I LOOOOVEEE Mandarin Delight! The staff are amazing. Their Subgum Wonton soup is to die for. Great broth, full of shrimp, beef, chicken, tons of veggies. Their large order of soup lasts me two meals it’s so big. I also cannot rave enough about their Crispy Beef. I am totally addicted! It says spicy on the menu but you can get it mild. I’m not really a fan of spicy and I think the flavor is great. So crispy and melt in your mouth delicious. We live close by so we always pick up food, but they deliver as well. I believe they have a $ 12 min. delivery, which is pretty standard for Chinese food around this area.

Ok so this was an awesome Unilocal suggestion! The food is good… Like really good! Fresh, favorable, not too salty and the portions are good. I would totally recommend this restaurant for Chinese delivery before any others in the neighborhood. I’ve now dined here a few times and this place is my favorite! They also have large and small sizes and the small sized dishes are great for kids. My recommendations: Shrimp & Chicken with broccoli, chicken and broccoli and chicken lo mein. The service is friendly, delivery is quick and the food is exceptional.

Good Chinese food and sushi and a lot of variety. Great portions for the prices as well. We stopped by on our way to Virginia but we would be regulars if we lived here.

So good! We did take-out and i liked how the dishes were separated so the food wouldn’t mix and be fresh when we sat down to eat. The egg rolls were great and so was the egg drop and wonton soup. The General Tzo’s received compliments as well as the chicken chow mein.

Remember that Chinese place close to where you grew up, where you could get consistently good egg rolls, fried rice, General Tzo’s, and more authentic Chinese dishes if you were so inclined. The place may have looked old inside and out, the scenery was nothing to write home about, but the owner was friendly and professional? Also, the buffet was small enough so that the chef could consistently prepare the same dishes well each day? And they kept on the menu the old-school Americanized-Cantonese dishes that never should have disappeared — MSG included? Well, this is that place — at least for this area of Beltsville and College Park. Every town or suburb in the U.S. had a place like this, until many of them got closed out by the glitzy mega-buffets or take-out clones with the same photos of dishes above the counter in every joint, as if ordained by some committee. Enjoy this place while it lasts.

Mandarin Delight is my local Chinese restaurant, I’ve been eating there for years. The place isn’t much to look at, but the food is always fresh and always delicious. In over a decade of eating at Mandarin Delight I have never once had a meal that tasted like it had sat for half a day, or was cooked the previous day and reheated. The owners are polite and very accommodating for special orders. I have friends with food allergies and they never have a problem making a meal without onion/garlic/soy sauce/etc. Even my friend with celiac can eat there safely. Thank you, Mr. Lee! Also, the serving sizes are huge, especially for the price! You will have leftovers.

A couple of work buddies and I went in here today for the lunch buffet. I read here on Unilocal that for the most part it was pretty good. And it was. Here’s the skinny: From the outside it looks a little sketchy and inside it is outdated. Plastic water cups, old tables, and paper placemats. But your not here to eat the table so moving on. The food was pretty good. Everything was warm or hot. And to be honest the General Tso’s was probably the best I have had. There was no funky pieces of meat like you often find at buffets like this. I got three helpings of it because it was so good. The other meat dishes had vegetables in them which were not overcooked or mushy and overall everything tasted authentic. The lo mein seemed a little dry but I don’t eat it often enough to know how it usually is. The buffet has some neat features you don’t often find such as shrimp toast and a bunch of different sauces for you to try. There were two different sushi rolls sitting out a California and what seemed to be raw salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. Both were simple rolls but they were good. I mean the buffet is only 8 $ so they can’t afford to get too fancy with the sushi. Lastly, dessert. Jello which was normal jelloy jello and some other little things. They have an espresso/coffee mouse chocolate mini cake which was pretty descent and satisfied my sweet tooth. The rest of the desserts weren’t all that. All in all for 8 $ it is a good deal for decent all you can eat Chinese food and the guy working(I am pretty sure he is the owner) kept refilling the food with fresh food and he also was very attentive to our drinks. The cheese wontons were sooo good by the way, I had at least 5 and they are full of filling! Would I go back? Sure.

Take it from a local who has tried a ton of Chinese places from Orlando up to New York: Mandarin Delight is a great place. The restaurant is not dirty, the food is not prepared poorly, the ingredients are fresh and excellent quality. I’m sure there are people with high expectations based on their uptown dining experiences in big cities who won’t be satisfied by good old fashioned mom & pop cuisine, but if you want something that tastes great and doesn’t drain your wallet, this is a fine place. The people there are friendly, the service is quick. Don’t be fooled by how empty it looks, even on what would normally be a busy night – Mandarin Delight does most of its business through takeout and delivery orders. Their biggest crowd is for lunch. As for the people who don’t like it: More for us.

