We use to go to Sutherland’s a lot but the customer service has gone down hill in the past year or so. The checkouts use to have friendly people who cared about the customer but lately the dark haired young woman working there spends more time talking to others than the person she’s waiting on. I also observed her not helping a man fumble with his items trying to re-bag them. We have 2 Lowe’s stores in this area so we’ll drive a little further to get better service and prices.

I ONLYGIVETHISPLACEONESTARFORTHETWOFAIRLYNEWYOUNGMENANDONECASHIERGIRLWHOARENICEANDRESPECTFULANDDON’T BELONGWITHTHERESTOFTHESTAFF… I live Really close to this store and always tell myself I won’t ever step foot in it again. The management has never treated the customers with the respect that a store(of any kind) should. If you ask them a question they almost NEVER make eye contact with you. I wished I could say it is only a few Supervisors that have total disrespect for the public but it is ALL of them. These Employees have worked there for years, and would be instantly fired anywhere else. They make you feel like you’re bothering them and they would rather watch you die than to get up and help you locate anything. I asked before buying a few fasteners if I could return them if the I didn’t use them. The Main man in charge told me «YES» without ever looking up from his computer. When I took them back, receipt in hand and unopened, an Older woman informed me they were discounted and unreturnable. I attempted to explain to her what he told me and she informed me «they were not in the business to accept discounted items back.» Then when I asked if there was a sign stating that, she ignored me and told the gentleman in line behind me that I was done and needed to move. I left the store and outside the man who said I COULD return them was in his vehicle(Windows up) and unresponsive to me when I asked him for assistance. Unfortunately I and many friends have dealt with this stuff every time we attempt to shop there. THISWILLBETHELASTFORME! If you are interested in being looked down upon and treated as an ignorant waste of space, then this place is the Best one to shop at.

I bought a key light and opened it. It didn’t work so I immediately told them. They made me stand in a return line to return the light and exchange it for one that worked. This is THEWORSTCUSTOMERSERVICE!

I always joke that I’ve kept this place in business the last 6 years, but seriously, they’ve been a badly needed resource during times of immediate construction needs. I still buy all of my lumber and such at the big box stores, but Sutherlands is like the 7 – 11 of hxw stores — sometimes I don’t need to go to the grocery store when I just need a loaf of bread. I go when I need to, I can usually find what I need, but the large retail places(who are stomping out the small competitors like Sutherlands, mind you) will always have a broader selection. I find the staff to be quite helpful, but I actually prefer to be left alone most of the time anyway, so their lack of attentiveness suits me well. Overall, Sutherlands is awesome for what it is. I get in, I get out, people don’t bug me, and they help me get the job done. In fact I’m on my way there now to get some hardware that HD has been out of since last week. I recommend this place, if not only to stick it to the Big Business — big box stores!

I have lived in the neighborhood for since 1998. I still hate shopping at this place. I go because it’s close. However, I think I’ll drive to Home Depot or Lowe’s next time. The employees here don’t go out of their way to help many.
