwich!
I also picked up some Swedish Potato sausage outstanding. Just asked you go int old school real deal joint. They love food and it shows!

This is the place to get good fresh meat in this area. I recommend almost everything especially their pork cutlets, baby ribs, and brats. They are worth the price. I also love their spicy Italian sausages.

H&F are outstanding butchers who have always been able handle my special requests. I never leave with just what I ordered either– they have a great selection of dried meats and sausages and assorted sauces, bones, etc. Great quality does not come cheaply but for special occasions thinks the only place in the area we will use (and we drive 30 minutes t get there!).

I went to this place to get butchered meat… The place is quite expensive for what you get and I didn’t find the quality that great unfortunately. I went back several times to really try to like them, but I wasn’t impressed with their products and prices. So unfortunately I don’t go back.
Its a small place that makes you want to give them your business b/​c its like the old mom and pop butchers but the prices and quality aren’t worth me going back. I wasn’t happy writ ting this two star review, I feel bad for them but being honest hopefully helps them improve.
I tried some of their frozen products too, didn’t like them…
Some friends and family say they used to special order items with them but no longer b/​c of their prices, I really do hope to see them in business and I will consider trying them again in a year or so… I hope to come back with a 4 star or better for them.
