Boulder Creek Winery

I only wished I had discovered this place sooner!!! They are closing for good in December :(
I went in on a Friday for their wine tasting. The woman working, Sheri, was very friendly and knowledge able about all the different offerings.
I recommend trying the Murphy’s Choice and the Syrah which were my two favorites.
And go soon! Once they sell out of wine they are closing down. Also if you buy a case it’s 25% off.

We came here with a little group of friends, the «tour» was good, you just walk around the next room and read the little signs that have been put up. It’s not much to look at but the info was good.
It’s $ 5 for 6 tastings and then you get $ 3 off if you make a purchase. We likes a free of their wines and bought stuff. The lady was great, if one of our friends didn’t buy something she gave the discount to someone else.

We were there 12÷7÷14 with an organized tour run out of Loveland. To say that the reception we got was chilly would be an understatement. They were running a private event concurrently, and seemed overwhelmed and annoyed by our presence, to the point of being rude. The owner then proceeded to get into an argument with the driver of the limo, and basically told him that she didn’t want him or his clients to return. I can’t honestly review their wines, as I didn’t want to impose on them by having the audacity to ask to pay them for samples. I spent a lot of years in sales and customer service, and this is not what I would have expected. Generally, chasing off customers because they are inconvenient is not a successful business strategy.

Yesterday, my mom and I decided to take a trip over to Boulder Creek Winery while on our girls day in Boulder. I honestly wasn’t expecting anything out of this «self guided» tour and tasting, however I was quickly surprised. Walking in we decided to do the «self guided» tour first and although it was reading more than actually seeing and touching, the signs weren’t too long to read to where you would get bored. I also very much enjoyed learning about the corking process, that was very interesting! Now onto the fun part; the tasting! We paid $ 5 for a tasting of six different wines, which were so unique in themselves (make sure you try the Riesling if you’ve never had a smooth type)! Not only were the wines very good, the woman helping us was SO informative on all the questions I had; and I had a lot. Needless to say, if up in Boulder and you’re looking for something to do or looking to venture out of a beer tasting, try Boulder Creek Winery!

This was my second visit to Boulder Creek and it was as positive as the first. The tasting room is small, but cozy and inviting. There is a short and interesting self-​guided tour of the wine making process and their facility.
The tasting fee is an inexpensive $ 5. They have a nice range of wines from whites to blush (White Merlot) to deep reds: and dry to sweet. My visiting friend from Virginia liked the Viognier, while I preferred the Reisling.
The wine server, Kris, makes the experience. She is friendly, knowledgeable and relaxed. Competent and attentive when it is crowded; conversant and sparkling when you’re the only ones there.
This is a good stop to pair with a visit to the nearby Leanin’ Tree Museum of Western Art and Sculpture.

At this point, it probably goes without saying that I am not a fancy person. I don’t know how to carry myself well in public, I don’t own anything from Neiman Marcus, I have unevolved senses. So it’s nice to find a winery that, from my experience, has no pretense.
How do I know this?
Well, first my group and I had a tough time finding this place because it’s tucked away, its only marking being a small sign (in CU Boulder colors) we spotted on our way out outside the building. Second, when my group walked in, the lady greeting us said, «have a look around; there’s a tour in that room — it’s not long but you may like it.» Third, they let my group help out in some of the wine packaging, which they do by hand. Family-​owned for the win (e)!
As I said, I am an uncultured swine, so anything beyond knowing how to «swirl» or «sip» («gulp») or «that weird thing where you inhale while the liquid is in your mouth and you try not to spit it everywhere» (technical term) is beyond me. Everything tasted fine, and I will obviously never forego alcohol if I pay for it (so I’ll never spit it out). I know that doesn’t sound like a rave review, but trust me when I say that the tasting runs the gamut of sweet to dry and dark red to clear white. Also, they give you chocolate covered coffee beans for one of their tastings. On gold plates.
Unfortunately, they have not gotten their wines into Denver proper yet, except for in one restaurant (I’ve since forgot the name of. Sorry, person reading this), and I am a poor kid who can’t afford big boy bottles of wine, so until I get back to Boulder I won’t be able to have a by-​the-​bottle experience of Boulder Creek. But at least now I can find it.

A self guided tour is a nice touch to this winery that allows you to see the barrels and fermenting equipment that is used. The tasting room is small but nice but the service is a little pretentious. If you make a comment about one of the wines and note what you taste depending on who is working expect to be corrected which is kind of off putting. All in all the wine is good but far from the best I have had in Colorado and it is not worth the price.

I love the wine here. You can get a $ 5 wine tasting and take a tour of how they make the wine. The inside is small and quaint.
I really like their Cabs and the Merlot. You can tell it’s a local business and everyone that works there is so nice. If you’re not from the area, these wines make awesome presents. If you buy a case of wine, you become a VIP member where you get discounts and perks. Every year in January they do a Consensus tasting where they have all their VIP members try different wines over 3 weeks to determine which is the most highly voted. Then they label that wine Consensus.
The winery is conveniently located in North Boulder and could be a cool place to check out with friend or people visiting the area.

