Very nice family owned sandwich place in downtown Berkeley. They use fresh ingredients and nicely priced. Chipotle Dagwood, Green giant and the veggie sandwich are my favorites.

Had an order of the Deluxe Veggie(Avocado) Sandwich(~$ 6): Avocado, spring mix, tomato, red onions, cucumber, red bell pepper, sprouts and provolone & pepper jack on multigrain. Food was delicious, staff was expedient, and the ambiance was logistic.

The value on my cost-worthy vegetarian sandwich is a drawback from the original days in organoh history. I was treated with respect. The menu is full and clustered with values. There are tables to sit in: small rectangle long place, but a refuge from glowing lights and white blaring walls. Family styles, local whiles. Just to the«left side» of Bank of America on Shattuck @ Center, aside the cluster bus stops for 51, 7, 65, 57 and 52. Yea.

Food — 4 Service — 4 Value — 5 My mom and I stopped in here based on the Unilocal reviews — I got the Dagwood Chipotle and my mom got the other Dagwood sandwich. I enjoyed mine quite a bit, but she just thought hers was just«ok». This is a good place for a late lunch that won’t leave you too full and will allow you to still eat dinner at a normal time.

These sandwiches have a special X factor that cannot be replicated at home. Sure, they use store-brought sliced bread and what seems to be off the shelf ingredients. But, there is something unique and special about the ratio and seasoning that makes their sandwiches so good — it’s like they have it down to a science. I have never had a bad sandwich at the sandwich zone. I especially recommend the Chipotle Dagwood or the Green Giant(which surprisingly is not that big of a sandwich).

It’s decent. You can get a decent Veggie Deluxe for $ 5.50, but the lack of sauces/spices puts it on the blander side, and it’s not customizable with additions, besides the bread. Sandwich Spot’s equivalent, the Shattuck Express, for $ 1.50 more is about 40% more massive both due to larger roll size and larger quantity/packing density of contents. And then there’s the flavor and customization: they have the sauces, dressings, jalapeños, etc. you can add for free.

I had the Dagwood with no onions on Dutch Crunch. This place is just okay. The Dagwood is probably your best bet since the avocado and bacon pair so well. The meal filled me up for hours, which is so necessary during crunch time. But I know other sandwich stores that can do the same at comparable prices. Overall, this place is not the«best» or life-changing as other reviewers are making it out to be.

Surprisingly good. Not overwhelmingly large. I love the texture and taste of the bread on the Chipotle Dagwood and the avocado in the sandwich. The chipotle sauce is deliciously tangy, and the sandwich is warm and well-made in general.

Best quick sandwich in Berkeley. Good prices, fast service, good/consistent quality food & friendly, wonderful people. I suggest the green giant sandwich. Oh fabulous!

Tasty lunch sandwiches to go. I really enjoyed their Chipotle Dagwood sandwich. Turkey, avocado, bacon, cheddar, and chipotle sauce just worked wonderfully. They wrap their sandwiches very nicely, perfect for eating on the go. The sandwiches are not particularly large, but are nicely packed. I also tried their breakfast sandwich, which was not bad, but unmemorable. The restaurant is located at what seems like the perfect place for a café, with a nice upstairs sitting area. Unfortunately, it is crammed with boxes, so it is best to just get your food to go. They also close surprisingly early, so I can never catch them for dinner. My recommendation, try the Chipotle Dagwood.

Cheap. Fast. Lots of seating(upstairs). The owners and employees are pleasant. The sandwiches are all good, but not great. With the exception of too-cheap-to-pass-up cookies, I wouldn’t bother with the baked goods. If you’re ordering extras on your sandwich, ensure that they sandwich preparer hears you, not just the cashier.

