This was my childhood favorite… which is a shame. The place was filthy! my glasses and 2 of my guests glasses were coated with food jelly and my sons milk had chunks of black in the glass and floating. We got our drinks after we had been seated for over 20 minutes and listened to our waiter complain that he was busy and pass us off to a rude gent who brought us bread 15 minutes later after we had to ask. We ended up walking out. This place was so amazing. It was my first job when I was a teen and the food used to be as wonderful as the service. New ownership has completely failed!

I came here as part of a large group. Although we didn’t have reservations, we were accommodated quickly, occupying three separate tables. The menu is extensive and diverse, and we all ordered from the lunch menu, which came with a soup/salad and dessert. I ordered the cod fingers, which came with curly fries. The cod was slightly overcooked(chewy) but tasty overall. Most of my colleagues were satisfied with their orders. A group of my colleagues seated at one table, however, did not receive their orders until we were done with our meals and were receiving our dessert. The service was friendly, but some servers were more efficient than others. The bakery has an awesome selection!!!

Worst Father’s Day dinner in a long time. If you’re short-staffed, then please seat me in another section rather than to give me inferior service. The worst was watching the waiter take a 10 minute break in the employee dining area while I was trying to eat and had to get my own water from the server station. I will think long and hard before driving the ½ hour here for a special occasion. The plate was so hot from being under the heating element that all the cheese had melted off the burger and was pooled in the plate under the bun. I love coming here but this was just a very bad experience.

This diner is literally the Beyoncé of all diners. I’ve been coming here for years and each time the experience is better and better. Guy Fieri should honestly retire in this diner. The owner is also the most handsome man I’ve ever seen, as is his son(hit me up alex!) I try and order a different thing each time I dine here because I don’t want my mouth to miss out on all that this place has to offer. I would work here for the rest of my life if it meant I could be in the presence of such amazing food.

Wow, this diner sure went downhill. From the piece of lettuce floating in the water glass to the dried out cold chicken I ordered. As always the staple of the diner(cheese and cinnamon bread) still tasted pretty good. As a family that use to go on a regular basis I’m sad to say that I will NEVERGOBACK. RIP Mastoris

Inconsistant quality of food. Friendly bakery staff, but consistantly awful wait staff.

Drove home Sunday evening from NY city. We decided to stop at Mastoris Diner for dinner. What a disappointment in quality of food. Everything was frozen and fried or baked. The beets where out of a can or jar– all vinegar not very good No presentation in any of the food. The service was? What service? Just not a very good experience! The board of health needs to inspect this restaurant!

Kinda sad. Everything was dirty. My husband couldn’t even drink his coffee bc the mug was so dirty. My first set of silverware was crusty and the second was stuck together. My husband’s first set of silverware was caked on with white stuff and the second had something stuck in the tines. The food was delicious, of course. The waitress was very sweet and friendly. I’m thinking we will probably not be back. Ah well.

This was my first time dining at mastori’s and i have to say it was a rollercoaster of events. First, it took 15 minutes after we were seated to be acknowledged by our waitress. During this 15 minutes we asked another waitress what’s taking so long. She responded with«it’s a holiday,» rather rudely. Second, when we finally ordered and got our food it wasn’t prepared correctly. When verbalizing this to our waitress she responded with«it’s a holiday.» As if this is an acceptable reason. Thank goodness the food was good otherwise I’d give them one star. Lastly, as we were walking to our car there was a rather rancid smell which was garbage thrown all over the ground. I give mastori 2 stars because service and presentation is just as important as taste. Though they did great on taste everything else was lacking.

Not a fan overall of Mastoris, however the only entrée I’ll order is the dieters chicken; grilled chicken with mushrooms-excellent! They used to have excellent baked goods but they’ve really gone downhill!

