Very bad food. Used to be good but quality has really gone down. Avoid this place definitely

My wife and I had lunch and dinner here very often over the last couple of years. I had written a 4 star review for the place earlier but unfortunately the last 3 visits have been disappointing. I need to dock off a star. Their thalis have gone from authentic, healthy homestyle food to oily greasy veggies that do not belong. I’m not sure if the chef changed or they have started experimenting but I wish they would just go back to the south indian classics that they do so well rather than trying to make paneer, veg kadhai, eggplants and other north indian dishes. In addition to trying to expand the menu, they have also reduced portions and have started charging for measly things like extra sambar and chutney which is just unfortunate attitude. I wish they would just go back to the way they were and serve the authentic classics that remind us all of home. p. s. The samosas and dosas are still great. The thali is what docked them a star.

Prices are not posted on most items. This is illegal in the state of Washington. Every time I ask them why they don’t post prices, they say they are in the process of modernizing. They have been saying this for 4 years. Do not support this deceptive practice until they post prices for items.

I stopped in to buy some spices and was impressed with the the variety, prices and quantity. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Will definitely be back!

Their Samosas are awesome!!! The thali their is also my anytime fix when I am out of house and in a hurry to eat and go. Its good food and value for money! As someone already mentioned Sambhar is ok, they need to improve in its taste a little. Its my anytime go place and last minute savior many times. Update — 11⁄23 — Seems they have changed chef or something, Didn’t like the Thali as much this time. taking off 1 star. 4 stars still worth :)

Poor customer service. Wanted to give rating 0. Also, I have noticed expired products on Swagath Grocery store several times..

Wish I had an option to give zero rating. Most of the Staff members behaves very rude and manner less as if they are servicing food free of cost. Sometimes food is uncooked like vada uttapam and idli. Puri and dosa are dangerous I have had stomach upset almost every time I had. I would rate food 2⁄5 cleanliness 1⁄5 and staff 0⁄5. Please change your behaviors and facial expressions and keep in mind we are paying for the food you serve.

Good place to eat South Indian food with a homely taste. Try the pongal, pesarattu upma and dosas.

Worst indian restaurant I have ever seen… on a Saturday morning we went to have breakfast, the guy who is taking order was so rude and the restaurant entrance was so bad that I feel like I am in slum area. Restaurant people are thinking Desi people will get adjusted to the ambience how ever it looks, their attitude need to be changed. I wonder how this restaurant got approval from inspections, if one could drop going to this restaurant after reading this review my experience gets counted.

Positives first — Good vegetarian fresh food, $$-wise, friendly staff Negatives– not so great ambience, so not a place for formal dinner not a rich menu, limited options Overall, a nice place for those who just don’t feel like preparing food at home sometime and wish to eat out not shelling too much out of pocket.

We used to go here to get grocery but after having some really bad experience we have just completely stopped. I bought coconut a few times and every time it was moldy and rotten on the inside. Every damn time. Then I decided to get some frozen shredded coconut and some frozen vegetables and to my surprise that had gone bad too. I called them out of courtesy to tell them to check their products but the guy hung up on me 3 times after hearing what I had to say. Next time we went in we told the associate about the various times it had happened and he just went«oh ok». Seriously? I can only imagine what the food made in the café(inside the store) would taste like and what practices they might carry on in the kitchen. You should fucken close down if you have mold growing in your food products. Absolutely disgusting.

I didn’t write a review for when I first, well the only time I went here, because it was nothing to write home about. Poor customer service and dirty. Just a few minutes ago I go an email from KCHD saying it’s been re-opened,(don’t know why I didn’t get the closure email)…but sounds like a good idea to me. If the store is dirty for customers to see then what is going on in the kitchen? Here’s what KCHD had to say. «Swagath Food & Groceries located at 14504NE20th St, #101, Bellevue, WA was closed by a Public Health food inspector on May 29, 2014 at 11:30 am for the following food safety violations: Improper cooling of potentially hazardous food Failure to correct repeated violations Imminent health Hazard: unauthorized remodeling that removed the walk-in refrigerator resulting in insufficient refrigeration to safely handle the menu for the deli The store was reopened today, June 3, 2014 at 10:00 am after the inspector confirmed that all issues were resolved.» The Food Establishment Closures homepage is online at
******* As for myself, when I’ve seen a place has been closed down a few times and has repeated violations, I steer clear. As they say, old habits are hard to break… so why take a chance? After all, it is your health and body.

The 3 stars is only for the food. Chopped off the rest 2 for the non-existant ambience, service and general cleanliness of the place. It is a small takeout place attached to the Indian stores. I have found Medu Wada, Dosa and Idlis to be consistently good here. I dont buy anything else and would recommend people to only have these. I once tried Parota Kurma and it was just OK. The medu wadas were totally out of the world, probably the best I have had so far, same for dosas and idlis. Best for a takeout.

Four stars for the small eatery in the back. Best Mysore masala dosa and Pongal in Seattle. Mango lassi rocks but at times may not be as chilled as it should be. Prices are fair, service could be more friendly but they serve good food for a hole in the wall setup.

We came here for lunch… The lunch was good. Rice, 2 veg curries and the dal. I think they should add more dal to the small bowl. It was not enough. I also bought a bag of snacks. After eating it the next day I read the expiration day and it said June… I was eating in July… I did not get sick. But they should check the expiration date on those things that they are selling.

I am giving up my best secret by writing this review. This grocery has a small café tucked away at the back and serves amazing south indian tiffins. Not many know about it! I’ve not had ‘pongal’ this good anywhere outside my parents’ home which is many miles from here. I can vouch for the idli, vada, dosas as well. Best in my opinion! I’ve heard great things about the chole batura, but haven’t tried it myself. They make curries to take home too. Always grab one. They are all super yum.

Good masala dossa. Avoid papri chaat and roti. Their chai quality is very inconsistent.

The eatery shows promise. The food is fresh, very fresh. The chat, while better than the usual suspects on the eastside(read mayuri etc) is by no means good. It is mediocre — I will sill say the drive over the lake to travelers is worth it. The dosa was fresh and the sambhar decent. The coconut chutney was a disappointment. A little more effort and we may finally have a decent Indian chat place on the eastside. However, I worry that as Seagate grows, it may fall as all other quick-eat Indian food places on the eastside. Fingers crossed!

Amazingly afforable authentic indian food. Though they serve only vegetarian food. but still their snacks(dosa, vada) are lip smacking.
