Great breakfast food! Friendly staff! Good find on the way through Bastrop. The griddle cake is delicious and Texas sized! The biscuits and gravy are great. The Texas Scramble was awesome! Be prepared to leave full!

So this is what people are talking about when they say Texans are so nice!!! My mom and I prefer local places to chains and after a quick search we settled on Maxine’s. It was so welcoming and the moment you walked in, you knew you were going to get great food. We were seated immediately and they got our drinks fast. We ordered the fried green tomatoes having never tried them before and were a little disappointed. They were a little bland but dipping them in their amazing ranch dressing fixes that right up! We ordered the half chicken Fried steaks for lunch and wow! They were so amazing! They came out hot, fresh, and HUGE. My mom was in love with her mashed potatoes! I ordered a side of Mac and cheese. They say it’s homemade but I don’t think so(or it’s made with velveeta). I ended up not eating it but that didn’t matter since the portion of the steak was so big. Our server, Bella, was really sweet and attentive without hovering. It’s like she knew exactly when to stop at the table. They also have these great pies that are made in a local bakery! The coconut cream pie is straight up to die for!!! I have NEVER tasted pie that good. Everybody was so kind and inviting at Maxine’s. We live about an hour away so unfortunately, it can’t be our regular spot but it is so worth the drive! Can’t wait to go back!

On Main Street, in Bastrop, Maxine’s has a quaint atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious fare. You can get country classics and home cooking, but also grab a salad or other healthy options. The best of small town feel and great food!

All I have to say is Pot Roast! ! Third time coming here over the years and this time I was truly impress. Not sure if they remodel but the place felt different. .in a good way. Prices have gone up but the portions size make up for it. Service was good and friendly. My husband ordered the cheeseburger and wished it was a little juicier but my pot roast was WONDERFUL! The pot roast was served in a bowl topped off with brown gravy but natural juices flowing underneath. Mix everything together and I was in pot roast heaven. I got the side of cheese corn jalapeño and that too was yummy! My only draw back was the mashed potatoes… good but not very hot but the glories juices from the pot roast solved that minor detail! Was too full but the display of homemade pies and cake were tempting but I had to deny my tummy. .this time! Will be back and this time it won’t take us a couple of years in between! !

I’ve been here a few times now and I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I LOVE their catfish both ways and they are BIG filets. The fried catfish is perfectly crispy and their tartar sauce has just a hint of sweetness to it. I don’t typically like tartar sauce to be sweet, but this is definitely an exception. The grilled catfish might not be much healthier than the fried, but man it is good. The sides I’ve tried were, fried okra, fried squash, collards greens, and side salad. My husband has had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and country gravy. Yum! My dad tried the open face roast beef sandwich and really enjoyed it. Their desserts always look amazing. I don’t typically indulge, but the last time we went, my friend ordered the blueberry cheesecake and killed it. I also tried the cherry pie, heavy on the cherries and so delicious!

Stopped in for afternoon coffee and dessert. Both were wonderful. The homemade mocha cheesecake was to die for! Light and fluffy. The service was great and super friendly.

Daughter and I had dinner Wednesday evening. Probably last customers of the day, service was good. We shared the regular chicken fried steak and had the mashed potatoes and creamed jalapeño corn and I added a side salad. Loved the blue cheese dressing, full of chunks of cheese. Should have ordered the half order of steak because the regular covered the plate. Steak was good, would have preferred a softer crust but it was tasty as were the sides. Great place for some down home cooking. Do recommend eating here.

Maxine’s is a great small town eatery. They have a wide range of options, and everything we’ve ever ordered has been wonderful. The portions are always too large, so we often take home several to-go boxes of leftovers. The place is a bit small, so you will be bumping other tables and chairs while moving around. The decorations seem like they were pulled from your grandparent’s attic. An excellent place for a quick bit during the day or a relaxing dinner with the family. They even have live music from time to time.