I have been coming here since I was a kid in high school and love it. Mr. Lee and Mimi are so nice and they take care of you. I usually order sushi. Now, the sushi isn’t fancy but it’s good quality and it’s not some itty bitty roll. The dining area is usually empty but like the other lady said, most of their orders are take-out. I usually see the delivery guy come and go several times while I’m eating my meal. I love the lunch buffet! They have 10 – 15 different dishes available, sushi, and dessert for $ 8! Can’t beat that! This is my go-to spot when I’m working and need a good meal and my co-workers usually tag along.

I would like to respond to Tyoko B.‘s review. Mandarin Delight is not dirty. They do have these weird green tiles on the floor that can appear dirty but they are not. I see them mopping the floor frequently. You did not see a lot of people at the restaurant because, except for a lunch crowd, this is mostly a take out restaurant. There is a table at the entrance that has some papers and takeout menus on it. I like that. When I am waiting for my take out I can pick up something to read while I am waiting. I don’t know about any smell I’ve never smelled anything but delicious Chinese food. It’s a shame you were so quick to judge, you missed out on a great meal.

Food sucks. Went with friends. Ordered chicken wings which was old and just heated up. Sea food soup also didn’t taste right. No idea how this place got 4 star. Won’t coming back again.

Next time y’all put the whole bottle of oil in the food please make sure you don’t give it to your costumers. Food tastes horrible!!! I don’t know how can be rated 4 stars.

I decided to check this place out after a couple hours on the road to satisfy my craving for some sushi. The reviews here seemed to be informative and I had a tad bit more than average expectations that this would be a good dining spot just minutes from our hotel. So, I plugged the address in my GPS and we were off… We arrived and all looked OK… from the outside. It’s in a little strip mall, which I read about and I have no problems with that. However, when we walked in the door, the first thing I noticed was the smell! What was that smell? How did it smell? Think rotting fish. Next, I noticed the extremely dirty and sticky floor. After that, the stack of paper mess on the table at the entrance was very unwelcoming. I feel as though if a restaurant owner doesn’t pay attention to these types of small details, how can I trust them to prepare my food with any type of concern for my safety(cleanliness, quality). I peeked around the corner and only saw 2 people eating here on a Saturday evening. That was the last red flag for me. Unilocal normally doesn’t steer me wrong but this time I’m wondering what the hype is all about. Sorry but really… not sorry.

This place is DELISH and inexpensive. My boyfriend and I have ordered from many Chinese restaurants in the area, and none have knocked our socks off. Up until now we have stuck to driving into DC to our favorite spot when we want some Chinese take out. However, we both agree that Mandarin Delight is a very close second in taste to our favorite place, and the fact that they deliver makes them number one for me! We have each had our favorites(so we are comparing the same dishes at each place we order) and they’re spot on. Mine is egg foo young, and his is beef fried rice. I also tried my daughter’s chicken and broccoli and it was excellent. They seem to understand how to customize your dish when you want something added or taken out, without compromising taste.

Okaaaay, I had to give this place 2 stars. All you loyal customers, don’t hate me! Let me explain,… First and foremost, this place offers lunch special deals on a Sunday, which is pretty awesome in my book lol. I’ve ordered delivery from them two times now and must say, they are quite pleasant, friendly, and clear over the phone! I also enjoyed the egg roll. This is what earned them my two stars :) Beyond that, I didn’t really enjoy the food, and the sushi was much less than impressive. I hate to give bad reviews especially with a place that apparently has so many happy customers. I’m not sure why my experience was so different, but,… I am a Maryland transplant and I’ve had MUCH better Chinese food at several other places(mainly in NY) so my expectations for good Chinese food may be a bit different. To summarize my experience here: My first order — The sushi was alright. The crispy eggplant was just breaded eggplant soaked in oil served with a side of very thick and sweet brown sauce with a side of white rice. Not-good. My second order — The egg-roll was very different, but in a good way, it was soft and a bit doughy. Different. The Honey Sesame Chicken was hmmm… not all that. Fried rice was simply that, fried white rice with no veggies or anything and the chicken was well sauced, but wasn’t chicken-y enough, if that makes sense. Like it was over fried or something. The sushi this time was just not good. Plus, it arrived warm. Which is a MAJOR sushi turn-off for me! No, no. All in all, I have to be fair to my ratings on other review and give this place 2:( I’ve had MUCH better.

Little mom and pop place in a nook half a block off US1. Pretty decent Chinese-American, plus a few more ethnic dishes like beef chow foon. Good enough to have been in the neighborhood for years, and many regulars are greeted. Service by mom can get hectic if pop is out on a delivery. Had the lunch buffet today, good value at $ 7.95. Crispy beef was spicy, chicken curry was not. Plenty of filling in the cheese wonton, did not try the egg roll or shrimp toast. Sweet and sour chicken was blah. Hot and sour soup was very nice — good kick, sour was present, plenty of assorted solids(mushroom and pork as well as usual tofu). Did not try the salt-and-pepper shrimp. Standard California roll. Edamame. Bananas and melon as well as the usual orange slices, and some slices of cake. Strong oolong tea. By now you have noticed that it’s a bit beyond the usual buffet fare — nothing spectacular but nothing really bad, and at least a little interesting. Three and a half stars for food, rounding up for value and effort.
