I really like Kimpton hotels and the restaurants attached to them, but was a little disappointed with this one. The menu was limited; I had the special which was chicken Marsala. The meal was good but not great in terms of the Kimpton standards. The service/bar tender was great though, and overall a positive experience.

3 stars seems just right. Before the Garth brooks concert, there was literally no place to eat within .4 miles that wasn’t with a wait so we ended up here. It’s a nice hotel bar and I would agree that the staff is very nice. The food was pretty good but I think the biggest issue is that it’s overpriced. It’s ok and they have the ability to keep the prices where they are given their location and being a hotel bar but 28 for salmon and 20 for a burger is steep and worth saying regardless. For those prices id expect more of a fine dining experience but still an ok find for the area and amongst the probably less great sports bar.

Overall I was pleased with the Ruby Room. I had the pleasure of meeting some friends after work and I ended up arriving first. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by a hotel staffer who couldn’t help me, but was nice enough to bring the bartender over to me who was equally as friendly as I was being seated. She then swiftly brought me a glass of sauvignon blanc. My friends arrived and we all ordered different drinks including a red sangria and appletini. Everyone said they were nice and strong. I ordered the pear and gargonzola salad with some chicken and it was very good. The dressing was perfectly sweet/tart and the chicken was blackened and very tender. One of my friends ordered the spinach risotto and raved about it. The atmosphere was very clean and crisp, and although I’m a sports buff, my friends are not so they appreciated having a non-sports bar alternative near The Garden — something to keep in mind for the future. Since it’s a block off North Station it’s really easy to get to from virtually anywhere. It’s a nice little place and I would have no problem visiting there again.

In a very first for me(and I thought I’d already been the through pretty much all of those), the bartender actually cut my girlfriend and me off BEFORE we got drunk. Very strange. To make it even stranger, we were staying at the Onyx(the parent hotel) and hung out with him the previous night. On this night, however, we met another couple and were just chit chatting, and when we requested another drink, the bartender said that my girlfriend’s voice indicated that she was drunk and he would no longer serve us. I’m not going to lie — we were planning on getting drunk. But we were a long way from that ultimate destination at that point. We ended up leaving and going to another bar next door. Maybe he should make more of an effort to take care of his hotel customers?!?

I thought it was nice. We sat down at the bar around 6:00 on a Friday evening. The bartender was not in the lounge, and it took almost 10 minutes to be noticed. However, when he did come back, he apologized and was very attentive and made good conversation. He even allowed me to taste several wines to determine which I liked. We ordered the goat cheese and buffalo chicken sliders, which were tasty. I thought the prices were fair for the area, and the room was warm and cozy. The bartender mentioned that they were remodeling the ruby room entirely, so I’m excited to come back!

Got room service from here while staying at The Onyx. The food is average. I got a margherita flatbread pizza and arancini and both were just meh for the price. The portions were decent but not worth it for the price they charge. I wouldn’t go out of my way for this place but I suppose it’s convenient if you’re feeling lazy and just want some food sent to your room.

Met some friends here to watch the Celtics game and we left by the end fo the first quarter to go somewhere else. Drinks are pricey and there was no floor server so we had to order from the bar even though we were sitting in a lounge area. TV is not HD, which at a pricy place like this it is surpising, what are you doing with your money? Can’t comment on the food except that I was hungry and didn’t order anything. Don’t think I’d go back unless dragged and someone else pays.

Ugh. It’s too bad that a non-sports bar around the Garden with decent décor and good alcohol selection is ruined by shoddy service and terrible, overpriced drinks. We ordered one round after waiting 20 minutes to be noticed, only to get a couple sour juleps. Our second round, well, nothing like a little Cointreau in a dirty martini. I won’t be going back.

