Wendy’s

Back to class means back to quick lunches in the Curry Center. If you’re here at the wrong time the Wendy’s line can get pretty out of control. Still, my orders have always been correct and I’ve been in and out in about 5 minutes. Though, I do only order chili and side salads at Wendy’s so it would be pretty difficult to mess it up.
The cashiers aren’t the friendliest of people, but who would love serving spoiled college kids while they complain about lack of snow days and the Four Loko ban?

Wendy’s food is pretty much the same from restaurant to restaurant– and I won’t lie, I love Wendy’s food.
But the customer service at this Wendy’s is terrible. Actual things that have happened to me and friends:
-«Chipotle Ranch? Is that the orange one?»
–Baked potato, lidless, in a bag with no fork/​sour cream/​anything.
–Waiting ten minutes with ONE other person in line.
–Attitude from cashier (almost always).
What happened to the woman with the impressive mustache? She kept that machine running at an acceptable speed. Now, I’ll walk the extra ten steps and get Taco Bell instead.

Food-​wise, you know what you’re getting when you step into the Wendy’s queue. Don’t lie to yourself.
My bone to pick with this Wendy’s is about customer service. You ever see the Knicks play a full game while Isiah’s coaching… To watch this Wendy’s crew for 2 minutes is worse!!! This cracked-​out staff of degenerate, unmotivated clock-​watchers should be filmed for a case study at Cornell’s Hospitality School. I’ve never seen any employee smile or speak cordially to each other. When I ask what their new menu items are, I don’t get a verbal response… merely an eyeroll and a readjustment of the marketing poster.
Clearly, it all stems from the manager. Not only the fact that he hired these low-​potential people, but that (1) he berates them publicly and (2) carries himself like customers are a burden and he is the only competent one around. Coming from the food service industry myself, I’ve seen managers handle casual restaurants well… even with $ 7/​hr employees. Low wages don’t mean stupid/​unmotivated unless you treat them so. And this manager does so.
Repeatedly, my two hopes while waiting in line are: (1) I don’t get food poisoning and (2) that an owner or regional mgr could see this team’s ineptitude and start over.

I went to make my regular deposit for work — the weekly walk of torment, when I feed a stack of checks worth twice my annual salary into an atm & reflect on my existence as a lowly office peon. the regular entrance to the curry center was closed so I had to go through the cafeteria/​food court thing.
I think the 16 hour sleep/​3000 calorie consumption totals for the entire week finally caught up with me, & I did something I NEVER ever do — I ate gross fast food. not even from a REAL fast food place, but from the wendy’s in the curry center at northeastern. lame!
maybe I was drawn in by the new «frosty float» poster because Ive been known to love me some floats. or maybe my decision was subconsciously based on the mournful faces of the skinny girls in line at the next stall, with their fruit & coffee and their low-​calorie snacks. man, they looked HUNGRY! eff that — I needed trans fats & I needed them stat! before I knew it, I was devouring a classic single & oh yes, a giant frosty float. that thing was GOOD, okay?
needless to say, the stuff does not leave a pleasantly full, satiated feeling in your belly. more like «oh god what did I just put in my body? get it out! get it OUT!»
I almost wanted to puke it all up after I finished because I immediately felt sick, but that would have been a total waste of a perfectly good $ 4.58
I confessed to my gf in a text message «i had wendys 4 lunch i h8 myself» but she seems to think consuming large amounts of fried/​fatty food is a noble accomplishment and texted back «you make me very proud» awww shucks…
anyway the food is supreme masochism. I must leave work early now to recover by taking naps & watching old ufc fights kthnx.
