Very disappointed last year I bought a package for tanning for 3 session, to date I have only used 1. Made an appt on Friday Nov 1 for Weds Nov 6, only to get there and the doors were locked. Called left a message never replied to my call, and the salon next door said that a moving truck was there today and everything went. Very unprofessional should have at least called me to cancel or arrange something else!

I love this place. I am here every other week for a spray or blow out. The personalized customer service and price is unbeatable. I trust these ladies! Great price as well.

I cannot believe that Sobella got so many terrible reviews. I recently moved to Southie and desperately needed a haircut so I randomly picked this place, as it was closest to my apartment. I could not stop smiling when I left — my hair looks the most amazing it’s ever looked, and the owner even gave me a free spray on my stomach for me to try it out.(Which, by the way, I will definitely be going back for as soon as possible) I’m incredibly pale and I’ve always been afraid of being orange but my front is so naturally tan right now it’s unbelievable. I would recommend this place a million times over.

I have been going to Sobella Salon for the past year, and yesterday was probably my best visit yet. I don’t know what happened in these older reviews, but I have always had professional and awesome color/cuts here. I think the salon changed names from Sunshine Tanning to Sobella somewhat recently, but they offer hair services, waxing and tanning booths and spray tans. I recently relocated to NYC for work, but I took a day trip yesterday back to Boston to get a new NYC look. I haven’t been this excited about my hair in a long time. Over the time I’ve been coming here, I have gone from dark dark brown to bronde(light, golden and fresh) and have cut off about 10−12″ of my hair. Manie always does great color(full foil, glaze & cut), and she is a very upbeat, sassy and fun stylist. Businesses that weren’t awesome a few years ago can change, and this has become a nice local salon in Southie with affordable prices. Only gets 4 stars because it’s now 250 miles out of my area… but thanks for all the great hair!

I have searched all over Boston for the best spray tan and I have finally found it. My roommate and I have literally been everywhere else and I will never leave Sissy at Sobella. We found Sobella on Groupon and went in for airbrush tans. We also decided to get gloss treatments on our hair. The airbrush tan is the perfect shade and doesn’t look orange at all. Sissy does an amazing job applying it and I always feel comfortable with her. She’s so friendly and really makes you feel at home. The tan is the longest lasting I have ever had. I have gone a few times to get it done and there’s no way I’ll stop. The gloss treatment with Dawn left my hair feeling and looking amazing. It totally made me feel better about a recent bad haircut at a different salon. Dawn was so friendly and answered all my questions about the treatment and random hair questions. This salon is an amazing experience. I love chatting with the ladies there and always feel welcome and at home. I would never go anywhere else.

I wish I could give less than one star. This place was the WORST place I have ever been to in my entire life. I went for a Brazilian waxing. My appointment was for 1030. I waited until after 1130 to be brought into a filthy room that wasn’t even private! They had a little table behind two sheer curtains set up in the hair washing room. Twice while waiting, I watched the person getting waxed before me get interrupted so other customers could get their hair rinsed! Complete lack of privacy aside, the table they brought me to was dirty. Dirty towel over dirty sheets, and nothing was covered in paper. There were no certificates to be seen in the entire establishment and the staff was RUDE and unprofessional. While I waited I had to listen to two stylists tell raunchy stories from their lives while doing hair. It was completely unprofessional. After telling them I refused to get waxed in such a dirty place, they called the manager who YELLED at me on the phone! I literally could not believe that after such an awful experience, the manager would be so rude to her clientele. To their credit, the stylists who were there did cringe with embarrassment at this point. I will NEVER go back there, and I wouldn’t even recommend it to my worst enemy.

This place lacks any kind of professional atmosphere. Now, I have to admit, I am lazy when it comes to getting my hair cut and usually just go anywhere that is on my way home. However, I can only take so much. I have been to this place a handful of times and each time someone different cuts my hair and without a doubt I have to either wait for a stylist to show up or to finish blow drying a friends hair. When I say wait to show up i mean more then fifteen minutes. The owner will say that she is five minutes away, by five minutes she means«I just called to wake her up and she is coming from Dorchester.» Seriously. The reason I am writing this review is because I stopped by on my way home from work yesterday wanting to get a trim before starting my weekend and the stylist working decided that she wanted to close early and couldn’t fit me in. It was 5:30pm, they close at 7:00pm and she had no one left. I understand wanting to get your weekend started early but common act like a professional. On top of that, I scheduled an appointment for this morning at 11:00am and when I got to the salon, on time, the stylist just started working on someone’s hair, though he offered to get up I just couldn’t bring myself to make someone else get up. I abruptly left, yes dramatic, but I just couldn’t take it anymore. I need to find somewhere that is better then this establishment. These places are why Southie gets a bad name. To the owner, your establishment will not continue to exist if you do not shape up your salon. You, as an owner, have no excuse to run your salon in this fashion. Open when you are suppose to open and close when you are suppose to close, don’t lie to your customers and get your friends out of your shop while you are open for business. The nice thing about having your own salon is having a key to the front door to do your friends hair. Your brother should have left the place a tanning salon, I expect this kind of treatment with a sunburn, not a hair salon. Do not waist your money on this place.

hmm– this place is still disgusting. I stopped in today after the last review to see if it has improved– noooope. It still smells like smoke and the tanning room is all dirty and smelly. I felt like an animal was going to crawl out of the cracks of the ceiling at any moment — far from a relaxing tanning experience to say the least. nooo thank you. Admittedly I cannot comment on the quality of the hair styling because if they can’t get a simple tanning room right I would never trust them with my hair — but I also don’t think I could sit through that smell for the time it takes to get a haircut. I do feel bad for the scathing reviews because the owner and others that work there are really nice, but nice doesn’t clean up a business. The place would greatly improve with a little maintenance and a no smoking policy.

Don’t do it. I went randomly on my walk home from the T for a quick tanning session. The room was disgusting. Dirt and grim all over. I did the stand up and cringed the entire time I was in it. I quit halfway through just so I could get out of there. Also, it reeks of smoke. The woman behind the counter was smoking(inside) and was kind enough to exhale a bunch of smoke right into the room before shutting the door. «hole in the wall» is correct. Update: From the pics that are posted, it looks like the place has had major renovation since I was there. So maybe my experience is dated and everyone should go to the new and improved Sunshine Tanning… but please believe me that the woman WAS smoking and even said«my daughter would kill me if she caught me smoking». I’m starting to wonder if all the five star ratings are from people who work there… or maybe it’s just the owner with multiple accounts. *cringes brow while considering such a conspiracy* Also, look down a few comments… I’m not the only one that got a bad impression from this place.

It’s a little hole in the wall tanning salon that also offers hair and facial waxing services(which I haven’t tried, but eye brows go for $ 8). The staff is really nice but this isn’t your up-scale, super swanky Newbury Street salon, even though some of their services are priced like one. I’d shop around for other places based on tanning equipment quality and price before I would go here but it’s a quick 3 – 4 minute walk down the street from Broadway station and you don’t need to make appointments.
