We hired J’s BBQ to cater our rehearsal dinner at the recommendation of a local. They definitely impressed us! The description we were given was«the best and cheapest BBQ in town, in basically a shack on the side of the road». Like tamales, I kind of believe the best BBQ comes from shacks, not from high-gloss places. We eventually managed to get in touch(they’re only open on weekends), and they were available to cater. They gave us a rate of about $ 9 pp, which included tax, delivery/service, 2 meats, 3 sides, tea, bread, onions, jalepenos, BBQ sauce, and all the fixings. We chose brisket, sausage, twice baked potatoes, green beans, and cole slaw and it was all… perfect! It was exactly what we wanted to serve our out of town guests. The brisket was so moist and melted in your mouth. The cole slaw was peppery and light and highly complimented. My favorite side was the twice baked potato salad. It was really more like potatoes au gratin or a hot potato salad/casserole — creamy, cheesy, and delicious. Also, they brought a variety of breads from white to wheat. They delivered and helped set up the BBQ for us and sent people to the venue the next day to pick things up that were left(like drink containers and such). What you have to remember about this place if you want to book them is that they are incredibly laid back and on the casual side. We were given a cell phone number after we finally got in touch and that solved our communication issues. We gave them a final count about a day or two in advance(by the way, we had a TON of leftovers). They fit perfectly into the backyard BBQ vibe that we were shooting for and the food was delicious. Rumor has it that they have sold, so who knows what will happen to the food in the future, but they were exactly what we needed!

This is a 4 star place but it’s only open on the weekends so I was tempted to dock them but seeing as this is their first review I’ll let it slide. I drive past this place every week on my way to Austin, problem is I travel for work during the week. Finally I had a weekend trip during their business hours and got to try them out. It was a quick visit, just a rib and brisket. It was really good and the prices were right. Great smokey flavor and tenderness on the brisket. Would love to come back. I like that the old school vending machine worked. Stop in if you are driving by.
