Went there today. There was no line and 3 people working. One of them said«I’ll be right there with you» when I was ready to take my order. 6 minutes later, while the 3 were chatting and singing right in front of me, I walked out.

Came here based on Unilocal reviews. I asked one of the fellows making sandwiches what his favorite was, and he told me The Connector, so I got that on Dutch crunch with everything except onions. I had intentions of only eating half and saving the rest, but I could not stop. Great sandwich!

25 mins for a sandwich really? Came in here there was only one other person in line. I paid for my sandwich and waited right in front. As I’m waiting the cashier tells me it will be a few minutes and please don’t stand there. I look around and there’s no where to sit because there’s 5 people at each table and no one is eating. I ask him if he can ask one of the tables to leave and he says no. So I continue to stand there cause there is no where else to stand and now there is a line. 10 minutes pass and I ask the same cashier where my sandwich as I see people who came in after me got there sandwiches. He says again a few minutes. Another 5 minutes pass and I ask him again and he says be patient takes a few minutes to make. Finally after a few more minutes my sandwich is finally ready. Another guy finally yells my name. I asked him what took so long he says he doesn’t know he just makes them in the order he gets them. So the cashier tells me to wait and got mad cause I asked him to clear a table? Then puts my order on the bottom so I have to wait longer? What kind of childish behavior is that? Just like the other reviewers these kids who run this place have no clue. If you don’t want people standing right there in the front ask people to leave after they finish eating. The food was actually pretty good but the service and attitude was just terrible. Probably give this place another shot in a few years if they make it that long, but from my estimation with poor service and bad attitudes they won’t make it that long.

I usually have decent experience here. the sandwiches are good at their prices. However, today i was extremely disappointed with their customer service. i work at a café that makes sandwiches to order and know that it is not difficult to make a sandwich in a short amount of time. given the busyness of the shop, i expected my sandwich to take no longer than 10 minutes, which is reasonable. i put in my order at 12:55, and there were 4 orders behind me. one by one, the orders behind me were receiving their sandwiches while i was still waiting for my order. at 1:14, i asked about my sandwich after seeing how 4 people after me got their orders. i even saw another worker talk to a friend that JUST walked in and started working on his sandwich when y’all havent even touched my order. so then i proceeded to ask a worker where my sandwich was since they just started working on other sandwiches which clearly wasnt mine. He then said«did you put your order in the box?» Like dude, I gave your worker my damn order sheet and already paid, so it’s not my responsibility to take care of what happens after. Then the workers went on to say«we might have lost your order sheet» only to find my sheet in the sandwich line and no worker started working on my sandwich. then the worker said«oh sorry about that i’ll start on your sandwich right now.» Like that’s going to make everything better? Just making my sandwich right now after waiting this whole damn time without any kind of compensation? i am a busy college student, and i came to this restaurant thinking i would get a quick meal. Instead, i had to wait longer and didn’t even receive any type of remorse from the workers. Now i have to waste more time writing this long review about my TERRIBLE experience. But i hope that people will know that they can expect CRAPPY service from this restaurant.

I placed my order a few weeks ago; to my surprise, they forgot about my order and went on to serve other customers after me. They did not check on me. They did not do anything to compensate me for the extra 30 minutes I waited. Definitely will not come back.

I’d really like to shout out to the manager there, who goes above and beyond to make sure people have a good experience, and good service. Sandwiches are really awesome too!

