Excellent sushi, always fresh and delicious! Chef specialty rolls never disappoint, especially the 214 roll Nice dining area, byob with the convenience of a next door liquor store.

I have been here many times, mostly on Sunday for their brunch special. The food is always good and high quality. I heard recently that they stopped offering the Brunch on Sundays which is disappointing . I will return Food — very good Atmosphere– Good Service — Average

The food was excellent. The staff are friendly, and actually on point when it comes to clearing the table and such. The green tea is my favorite. :) actually Japanese green tea. Very good to drink after finishing a delicious meal. The price is fairly priced for what you get in quantity and quality. Definitely worth going again.

I can’t get enough of this place! The food is absolutely delicious, so fresh and prepared quickly! I came here on a Saturday evening with a friend and we were seated right away. The place wasn’t crowded when we got there, but it became pretty crowded while we were there. There were a lot of people in the back of the restaurant waiting for tables. My friend and I brought our own bottles of wine since it is BYOB. I also ordered a sweetened iced tea to have with my meal. I ordered the Japanese Fried Rice with Chicken and it was so delicious, I couldn’t get enough! It was a little bland, but when I added soy sauce, the flavors really popped! My meal also came with a side salad and Miso soup. I couldn’t finish all my rice, so I ended up taking some home, but enjoyed it the next day. My friend ordered the steak and shrimp entrée, which looked delicious. I am not a seafood person, but I tried some of her steak and it was flavorful and cooked exactly the way she ordered it. For dessert, we ordered the Exotic Bomba, which is mango, passion fruit and raspberry sorbet, covered in white chocolate shell that had a chocolate drizzle on it. The dessert was refreshing and tasty, a great option after a filling meal. The food was so good that I went back a few nights after and ordered the same meal(the Japanese Fried Rice with Chicken) for takeout!

This is my favorite neighborhood sushi place. Their sushi is always fresh. On my last visit I had the tuna tartar appetizer over wasabi sauce topped with caviar which was to die for. I then had the sushi sashimi combo, which never disappoints. Service is alway great too. Just be sure to make reservations if you’re going on the weekends otherwise, expect to wait for a table. And don’t forget to byob!

Overhyped reviews. This place does not cater to the Asian palate. Won’t be going back. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.

NYC sushi never disappoints and I would say this is one of the closest Japanese restaurants that gets there sushi cuts thin and sushi is fresh!

The atmosphere is nice and it’s byob. All you can eat is only on Sundays. The menu offers plenty of sushi as well as prepared dishes from the kitchen. Rolls were good but we have had better.

Just ok. I liked the huge private-ish booths but was not impressed with the sushi. The«chef’s special sauce»(apparently just some kind of mayo) was on nearly every roll, even those that did not include any mention of it in the description. As an extreme mayo-hater(and yes, many of us exist), I found this quite unappetizing. The sushi pizza was also drowning in it which was so unnecessary because otherwise this would have been a very tasty and inventive dish. I did my best to scrape it all off but there was so much on everything. The edamame and sashimi were my saving grace from walking away hungry from a $ 70 lunch. Edamame was fine, hard to mess that up. The sashimi seemed fresh enough but it was all pretty bland so nothing I’d return for. Service was fine but slowwww getting the check. We were there at a very off time for a late lunch just before the early dinner crowd, so I can let that slide once. I was hoping to be more impressed by our closest sushi place. I would be willing to give it another shot now that I know to ask for no chef’s special sauce on anything, but I will try all the other local sushi spots before coming back here.

One of the best Sushi places around in NJ. They have special rolls that you would never see anyplace. Very classy nice place inside with a very friendly staff. Good thing I dont live in the area or I would be here at least once or twice a week.

(this is my 5th time and 1st review) This has to be one of the best sushi house in the area, worth the drive from JC or Hoboken. The price, taste and service is great. Hint: Sushi house is a BYOB ! HINT: There is a store next door(it doesn’t look like a liquor store) it carries several options of wine(cold or hot and if you ask, they will put the bottle in their freezer). They also carry hard stuff to help open up a conversation at any table. ** the oyster is a must. It has a citrus spicy juice sauce which brings out the oyster flavor Hint: Fridays /weekends can be busy so i suggest making a reservation. However, if you don’t, its worth the wait. and or you can sit at the sushi bar table in-front of the chefs(Itamae) and watch them prepare their magic. the menu has a lot of choices but have no fear everything i have tasted is great and fresh. they also have small booths on the side to be able to bring a date to enjoy a private –ish dinner with a great sake or wine. enjoy

Met up with a girlfriend here for dinner and some chit chat and was pleased. The dimly lit restaurant is cozy and good for a date even. It’s byob as well and all the tables have a small candle or flower in a glass vase. It’s cute. I think it’s best to make reservations as this place gets packed since it’s pretty well known amongst locals for decent Japanese fare. My waitress was nice, the place was clean. The menu was pretty large, and I wished there were more descriptions of each item, especially for those who are new to sushi. The shrimp tempura is to die for! It’s so crispy and juicy and light! Sushi was great too. Can’t wait to go back!