Ah, the Sandwich Zone. I have stopped here many times for either a bottled water or a bag of chips on the way home, in-between classes at Berkeley City College, or before heading to classes over the hill to UC Berkeley. Sometimes both a bag of chips and bottled water. This past summer semester, I got the opportunity to have sandwiches here to takeaway to chow down on before rushing off to Cal.(Fiat Lux! Go Bears!) I have had the roast beef sandwiches so far here at the Sandwich Zone. Rare roast beef, Swiss Cheese, onion, lettuce, tomato, light mayonnaise, and light Dijon mustard is my litmus test. I am delighted to report Sandwich Zone passed the my litmus test! I like the method of ordering sandwiches here. You take an order form and pencil, choose the bread, meat, and condiments, and give the order form to the cashier at the till who will go over the order form before ringing up the price. You are given a number and when the sandwich is ready, your number is called and you go claim your sandwich. Easy peasy. You’re good to go whether you decide to takeaway or eat in – I do agree with the other reviews that seating is limited here. I do believe this is a family-owned and operated business. The owners are very serious and nice at the same time. Their young son rang up my bag of chips in a professional and polite manner beyond his years. Their employees are quite pleasant and friendly. I will have to return to try the other offerings at Sandwich Zone for sure. Wishing you all good eats here. SYOY!

The chipotle dagwood is a solid sandwich and not quite the sizable monstrosity of the sandwich spot across the street(not to besmirch their fine sandwiches, just too large to eat regularly). It’s a good handful still and they’re generous with the bacon. Their chipotle sauce is nice and hot and not too creamy letting its inherent smokiness shine through.

There’s something about sandwich zone that I really love. It has a similar feeling to montagues on south side where the employees are incredibly friendly and I always leave with a smile on my face. Another thing they have in common is that they both have delicious Dutch crunch bread which is by fat the most delicious thing to eat a sandwich on! Sandwich zone has become my new regular spot for several reasons. First, it’s near all of my classes on the west side of campus so it’s my new treat after a long day of work. Second, I prefer the portion sizes here compared to the massive sandwiches at other berkeley eateries. For me they’re the perfect meal, even sometimes between meal, size. I’m always satisfied without feeling stuffed. Finally, you just can’t beat the price. At the time of this review they are using a service called slyde. Because of this I can get a sandwich an drink for just over three dollars… I really don’t know anywhere else where this is possible! This place definitely caters for people taking their food to go so there are only a few small tables. But they’re generally empty do if you really want to eat there you definitely have the option. Tl;dr great food, great price, great service. I am definitely a fan of this hidden shattuck gem!

I’ve been a frequent customer of sandwich zone since they first opened a few years back. I usually get their cold sandwiches or grab a bagel in the morning. They are definitely catered to students as their prices are fairly low $ 5.50 for sandwich, chips and drink. Bagels are about $ 2. Putting in an order is simple. when you walk in the door, there’s a jar of pencils and smells sheets of paper with the menu on it. Circle what you want and bring it up to the register where they’ll ring you up. You’ll need to buy at least $ 5 worth for debit/credit otherwise you have to pay cash. Love their pastrami, tuna salad and roast beef. I docked one star as their sandwiches have shrunk dramatically since they opened.

I revise my previous opinions. I had a chicken salad on Dutch Crunch and it was insanely good. And it was only $ 4. This is now going to be new go to lunch spot.

I got a chocolate croissant for breakfast. What a mistake. The croissant was not flakey nor buttery. It was a puffed dough, that mimic a croissant. The texture was unappealing for what I expected. I do want to try one of the sandwiches, as that is what they are named for. Getting a breakfast pastry is a sure NO from here. I have to wonder which bakery/wholesale they get the croissant from. Shudder…

Cheap, healthy, fast. When you walk in, there’s a standard custom sandwich order form(like the kind they give you at Ramona’s on campus) that you can fill out while waiting for the register. Or you can just order off the menu board, both works. There’s a 50 cent charge for using credit or debit for purchases under $ 5, so watch out for that. If you’re buying a standard cold cut sandwich for $ 3.99, grab a candy bar for $ 1(or just bring cash — BoA’s next door!) Similar to sandwiches from Cheese N Stuff, Golden Bear Café, and Pat Browns.
