I really like this store because they have a great selection, and more importantly they have high quality chicken feed that I can’t find elsewhere. The prices on the feed are great as well, I recommend any backyard chicken folks check it out!

Here’s an interesting tidbit about me: I really want to raise chickens. I’ve been dreaming about raising chickens for the last several years. Unfortunately, I’ve lived in apartments and towns that don’t allow chickens. Only a handful of assorted towns in my area(Chicago suburbs) allow people to raise backyard chickens and I haven’t been a resident of any of them. Oh, but this will change next year. Next year, I’ll get my chickens! For now, I’ll just dream while visiting other people’s chickens. When I found myself walking along the famous Pearl Street on a recent trip to Colorado, I passed by this store and just HAD to go inside. I actually heard about The Savvy Hen a few weeks prior from a chicken-raising friend of mine that lives outside of Boulder, but didn’t expect to actually visit it! Oh. Em. Gee. This place fosters my Barnheart!* This is THE place to go in the Boulder area for your chicken-raising needs. The shop itself is adorable: crafted bird feeders on the wall, large sacks of chicken feed, a bulk chicken feed ‘buffet bar’ where you only take the amount you need, assorted farming tools and containers(tubs!), stacks of gardening and poultry-raising books, assorted succulents, and random artisan body care products. Egg cartons, feeders, coops, and other chicken accessories can be found here. Seeds and tools for gardening, along with cheese-making and food preserving are also available. The woman working the store at the time was nice and sweet and answered my questions. I could have stayed for hours, drooling over everything and soaking up farming knowledge if I didn’t have two friends with me and other destinations. I wanted to pick this store up by its foundation and place it in my hometown. Swoon. My hope is that when I finally become a chicken-raising mama, there is a store just like this one nearby. A psychological disorder, usually of childhood, characterized by impairments in social interactions and repetitive behavior patterns centered around agricultural aspirations; particularly organic, natural, and sustainable farming pursuits.)