Fantastic place to grab a bite to eat especially on Sunday. All you can eat appetizers and sushi for $ 23 only! Convenient parking in the back and spacious eating arrangements. Con: staff can be a bit happier or friendlier; if you’re below the age of 30 you’ll get looked at as a «zero tip giver» to the staff.

5 stars — Food 2 – 3 stars — Service So, the hubby and I have been here twice so far(both times for dinner). Based on Unilocal reviews, we called to make reservations prior to leaving our home. The first time we tried coming they told us the wait would be a couple of hours, so we called back to inquire about availability the next night and were able to get a reservation easily. So, the lesson of the story, make reservations and don’t wait until the day of. This is mostly relevant for Friday and Saturday nights, but I might just stick with this every time we go to be on the safe side. With reservations, they seat you fairly promptly. The food is a very good quality. I’ve had the Miso Soup, Edamame, Shrimp Shumai, California Roll, Shrimp Avocado Roll, and Salmon Roll. I enjoyed all them. In addition to what I ate, my husband has also had the Spicy Tuna Roll and another roll that is slipping my mind. He wasn’t too impressed with the Spicy Tuna Roll though. While we both really enjoy the food here, we’re not too impressed with the service. They have several waitresses milling about the restaurant, but it’s extremely difficult to get one of them to come over to assist you. Our drink order was taken immediately both times, but It took a while to get them to come back to take our food orders. The appetizers(Miso Soup, Edamame, Shrimp Shumai) come out fairly quickly(within 10 minutes or so). But after finishing those off, we were sitting at the table a good 30 minutes before our sushi arrived. On the first occasion, we were able to get the attention of our server to inquire about our sushi, but it still took forever. On the second visit, we weren’t able to track down any servers. I’ve never worked in the food service industry, but I thought it was pretty standard to check in with your customers to see how they are doing and if they need anything. This just did not happen. So, while the food is very good, the service is very mediocre. We’ll probably go back again because the food is a good quality. Be prepared to be seated at your table for at least 2 hours. P. S. in addition to street parking, there is a parking lot behind the restaurant.

Aki has a nice atmosphere — not fancy but comfortable and attractive. This place varies depending on what you order. Sushi is fresh and consistent. Staff is super friendly. A definite plus, is the price with most of the sushi being under $ 10. Overall, very decent Japanese food at good prices.

This is our go to place for sushi. The sushi is always fresh(especially their salmon), they have a lot of choices for rolls, and their service is always great and friendly. We usually have our set rolls — choosing off the Chef’s Special Menu(best friend, precious, chef, splendid, and the list goes on) that we order and share the veggie yaki udon. We also tried their chicken hibachi which was delicious.

Aki is one of my preferred go to sushi spots in north jers. I’ve been coming here for years for either take out or sit down dinners and have yet to be disappointed. The ambiance is nice. Nothing super fancy but definitely nicer than your average sushi joint. I always enjoy the large booths on the side of the wall of possible bc they have a bit of a private feel versus the middle of the dining room seating. Service has always been very speedy for me. They have a good system worked out it seems where all the waitresses work together delivering dishes as they come out even if it’s not for their own tables. You’ll see when you go that the place gets pretty mobbed on a weekend night so the name of the game seems to be get the food out quickly. My go to roll is the Honolulu roll. I always say I’m going to try something new bc the menu is quite extensive but I usually have a hard time peeling myself away from my preferred specialty roll. Try it yourself and you’ll understand my struggle. I usually start with a seaweed salad which is a nice size portion and always tasty. Sometimes when I feel ambitious, I’ll do a couple pieces of sashimi as well. Anything and everything I’ve had there always tastes fresh to me. In this regard, it is my most trusted sushi restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Not cheap but not crazy either. Hey people, you want cheap sushi? You’ll probably get what you pay for and I’m going to venture to say that it probably won’t be pleasant. The fact that it’s BYOB is another big plus. If you forget the wine or sake there’s a liquor store right next door. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation on a weekend night. By 630, Aki is pretty packed. To all my sushi lovers that haven’t tried Aki, do yourself the favor and stop here. You’re welcome in advance.

Stopped in Saturday for lunch. In regards to customer service, things have changed for the better. I was escorted to a table next to a nice sunny window. The server came over to greet me. Also, I was served green tea. Shortly after, the manager came over to greet and chat with me. The server had taken my order of miso soup and the Mango tuna special roll. The miso soup was very good. Not the least bit salty. The mango tuna special role was excellent. The tuna was extremely fresh. This Chef special roll was $ 13.00. Several times, the server and the manager came over to chat with me. For dessert, I ordered the Exotic Bomba Dessert. The dessert consisted of mango and passionfruit sorbetto covered by a delicious white chocolate shell and drizzled with chocolate. The dessert was six dollars. It was definitely well worth it. Just to mention, the restaurant has a back private parking lot and also street parking is available. My overall experience at Aki was excellent.
