Gino is fantastic and just feels like a classic fun barbershop. He’s great at cutting hair and you have some great conversations. Very welcoming and fun for kids too.

Best option for a kid’s haircut in Boston. Gino rocks. Can’t believe I went to Supercuts for his first haircut.

Anyone who makes me look this good deserves 5 stars. Ok in all seriousness Gino provided a wonderful haircut and a great service. Went in with hair that looked like Ronald McDonald and left with a great cleaned up cut. Would HIGHLY recommend this place. Gino-if you’re even reading this-you have a proud new client. Can’t wait to book my next appt. 5 stars

I LOVEGINO. I love Gino so much, that I’ve delayed writing this review, in order to keep him all to myself. Johnny and Gino’s is a Boston institution. Johnny(until he retired) used to cut Mayor Menino’s hair, and I’ve personally spotted members of the Bruins hanging out in the shop, waiting for their trims. So, first, a confession: I am not Italian, nor am I one of those lucky interlopers that married into an Italian family and secured a crib in the coveted North End, but I have been going to Gino since before I could talk. Family legend has it that he gave me my first haircut(and they have the baby curls to prove it… in a ziplock bag. EEK). I have fond memories of playing with Gino’s Tonka trucks as my Mum and my Grandmother had their hair done. When I grew up, being young and not on the dole of my parents anymore, I started cheating on Gino with the chain stores, and my hair suffered. My hair, once a go-to icebreaker(OMG your hair is so BIG, CURLY, BEAUTIFUL, ETC) became limp, oily, frizzy and boring. I took to tying my hair up in a pony tail. Three years ago, right before I entered law school, my mother suggested that I go back to Gino’s. Gino lopped off half of my hair, and I am never, ever going back to long hair again. My hair is once more bouncy and curly, and truly has a life of its own. Every time I go to a large event, my friends eventually always joke«they’ll look for my hair» in order to find me amongst the crowd. I think Gino specializes in short hair. My Grandmother, Mother, and both aunts proudly rock«do’s» shorter then a bob. Gino also cut’s men’s hair, my Uncle Eddie swears by him. A wash and dry, cut and styling is only $ 35 for women, a steal if you ask me. Besides being a wizard with the scissors, Gino is also a lovely human being. He seems genuinely excited to get updates on the inter workings of your life(and willing to gossip with you, on the other members of your family who happened to stop by earlier). He also is a passionate and educated fan of the Bruins, Italian soccer, and reality TV, and is willing to pass this knowledge along to his patrons free of charge. Gino also is a wonderful North End tour guide: he pointed me both to Umberto’s and Bricco’s, two of my favorite food spots in all of Boston. I’m pretty certain every society woman of the North End goes to Gino. I feel like I am betraying the tribe a bit, exposing his greatness to the rest of the world, but I take my duty as a Unilocaler seriously. Johnny and Gino’s is truly a hidden gem. Not only will you get the best hair cut of your life, you will have the privilege of infiltrating true North End culture, at least for the length of your hair cut.

I read the reviews and I thought to check this place out and get my hair cut! Well I end up being very disappointed from it all! The environment is pretty plain and ahead of me was an older lady in her 80’s(not the type of barbershop I’m used too) anyway I gave it a shot because I commuted 35 min to get there. I had made my appointment at 2:30 but my hair cut didn’t start until 3:20 and is CASHONLY! I gave the guy(Gino I believe his name was) specific instructions on how to trim my hair and he did the complete opposite of what I told him. Overall was a pretty quiet and awkward 30 minutes seating on the chair! If you are looking for a fun experience and a good haircut this ain’t the place for you!!!

This place is great. Barber loyalty is at the top of my list, but on an arctic cold day(my girlfriend suggested) I try something closer to the apartment which is on this side of the North End. I called at 9:20am with an offer that I could be their in a few minuets if they could squeeze me in for a trim. I didn’t realize it until afterwords but one of his regulars must have let me go before her. I also didn’t know that they have been in that spot they’ve for 35 years! Real cool mellow local vibe, with low traffic and a stellar cut for cheap.

gino and johnny shoes have some great jokes to tell. though, sometimes gino’s are a little better. i came here first because it was up the street from me, and it was one of those days where i woke up realizing i couldn’t let my hair continue living the way it did. suddenly, this place has turned into the place i rely on for a clean cut. there’s never been a need to feel impressed — gino’s cuts always turn out just the way they’re supposed to be. the salon itself is minimal; what fills it is the conversation.

One of only two barber shops in Boston that I’ve found that cut my hair right. Gino is great — a long time north end resident. Knows everybody and is super friendly. Call to make an appointment before you go.

Zero to complain about here. Gino fits you in whenever you want a cut, the place is much more comfortable than other downtown shops to which I have gone, it is conveniently located so you can deal with errands before or after your appointment and the price is dead on with what you should expect.

Great barber shop. Gino cuts my hair every couple of weeks. They do a great cut, and have good conversation. Cant beat the price either.