This is a really adorable winery tasting room. I enjoyed looking at their displays adjacent to the tasting room, which included wine barrels, a map of wineries and where grapes are grown in CO, a description of the different types of corks, and historical information about the winery. Coming from the CA wine area, I can’t say this is the best wine in the world, but the experience was great. My boyfriend and I ended up having a long chat with the owners over our wine. They are really nice people. I’d recommend this as a good afternoon stop on a tasting tour.

Just OK Wines. The owner saw me check in via Unilocal!and he did not make mention or offer the coupon for free tasting. Kind of snooty attitude for such a small winery.

With some great local Colorado wines (from the peachy Palisades area, and some imported zinfandel from California) and an even better tasting room staff, it was easy to see how I spent an entire hour here just chatting away.
They offer a self-​guided winery tour, chocolates with your zin port, and some great wines like their 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and their 2011 Viognier (some of the best I’ve had in a while). This is NOT a fancy, schmancy tasting room with a million candles and dog porter bags. It’s simple, low-​key, winetasting.
Their winemaker (a woman, so I’m inclined to believe possesses a certain extra finesse) has done an excellent job of producing some flavorful, fruit-​forward wines while maintaining the vital tannins to that create a jaw-​sucking wine to go with delicious Colorado meals on mountains.
A great respite after a long week in the Rockies.

The only winery in Colorado with wine that is not only drinkable, but actually good. The tasting room is pretty ho-​hum — pretty comparable to the tasting rooms of the smaller breweries and the meadery in the area. Not a bad place to check out, but will probably not be quite up to snuff if you are used to the wineries in California.

Continuing on a Sunday drive to a few Colorado Wineries Boulder Creek made the list of stops. The tasting room is warm and cozy and you can go on a self-​guided tour of the operation. The tastings were $ 3 for 5. The pours were small but the employee was pleasant and knowledgeable. We ended up purchasing a bottle of White Merlot which we found interesting.

I LOVE this place! I had a bad tasting experience in Estes Park so I was wary of Colorado wines/​wineries, but I needn’t have been — this place is great! The tasting room is small, but they are very generous pouring about 8 tastes for only $ 3! Deal!
I admit I’m a tad spoiled having lived in the SF Bay Area and gone wine tasting an number of times in Napa, Sonoma, St. Helena and Paso Robles areas. Unlike CA’s wineries which can be VERY crowded and sometimes a bit pretentious (though also very delicious), Boulder Creek was downright friendly and helpful. The pourer was so gracious, polite, and enthusiasticl! The other guests were friendly and the atmosphere was very let’s-talk-about-wine. I love this tasting room and highly recommend a visit!
Check out the FABULOUS 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon! You won’t regret it! Yum!

The meeting place on our food-lover’s tour. The 13 of us had a private tasting and conversation with the owner. My husband was so inspired by their story and interest in keeping it small, it set him off to consider doing something similar as a future career.
Bought several bottles to take home and prices were very fair.

A few good choices. Especially compared to GA mountain wines. Enjoyed the conversation with the staff and others. Loaded up with several bottles.

I love love love this place. I stumbled upon this when I was searching for free things to do in Boulder. They recently changed their policy though, and now it is $ 3 for the tasting. Still very inexpensive for over 10 tastes of wine. It is a small family owned winery. The son actually was running the tasting room when we were there and was very knowledgeable. I especially liked their award winning cabernet and the Murphy’s Choice-​named after the family dog, it is a slightly sweet red table wine. They also include a taste of port that is served with a chocolate covered coffee bean. We were so impressed with every one of our tastes we became member. All it takes to be a member is to purchase a case (12 bottles) and they let you mix and match! The membership includes free tastings for you and a guest for a year and very generous discounts on bottles. Being from California and knowing what it takes to be a preferred member or VIP there, this place has an Amazing Deal!

My husband and I visited the Boulder Creek Winery about 3.5 years ago to write a story on the owners (as a project for a class) & sample the wines. I definitely think that the people who own this place KNOW their stuff. The wines are made from Colorado grapes (as far as I remember, maybe some others as well?) and are made & aged here in Boulder. They taste quite good, and have nice flavor. I recommend taking the tour to learn how they make their wine, and then sample some of the varieties in the sampling room! Makes for a nice afternoon. They’re located in kind of an odd spot (it was hard to find at first for us) but just follow the signs and you’ll get there!

This was the first Colorado winery I visited since moving here from Washington last year. It is TINY but cute inside. The wine server was friendly and helpful but not very chatty, which left my girlfriend and I time to chat with ourselves! There were 15 or so wines to taste, all free with the exception of their prized port. We met a couple who drove all the way from Durango to buy this port. It was good if you like that kind of thing, however I am not big on sweet dessert wines. They had some unique whites, including a «white» merlot, more a blush color but perfect for brunch. I love the sauvignon blanc and the syrah. There is a very cool self-​guided tour of the wine making process with lots of pictures, info and equipment — something you don’t see at every other winery. Perfect pit stop if you are taking visitors out and about in Boulder. It’s in a warehouse-​y area so a bit hard to find but worth it.
