O’Neill Transport in Portland is awesome. I used them for an intercity move a number of years ago, and they were fantastic. I was so pleased with their service that I used them again for a move from Portland to Bellingham. Mine was a big move with time pressure, so my advice for anyone moving is to make sure that all boxes are well marked for where they are supposed to go and that the movers«face» them before depositing them. That advice said, the staff were amazing, helpful, thoughtful, kind and fun to talk to – wonderful, during something so pressured as a move. Out of probably a million and one pieces, only one small item was broken – amazing!!! – and so far as I can tell, nothing lost. The first time around, there were a couple of furniture dings that they took care of by promptly hiring a high quality professional woodworker. This time, a claim was settled quickly for the small item. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

We had very negative experience with this company. We chose this company because they had been in business for many years. Our sales person was professional but when the crew came to move us they were very unprepared to handle the added request we had given the sales man. They did not have wardrobes for our clothing, nor did they have boxes we requested for 4 large mirrors. We had requested full insurance coverage but discovered that they did not give us the coverage and it was too late to add once we were all loaded. We had some damage to a mirror and were missing a box upon arrival at our new destination. They did not cover these items, we were just out of any options. Needless to say we were not happy with our experience.

Pay your money. Take your chances. Never, EVER use O’Neill. Our belongings were entrusted with them for 2 months while we relocated to Silicon Valley from Portland. Our stuff was left on a van the entire time. Upon arrival in California, we were informed by the driver that the van had leaked, letting rain water destroy or damage furniture, rugs, books, and more. A leaking van in?! In Portland?! Additionally, property including a computer, monitor, printer, vacuum cleaner, and tools never arrived and could not be located. A claim totaling nearly $ 17,000 was filed with National Van Lines and we were compensated to the tune of 60 cents per pound. Because we didn’t purchase the extra insurance,(The rep From O’Neill, John, dissuaded us from buying the extra insurance stating that it was«a waste of money.») our compensation total came to $ 865. O’Neill referred all claims to National and washed their hands of us as soon as they were paid in full. This payment had to be made BEFORE they would unload the van at our California residence, before we could inspect our property and inventory our«loss.» National claims to be in the business of «moving your memories» Hire them, and there’s a good chance that’s ALL you’ll have of your stuff.