It’s a upgraded version of Subway. I like these self-made sandwich spots because I have so many options and enough freedom to get something I’d like for sure. The portion is big, actually enough for two girls to share if you are not starving… They have so many kinds of bread to choose from, which is what I like the most. And I love the Crunchy ones. Got and redeemed a check in coupon for a free chocolate cookie! Great :)

I ordered the the Benson(turkey, avocado, bomb sauce, and cream cheese) sandwich here and it was rather underwhelming — the«bomb sauce» just didn’t match up to my love for Montague’s special sauce, and the meat to bread ratio was a little off for me. I was actually really excited about coming here since my friend would not stop talking about how good this place is, but Montague’s still remains my go-to sandwich spot in Berkeley. I also checked-in to here on Unilocal excited for my free chocolate chip cookie only to find that they had already run out of cookies… even though they had only been open for an hour :(

Their sandwiches are awesome! I decided to check this place out because I was visiting my friend who goes to UC Berkeley. When you get in, You write down your order and customize it how you want on these papers with all the options on them. Then you hand it to the cashier and pay, so it’s really simple. I ordered the Shattuck express which is basically a veggie sandwich with avocado and cheese. It’s amazing! I ordered it on the Dutch Crunch Roll which is a super soft bread with a crunchy outside. You seriously can’t go wrong with the Dutch crunch roll. Also, If you check in on Unilocal you get a free cookie which is so delicious. The staff was super friendly and helpful when I was curious about some of their sauces. If you’re in the area and craving a sandwich, then trust me this is the place for you. You can add chips and a drink for only $ 2.00!

Love the concept, not sure about the sandwiches. If you like inventive sandwiches, The Sandwich Spot is your place. Want Flamin’ Hot Cheetos or Cool Ranch Doritos in your sandwich? The Sandwich Spot has you covered. In concept, this all sounds interesting. My boyfriend loves their sandwiches, and would surely give them 5 stars. I’ve always been picky about my sandwiches. Although the few that I’ve tried have been decent, I’m willing to try one more time to find the sandwich that will boost my rating to 5 stars. On a side note, the Cool Ranch Doritos on my sandwich tasted a little stale/soggy, but that might have been because I took it to-go.

This is my all-time very favorite sandwich spot. This blows any and all chain sandwich shops out of the hemisphere. NOJOKE. This spot caters to the Cal students so the it’s very casual with 2 big screens to watch games and very affordable. The portion of the sandwich is precarious… if you order the half, you will wish you would have ordered a whole sandwich. If you order the whole sandwich, you will get full about 2⁄3 of the way through and look at the remaining 1/3, shake your head and take one for the team and finish it because it tastes so good. Walk up to the counter and fill out the order slip so you can customize your sandwich to your liking. ALWAYS ask for the bomb sauce — it’s a creamy, garlicky sauce which adds the perfect dimension to your sandwich, unlike any other. Everything is fresh here, including the bread and they do not use cold cuts. We’re talking hot turkey, chicken, pastrami… you get the picture. My go-to’s are the Dick Hennessy and the Connector: Dick Hennessy: hot turkey, prosciutto, avocado, veggies, pepper jack cheese(my cheese of choice), bomb sauce and the works on a sweet or sourdough roll Connector: hot chicken with hot sauce, pepper jack cheese, veggies, the works, bomb sauce on sourdough Check in on Unilocal and you’ll get a free chocolate chip cookie. The cookie will surprise you — it’s not what you expect from a sandwich shop. Cookies are crispy on the edges but gooey and soft on the inside — perfect!

I got the Benson — unfortunately they ran out of dutch crunch so I opted for the sourdough bread. The sandwich is packed with meat! The veggies were all very fresh and the flavor melted together nicely. Love the huge chunks of avocado! The bread was a bit tougher than I like, so I’ll have to try some other bread instead. Don’t leave it out for too long, I ate it 10 minutes afterwards, and the sauce was leaking out into the foil, so it will get soggy if you leave it out for too long. No one likes a soggy sandwich!

