Decent beer and happy hour specials, but… my wings came out severely undercooked, the calamari was undercooked, limp, and wet(gross). Then we ordered pretzel bites and the forgot them. When we reminded them and they came out, the dip had a skin over it as if it was sitting since we ordered it(not appetizing). We ordered the nachos next and they were only mediocre at best. We were meeting locals and watching a game, so we stayed. Bottom Line is I had much higher expectations.

My husband is a Denver boy so when we went here in late May & ran into a blizzard I was scared to death. He finally turned around. We ended up here & had a great time! I wanted a «Makes You Wait to Bugle«TShirt but they were out. Bummer! We had a great time!

Wow! Chorizo corito pretzal bites! Epic! Italian small pizza. amazing crust and sauce. Loaded mashed potato balls… epic flavor! We are hard to impress coming from the east coast… and the quality of the ingrediants here speak volumes. The old elk brown was a perfect brown, the devils thumb a rockin nitro and the 1123 ipa… well its piney and a solemn finish. Sub zero winter ale is also excellent in finish and shape. Wow.great spot for visitors and locals. You come to colorado for the flavor and in boulder walnut delivers!

Some of my favorite craft beer I have ever tried. We tried two flights of all they had on tap and we liked every single one! Also can’t beat the price-6 for $ 6! Highly recommend. They also fill their growlers for $ 6 on Wednesdays.

Great price for a good 11oz sirloin steak dinner… $ 16.95! And I had one of the brews, the Golden one and it was very good. Service was fast and friendly. The place is big and has a nice brewery like atmosphere. I plan to come back!

The beer is good, food and service not so much. First the server took 10+ minutes to bring me my beer, she actually came by and said«you dont have your beer yet?» So im guessing she or the bartender forgot. Then my Bison Burger came out raw when I had asked for it to be cooked medium. This confused me because we waited a good 45 minutes for our food. There are plenty of other better places to eat and drink in the area.

I stopped by Walnut during a recent visit on a rainy afternoon in Boulder. Walnut is Boulder’s original brewery celebrating 25 years. The bar at the brewery was full, so sat at table. A server came right away, I ordered a sampling of a few beers Pomegranate Wheat Ale, 1123IPA, St. James Irish Red Ale and 25th Anniversary Double IPA and waited for the waiter to return but he didn’t, I wasn’t sure if he went on break or what was going on. No one could find him, so I paid at the bar & left.

This was stop number two on our impromptu Boulder Brewery tour. We arrived shortly before the start of happy hour. After perusing the HH menu, we waited until it began to go wild. Our service was very good. The beer was nice and cold, and the brown in particular was quite tasty. This was the Old Elk Brown Ale, which won the 2010 Gold Medal at GABF in the English-Style Brown Ale Category. We ordered several items from the HH food menu. I thought the Black Bean Southwest Hush(Crispy black bean hush puppies made with masa, green chilies, green onion and pepper jack cheese. Served with Sriracha Cream and pico de gallo) were some of the best hush puppies I have enjoyed. The Wonton Pork Tacos(Crispy wonton taco shells filled with shredded pork tossed in a Hoisin chilli sauce, topped with a vegetable slaw tossed in our sweet Thai chilli sauce.) were very flavorful and crunchy. The star of our food selections would have to be the Brewery Nachos(Housemade tortilla chips with black beans, melted cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro and red onions. Served with salsa) and we added guacamole, sour cream, and chicken. This was a huge portion for the price, very fresh and tasty, and we devoured it.

5 stars because our server was one of the best we have ever had(thanks Delaney!). The food menu rocks. Try the bison fajitas, it’s a really unique take on the traditional dish. As for beer, their pale ale is one of the best I have had. Really deep citrus notes and a clean finish, not overly bitter. I will definitely be back on return trips to Boulder.

First off, I have to say, «they’re back.» We were steady customers for decades, going back to when this was the ONLY brew pub in Boulder(1990) and a good one at that. It was Frank Day’s prototype for what became the Rock Bottom chain. My husband became a great fan of amber ales here in the 90’s and we both really liked the food. I wondered how they would compare to the new competition we have been frequenting and how much our tastes had changed. Sometime in the last decade, they sort of lost their way. First was the upswing in breweries in town and all the new quality eateries and then the final straw was the sale of the whole group. My last encounter a few years back, before I was on Unilocal, was unpleasant and we stopped going. Recently I had been hearing mixed reviews so looking for a change of pace downtown tonight, we decided to give them another try. Our favorite items were back on the menu, the staff was so much more professional and friendly than the last time, and we had a really good time. There was one small glitch, which the manager handled with such professionalism, I cannot even fault them for it. We were enjoying our drinks and had barely thought about how long our nachos were taking, when the manager came over to inform us that a cook had forgotten them under the broiler and they had burned beyond serving and they had already put together a replacement which would be out shortly. And we would be comped for the item. Solved a problem before we even knew there was one. Delicious, incredibly large serving of nachos appeared shortly. Followed by our chicken enchiladas, always an old favorite, with the sauces fresher and more updated than I remember. The amber ale«St James» is still a good choice according to my husband. I even heard that Frank Day, on the board of the new ownership, still stops in from time to time to check on the Walnut though it does have its own management. I will stop in again too, adding them back in to our rotation through our many local brew pub choices.

I visit the Walnut weekly and am always greeted by smiles and friendly faces. The happy hour here is amazing — delicious food(pulled pork sliders & the bruschetta are my favorite), and super tasty beer(the 1123IPA is to die for) The waitstaff are tremendous(BIG props to Val and Amber), super friendly, attentive, and better yet they magically remember beers for each person when I attend with a group(sometimes we exceed 20 ppl!). * Definitely register for the MUG Club and Walnut emails. Lots of great coupons and perks: * Once you’ve registered for the Walnut emails you will get invited to exclusive events like their monthly keg tapping(Mug Club members get a free brew on this day!)