Seeking a warm spot to have a nosh and some drinks before a concert last Sunday, we wandered into the Ruby Room at The Onyx Hotel. I liked saying it, The Ruby Room at the Onyx Hotel. It sounded like the meeting place for a secret rendezvous. For us however it was more of a safe haven from the scalpers and metal heads just outside. The patrons were all chatting softly and everything was warm and cozy. Having secured a table for 2 for us my date chose my drink for me, a Ruby Red Martini. For his own cocktail he chose a Tennessee Julep. Both were good but his was far tastier(and cheaper) so for our next round we both had the Juleps. Nothing on the scaled down Sunday night menu tempted us so we enjoyed our liquid dinner under the soft ruby glow of the chandelier. The lighting from the gorgeous fluted glass tulips was indeed the centerpiece of the bar area. Our server, Amanda, was as attentive as she could be on such a busy night. The room was packed and she seemed to be the only server on. The manager was a strong presence as well as helping where she could with checks and seating arrangements. There will be a return trip to the Ruby Room when we can linger longer and indulge in a meal.

Thumbs up — to the atmosphere and décor. Cozy, quiet, tv so you can still watch the game and a bar tender to match it all. Thumbs down — to the drinks. Not overly pricey, but not really as good as would expect for the price. Maybe I should try the Grapetini? However when the game’s all over and you don’t want to fight your way through drunken doofus’s at the numerous sports bars outside the garden, Ruby Room provides a quiet retreat, a price that is worth one so-so martini.

Yes, what they said. When you are not in the sports bar frame of mind, it’s a decent take. Food is barely one step up from the Fleet Center’s. Not imaginative and $ 6 for a tiny plate of chips with blue cheese sauce is ridiculous. Cocktails are a bit on the pricey side, and a margarita should never, ever be served in a tumbler at a place like this. Grape martini was very well done, however. Room was ok, slickish, comfy enough and well designed. Staffing was professional, but only one person working a pre-event crowd?! huh? Bottom line — one relaxing cocktail and out you go.

After a Celtics-Pistons game, I wanted to kill some time at a bar while waiting for traffic to clear. Decked out in Pistons gear after a tough Boston loss(Chauncey Billups is the man!), I decided a packed sports bar was not the way to go. After a few minutes, I happened upon Ruby Room, which is essentially the lobby bar of the Onyx Hotel. The décor is really cool and it’s a good place for a drink or two, but I wouldn’t make a night out of it. The layout of the bar itself is conducive to random conversations and there were plenty that night. Too bad the bartender wasn’t around to partake in them. She disappeared for long stretches at a time and I had to wait quite a while to order my drink and close out my tab. As a side note, as I was leaving and walking back to the parking garage at Government Center, I saw two people having sex in a doorway of a Portland Street storefront. Not inside… outside and basically on the sidewalk. It really has nothing to do with Ruby Room, but I wanted throw that out there.

I would say an emphatic ok. Just alright. They had a decent scotch selection which was nice for a fairly upscale place. Also, the bar was like in the reception, separated by just a partial wall, which was weird. The app we had was pretty good. The sangria was terrible and barely drinkable. Just an ok place but should be better.

The food is meh, ok, but it’s a good place for pre-dinner drinks. I only go here for cocktails, anyway. And the only cocktail I’ve ever had here is the Grapetini. It is sick. Sick like backflips on a BMX bike.

Ruby Room opened for lunch today, and the results were disastrous. I ordered the Smoked Turkey with Monterey Jack sandwich which was suppose to come with carmelized onions and cranberry sauce. What I got was the blandest sandwich with a pastel pink jello-flavored sauce with no onions. Friends ordered the roast beef and the italian combo and weren’t blown away, but found them at least edible. The only thing that stood out about lunch was the $ 3 we were charged for 8−10oz ice packed glasses of watered down coke with no offer for a refill. For the $ 10 – 12, you can get a lot better food at the Subway and Au Bön Pain on the same street. I won’t be back. Don’t waste your time and money on this lunch spot.

Intimate lounge *tiny* at the lobby of this boutiquey hotel. The food is really good, although I must say… I haven’t ordered anything since the chef, Jonathan, left. The star of this place is their martini menu… esp the GRAPETINI!

Cozy hotel bar with slick décor and great drinks. The plush chairs are perfect for relaxing cocktails and sharing their«tapa» like menu. I went here with some girlfriends and had a great time. I loved their hand cut chips with blue cheese.