Worth the long wait for the griddles, big platter breakfast and warm hospitality! We just love the small town feel of Bastrop and Maxine’s makes a good reason to come for breakfast. Didn’t love the breakfast sandwich but mainly the other two courses were much better.

I was so looking forward to eating here because of the reviews but our experience wasn’t as great as others. The hostess sat our party of 3 with a baby outside as requested, we had the high chair which made the table sit out a little more in the walkway than expected. When our waitress came out to bring us our cutlery, she said that we’d have to move inside. She wasn’t very nice about it or even offered to grab anything for us to help. We sat down inside and it took us forever to get our order placed, entered and food brought to us. I heard the cooks yell our waitresses name about 3 times for our food to be delivered before she went and got it for us. It was kind of frustrating. The food wasn’t that great either! I ordered the chicken fried steak and the steak was SO breaded but not a fluffy breaded, it was like a cornmeal bread which I’m not used to and don’t like. The desserts looked amazing and I’m sure other items are good but I’d be weary of ordering anything fried since it might be different than what you’re expecting.

Wonderful food and colorful service. Really, the ladies were fun, friendly and chatty. I had the monte Christo because I haven’t had one in forever. OMG– a party in my mouth. And it was so huge I couldn’t finish. Fries were also great and a brilliant glass of ice tea in a large mason jar. Barbara Lynch & Vicky Dawson, these ladies are gems! They welcomed us with open arms close to closing time, try the pot pie, we are walking away with hefty leftovers and PIE!

We called in an order for a chicken salad sandwich and a cheesesteak sandwich. 45 min later we are still here waiting. Ridiculous wait time for 2 sandwiches and one is a cold sandwich. Started this review giving them one star and just changed it. Although the wait was terrible my wife said they were really nice and when we got our food finally it was pretty good.

Stopped here on the way home! Great decision! Got the jalepeno appetizer to start it all off. Everything was good! From the chicken fried steak to a BLT to chicken waffles… we were all satisfied! I definitely would come here again. Cute little place too! Oh… the cheesecake was delicious too! And not overpriced either!

Food can be better depending who is cooking. My wife had catfish which was mushy. My steak had a lot of fat on it that could have been trimmed.

This us my go to chicken fried steak place. Period. Not just in bastrop, but in the entire Austin & surrounding areas. So when we were in town today with a need for breakfast, I thought of Maxine’s! We haven’t had breakfast here before. The griddle cakes here are bigasyourhead! For $ 10 you get Willies Breakfast & you get 2 eggs, your choice of potatoes/grits/oatmeal, your choice of bacon/sausage/ham steak and finally your choice of a griddle cake/waffle/French Toast. That’s what hubby chose. I had a hard time deciding between a breakfast taco &fruit cup or french toast & a side order of bacon(it does not come with the plate). I went with the French Toast, it was decent, but it wasn’t what I wanted, sad face. I’ve been sick lately so I wanted to splurge, but should have gone with the taco, more protein. Our service was great, like always. Food was great, like always. We will be back!

This is a great little place in downtown Bastrop. Good food, GREAT desserts, and friendly staff. My family heads to this place about once a month for some lunch and pie(heavy on the pie). I like that it’s a real familiar kind of place where the staff treat everyone nice and they seem to smile a lot. They recently expanded their hours and they are open for dinner from Thursday — Saturday! The only reason this is four stars and not five is that the seating is a bit awkward and tight. It’s a small restaurant and on the weekends when it’s packed taking a child that needs a high chair can feel a bit like an imposition on the other customers.

I love the breakfast here with reckless abandon! Their griddle cakes(aka pancakes) are enormous and so fluffy. The stuff that dreams are made of. I always get the blueberry ones. And their biscuits are pretty damn beautiful too. You like pie, baby girl? Oh they got pie in spades. Friendliest wait staff around too. Best little small town diner within a 30 mile radius of Austin, I reckon. Git ur be-hind down to Bastrop stat, load up on carbs, and you’ll sho nuff be glad you did!
