I had purchased 2 top of the line Friedrich Kuhl air conditioners last year for my bedrooms and was very happy with my purchase, so this summer I got another larger Kuhl for the living room because the other two were so quiet. I had recommended S&L so that day, my sister and sister-in-law accompanied me and we each purchased a Friedrich Kuhl air conditioner. My sister and sister-in-law have had no problems with their A/C’s. From the start, my new unit was noisy and then stopped working all together in a few days. Jay, who works in the store, was very nice and got authorization to switch units, but when his brother Mark arrived with nephew Paul, they were so angry and rude, muttering about how things are not scheduled the way they should be. Firstly, I did not ask for the unit to be switched that day, so I thought it was very unprofessional that they were so angry about doing their job. Secondly, instead of being careful about removing the air conditioner which had water inside the base, they dragged it and spilled water all over my brand new month old carpet. When I protested, Mark nonchalantly said, «Don’t worry, it’s clean water,» as if it was ok to spill water all over my carpet. Then Paul said, «Sorry, it can’t be helped.» I responded that I knew when they installed my sister’s air conditioner a week ago, she said they had vacuumed the water out of her old unit before removing it. When I mentioned this, there was no response from either Mark or Paul, but it didn’t stop them from dragging the air conditioner and spilling water all over my living room and stair carpet. Then the worst part was that the new unit made the same noise, a boom every time the compressor turned off. When Mark and Paul came back to look at it, they didn’t even try to fix it, basically saying there was nothing they could do about it and that maybe we should try to have Friedrich approve getting next year’s model. When we called Friedrich customer service to report what happened, they were surprised that S&L didn’t even attempt to service the air conditioner. Friedrich then referred us to another service company in Queens. They also informed us that it has to be the authorized service person who reports that the problem cannot be repaired, not the customer! I truly feel that Jay at S&L did his best to provide service, but I have to say that the service people, in our opinion, are just fair weather friends — all smiles when there is no complaint, but not willing to do anything about a problem, acting as if we are being unreasonable. Between 3 members of my family, we bought 5 Friedrich Kuhl air conditioners within a year and only one makes loud noises, so I doubt that we are imagining things. I will never purchase another thing from them or ask them to service any of my air conditioners again.