I enjoy the food at Alstartz so expected breakfast at Mastoris to be yummy. I was, to my surprise, very disappointed by the food. I gave it two tries before writing a review — the first was meh and the second one was eh. My burger at the first visit was straight forward with no fuss. That usually makes the best burger, but although it was a safe bet the taste was boring. The fries were mushy, which is amazing because diner fries are usually the absolute best :) Second visit was for breakfast and I decided to try Huevos Rancheros. Yeah in retrospect ordering a Mexican dish at a diner that wasn’t great on 1st visit wasn’t the best idea :) In the end I got what I should have expected — cheap cheese microwaved on the chips which resulted in greasy globs with big onions and tasteless black beans. The rest of the food on the table was of equal quality of taste, but I gave them a 2-star because the bloody mary was great and the cheese bread was yummy :)

I can’t even tell how upsetting the trip to this place was. The food was ok, but nothing stood out. We waited to get served a bit, and than for a waiter to bring a bill for a while too, but despite that we left $ 5 tip on $ 25 bill. We were just about to leave when I noticed that all of a sudden the tip on customer receipt was $ 8! Needless to say the cashier was trying to cover it up saying she made a mistake and threw the receipt in the garbage! Nothing like this ever happened to me. I strongly suggest to stay away from that place!

Terrible practice to stand against those who frequent your business and require your support when in need… Sad when you as a business go ahead and provide support for those who stand against your frequent customers… For Mastoris to send in food trucks to provide meals for scabs is poor practice … No more We at Verizon in Hamilton, NJ will no longer«Let you do the work…» As you don’t support US the employees of Verizon!!!

Ended up eating here for a rehearsal dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is composed of three parts: bakery in the front, diner in the middle, and restaurant in the back(more of a formal avenue for parties or presentations). Right off the bat, the portions are very generous and very filling. Our group had the Caesar Salad along with a Vodka sauce pasta. For the main course, I chose the Chicken Francaise which came with a baked potato. The bakery foods are delicious as well — I strongly recommend the cinammon buns and cheese breads. I would say this restaurant-bakery-diner is a surprising gem if you end up in New Jersey. The rehearsal dinner charged $ 25 per head but delivered a very hearty 4 course meal with appetizers, main courses, and desserts.

This classic New Jersey Grecco diner in Bordentown, NJ has been around since 1927. One family has owned it, in all its iterations, over all these years. It began as a standard aluminum shell roadside diner, prefabricated in New York and driven down to near the present sight. Enlargements, fires, and the passing of the originator have all influenced the mega dinner you see today. There are several kitchens behind the dining room walls to handle the massive amount of food that is required to give Mastoris its signature image — huge plates of food, with enough cheese bread and side dishes to slay the hungry beast within. I had not been there for several years(decades), and although it looked basically the same, the quality of the food seemed to have declined somewhat. I remember stuffing myself until near annihilation just because everything tasted so good. The other day at lunch as I sat at the counter and consumed my Old Fashioned Chicken Salad on Challah and Fries(after the complementary cup of Split Pea Soup, and small bowl of Cole Slaw), I found myself eating without the same relish and abandon. True, being older may have had something to do with it, but from my perspective, it felt like the individual dishes before me were not as inspired and desirable as in yesteryear. Everything was okay, but not more than that. In particular, I found the soup to be thinner than a special split pea potage should be. Too, the chicken in the salad had a weird firm texture that did not appeal to me. The mayo, lettuce and bread were nice to look at, but didn’t make it feel like an integrated sandwich. I found myself removing the bread, and going directly for the chicken, bacon and tomatoes. The loaf was not true Challah, and lacked much flavor. I knew I wouldn’t order this again from good old Mastoris’s . The staff was gracious and professional, and clearly over-worked. Mastoris looks the same, but the product has changed, and not necessarily in a good way. It remains a historic dining option in this part of Jersey, but it has a lot of competition that can eat its lunch these days.