Confusing and time wasting ordering method. Although it wasn’t super busy, I waited 30 mins for a veggie sandwich!!! My husband waited 45 mins and only and after asking what was going on he was told his name was called when it clearly wasn’t, after all, he does know his name and was standing in front of the kid yelling out a name for someone who never showed. After all that, the sandwich had gristle, which immediately turns you off… I ordered extra cranberry on mine and it was barely scraped on there. I didnt expect it to be toasted when it was on fresh sourdough bread, unless its not fresh, that would explain it. And worst of all I am a vegetarian and the underside of my sandwich was covered in pieces of chicken/turkey… Gross. When my husband told them they had a shitty attitude about it and didnt offer to make it up in any way. Nope…

As you can tell from my 20+ check-ins at The Sandwich Spot, it was my go-to sandwich place in Berkeley. I would always order the Benson with additional jalapenos(for free) and my sandwich would cost around $ 8. I am using the past tense, because after the latest increase in prices, I’m not sure if I’ll be back soon. I went to Sandwich Spot last week to get my usual sandwich, and I noticed that they upped their prices. I understand that rent in Downtown Berkeley is expensive, so I thought I’d be able to overlook the new price. However, when I went to check the box for jalapenos on the list of ingredients, I noticed that they are charging 99 cents for jalapenos. You’ve gotta be kidding me! Pickled jalapenos are super cheap. I can understand charging more for avocado and cream cheese, but up-charging for jalapenos is just ridiculous. My spice-free sandwich ended up costing around $ 9.50 and was pretty underwhelming. I’m sure I’ll come back and get a sandwich eventually(maybe once every couple of months), but with the new prices, this place is no longer on my list of regular lunch restaurants.

Sandwich Spot is a solid place to get a quick bite if you are in Downtown Berkeley. They have all sorts of meat including: deli meats(salami, pastrami, roast beef, turkey, etc.), chicken, meatball. So in Sandwich Spot you definitely can find an item you like. They have their own signature sandwiches, and you can also build your own sandwiches. I think their most famous signature items are: Tom Slick(hot roast beef, bomb sauce and cream cheese), Benson(hot turkey, avocado, and cream cheese), Diplomat(hot roast beef and BBQ sauce, and cream cheese). All you need to do is fill out your order on a piece of paper that they give you, and then they will make it for you. Their service is relatively fast, and people who work here are quite friendly. I’ve tried Benson(hot turkey and avocado), and Golden Bear(chicken, bacon, avocado). My favorite sandwich here is probably the Golden Bear. One thing that I like in this place is that you can ask them to make your sandwich warm which is nice since some places in Berkeley don’t do that. However, in Sandwich Spot you probably won’t get best sandwich in Berkeley, but their sandwiches are OK flavor wise, and they are full of meat, so I think they are worth the price. Why am I giving this place a 3-star? It’s mostly because I got lost with the amount of random flavors that were in their sandwiches, and didn’t really like the flavor of their sauce, and the avocados in my Golden Bear sandwich were way too mushy. Although I see many users suggesting trying their dutch crunch, I found that their dutch crunch to be a bit too soft and not crunchy at all.

The dutch crunch is definitely the bread of choice. Not just mine, but should be yours too — crisp perfection crust and melt in your mouth fluffy bread on the inside. I also recommend any sandwich with cranberry sauce; it adds the perfect amount of sweet to the savory flavor of their sandwiches. I made my own turkey with cranberry sauce added for .99, and my friend had the Tarzan. The Benson with cream cheese was also a surprisingly good combination of interesting ingredients! Sad that I forgot to check in for the cookie, but will definitely be back again soon!