I just can’t get my head around what happened to Mastoris. I’ve been coming to eat here since I was a small child, back when my cousin had a job at the place. That was back when Mastoris used to be «the place» to eat. It just seems like their quality has gone downhill over the years. We were instantly served bread(no butter was given though??) and we each asked for a glass of water and the waitress forgot one of them.(she had to go back to get another one) She seemed a bit agitated by our requests. We waited a good 50 minutes to receive our food, and just when we finally got served the waitress told two members of the party that they ran out of sweet potato fries(which she accepted as their side order) and gave another member the wrong salad dressing. After 50 minutes??? C’mon… I ordered blueberry pancakes, and jesus christ the must’ve thrown a whole box of blueberries in there! Like seriously, they were so soggy(I thought they were undercooked) and there was barely any pancake, just full-on blueberries. If you like blueberries a lot get these then. But for the price, I won’t find myself returning anytime soon.

The last time I was here, I was a senior in high school. I had no food allergies at the time, so I fondly remember their famous breads, baked goods, and pasta dishes. Fast forward 13 years: the baked goods still look fantastic(I can no longer eat them) and my husband enjoyed the bread. The service was dismal, though. I ordered a salad and another dish that I was pretty sure would be safe for me, but I wanted to clarify the exact ingredients with the waiter. I asked him if he could please write down my allergies and share them with the kitchen. He initially refused and told me everything was under control. I then asked him again to write them down and he obliged, but seemed pretty irritated that I was even requesting this. In the end, he got it right, but it took a while for everything to come out. Everyone agreed that their food wasn’t really great. And when the check was dropped off, we sat there for a while waiting for it to get picked up, only to finally be told to pay it up front. I hate writing bad reviews, but Mastoris used to be so much better!

We actually started coming here for my grandfather’s funeral party. 11 years later we came for my grandmother’s. I thought it was going to be a mediocre place, but I was wrong… We had a very large party of(very) difficult people. My family can find anything to complain about or not like in a restaurant, we left with no complaints. With the size of the party and the personalities, the staff remained fast and friendly. There is a bar area that my husband and I were able to get a few drinks while we waited for everyone to arrive. The menu is extensive and suited for all tastes. My husband got a turkey pita wrap with fries and I got eggplant with shrimp. My broccoli tasted fresh which is very important to me. Everything was delicious. They also serve a cheese and a cinnamon bread-like pastry with your meal that we ended up buying 3 large loaves to take home! 4⁄5 stars only because I thought my drinks were a little weak other than that it was fantastic.

I remember this diner from way Back and I used to just love it for the quality of food that it had and the excellent quintessentially New Jersey diner atmosphere and experience. But it’s different now. Thankfully the cinnamon rolls slathered in butter hasn’t changed. But the service was this joint it and it wasn’t even a large party. This included spilled items by the waiter. Well maybe he was just having a bad night. The turkey club that I had was not remarkable. The sandwich was filled with very nicely carved white turkey breast meat with tomatoes and lettuce that were not the freshest. The crab bread would be so much bette if lump crab was used instead of packaged red-dyed crab Meat. The egg salad sandwich consisted of sliced boiled eggs on a bed of lettuce with mayo on the bread and globs pick relish. A deconstructed egg salad sandwich to say the least. I had never seen such a thing, I summoned the manager and made a new order. My fries came out cold. Love that there is parking a plenty but I think they need more handicap spaces. The bathrooms need to be better attended to as well. The smell of the bakery as you enter the premises is lovely. We ordered some mini cupcakes and they were unremarkable with an excess amount of decorations. Sometimes nostalgia tastes much better.

Was he food good? Yeah it was good, but do I want to go back every week… No. The servers play the fake Italian game, and that annoys me to death. Be who you are and don’t think that we are stupid. The AC was so cold I had to get a jacket out of my car to be able to eat. When we arrived I was happy to be seated immediately without reservation. We were in the Martors Lounge. It is a large dark room without window and with TVs at the bar and screens on each table. Our waiter was polite and nice, but a bit pushy. I took a burger and my friend the special prime ribs. Mine was okay, neither good nor bad, but I was so hungry I could have eaten anything. My friend’s prime ribs was a giant portion. We brought half of it back. We didn’t take desert and yet our bill over 60 bucks. Pricey for the neighborhood I think. On our way out we bought cookies at the bakery and they are quite good, but not cheap. This type of establishment is the place family go for their all type of celebrations. The only thing that really impressed me was the bill.