To say that I liked Sandwich Spot would be an understatement. I LOVE this particular sandwich shop, and it probably hands down is my favorite sandwich joint I’ve had the pleasure of going to in Berkeley. I’ve had my fair share of chain sandwich shops in the past, and I never got what the big whoop would be over sandwiches. I mean, how good could sandwiches really get, right? Prepare to have that ideology thrown off you once you come give this place a shot. Ordering at first confused me, so what happens is you’re directed to the back, where they’ll be the chalkboard of the entire menu, but also a little slip of paper that details the entire menu. Flip it over and you can find the secret menu(you’re welcome, I’ve always been confused too). Fill it out and turn it into one of the workers, or just order it off the menu if you already know what you want or you’re feeling bold. When they finish making it they ring you up at the cashier. Workers here have always been continually pleasant and friendly, and the atmosphere is really inviting. Sandwiches here are super filling, and you definitely get your money’s worth here. It definitely beats out any old chain Subway or Quiznos hands down anyday. Sandwich quality is AMAZING, and I’ll admit, I was never really a huge sandwich advocate or fan before. Every sandwich I’ve gotton here never fails to fill me up before I leave. Sandwiches I’ve gotton before– Lately I’ve been on a vegetarian kick, so when I have the opportunity to get something vegetarian I gravitate towards it while I can. The #10 Shattuck Express is amazing. Paired with the Dutch Crunch bread, which is toasted and crispy on the outside, but soft and moist on the inside, it’s simple perfection. The mixture of tomatoes, onions, peppers, cucumber, avacado, and cheese just blend together wonderfully. Paired with pepper jack cheese, the small kick of spice pairs beautifully with the entire sandwich. In the past I’ve had the #6 Tom Slick as well. Sandwich comes warm, and the meat is super fresh. Cream cheese was kinda overwhelming because there was a lot of sauce but still an overall very good sandwich, and would recommend. I think one way you can determine if a sandwich shop is really good is by the quality of the product inside, and that meat is a solid hit. Definitely not that cheap deli meat you find at any meat mart. Quality of the other products(cheese, bread, vegtables) is solid too. Salad is okay. Nothing to write home about, but I could have done without it. Meh. Oh, and make sure to ask for that bomb sauce on your sandwiches. Perfect garlicky perfection. It’s pretty much universally great with everything, so why not, right? And checking in for that Free Cookie never hurt anybody, right? Cookie is a little dry for my taste, but the chocolate is oh so gooey and oh so right. And it’s a pretty big cookie too, so no complaints here! A definite try if you ever want a quick lunch you want to take to go or if you wanna take a break from your boring old sandwich lunches!

5 stars because I really can’t find anything wrong with it. This place is a lot like Ike’s, which I’m happy about since I love Ike’s but they don’t have a location in Berkeley. Compared to other sandwich spots in the area this place is a little nicer. Its a new and clean space inside with a good amount of seating, although it gets busy around the lunchtime rush from the Berkeley High kids. You can do a custom sandwich by filling out your order card, or order one of their signature sandwiches, which I recommend. The signature sandwiches are in the $ 7 – 8 range, which is the upper end of what I’m willing to pay for a sandwich, but I still feel like I got my money’s worth. Its hearty, not skimpy by any means. I’ve typically got a big appetite and this filled me up. I got the Benson, which has hot turkey, avocado, «bomb sauce» and cream cheese. Cream cheese on a sandwich of this type was a new concept to me, but I was pleasantly surprised. No clue what the bomb sauce is, but this sandwich really works. The dutch crunch roll was excellent, it tasted fresh and had just the right amount of «crunch». Hot meat is also great, to me that’s what makes a sandwich feel more like a meal rather than a snack. I’ll be back when I’m on Shattuck and in the mood for a bomb sandwich.

I thought I should try this place because of all the good Unilocal reviews! I got the Tom slick. Pros: –the sandwich is warm –Dutch crunch bread is really good here. The bread here is really fresh, not stale. And it’s not overwhelming like at other places –good size! Fresh ingredients Cons: –messy to eat –way too much sauce! It’s kinda overkill for me and also makes it difficult to eat. –a lot of flies here… yuck! Verdict: Would come here again. The sandwiches taste great and fresh. They put too much sauce though, but it’s also more flavorful than montague’s. If you want something light, this is not the place to go. The cream cheese and mustard were a little overwhelming. Recommend it though!

I came here right before closing, around 5:30PM and it was still busy! I would say this place makes better sandwiches than Montague’s on south side. They have a variety of sandwiches but you can also create your own too. What makes this place special? FRESH bread. No, they do not give you stale bread that has been sitting out all day like most sandwich shops, their bread is fresh! They were also able to heat the meat for me because I wanted a warm sandwich. The garlic spread they add just makes the sandwich perfect.
