In town on a business trip. Coworker and I both like to pick random places to eat. The Brewer’s Art interested both of us. Our server was gracious and professional. Our food was amazing! He has the pork shank and I had the pork belly. The combination of sides were spot on and beautifully cooked. Neither of us had a single thing to say other than absolutely delicious and would definitely return if ever back in the area.

Go for the beer and some nice sushi. A little pricy, but worth it if you’re not waiting too long. Very cool location. Been going there for years, both upstairs and downstairs.

Get there early to score a tucked-away, graffiti-covered table. Stay downstairs because the food is better and cheaper and no one can tell if you spill beer on your shirt because there is practically no light down there. Also, rosemary garlic fries. Whatever you do, order them. Even if you just ate. Even if you hate rosemary. They are incredible.

I didn’t get a chance to try any food during my brief visit, but the other members in my party liked their drinks and the downstairs dungeon-like atmosphere. One called it a «speak-easy» like place for late night drinks.

Went here on a Friday night. The bar area was pretty crowded but we were able to be seated right away for dinner. One warning: parking can be a bit tricky but if you’re lucky, you might be able to find some street parking. The wide selection of beverages can accommodate most members in your group. The Brewer’s Art cheese board was amazing and we ordered some cheeses following the waiter’s recommendation: the sweet grass dairy heat(has a bit of heat), the hook’s triple play(combo of cow, sheep, and goat’s milk), and the great hill blue. The rest of the food was good… nothing here is too light so come prepared to eat.

This is the best gastropub in Baltimore. Must visit spot for microbrews. Romantic and dimly lit basement bar offers a wide selection. Try the baked mac and cheese for starters.

When walking in for the first time the bar is the first room, walk through the bar and to the left to get to the host stand. There are two levels to sit on. We drank upstairs on the couches, super relaxing. I was really impressed with the beer list that ranges from $ 2−10+. We also got two cocktails which were good but next time I’ll just drink beer. The server was really helpful with drink selections. The five of us decided to split an entrée order of mussels which the server recommended, it was a large bowl of mussels, a huge slice of garlic bread and a plate of fries, all delicious and garlicky.

Good food. Good drinks. Great atmosphere. The music was fantastic and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was a little dark to read the menu, but we made do. All the draft beers were very tasty and I ordered the Elk Terrine. Everything looked and smelled fantastic. I’d come back and points for being close to the train station.

Easily my favorite bar in Baltimore. Food and beers are always great. I’ve never eaten upstairs, but I sat at the bar up there once. I prefer the vibe downstairs more, it’s dark and candlelit and makes me feel like I’m gonna see Edgar Allan Poe’s ass brooding in the corner. I’m into it. Resurrection is my favorite beer(and after two of them I’m feeling giggly, 7% abv what up), but I’ve liked any beer I’ve tried. The food is truly great. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t get the mac and cheese. It’s baked and topped with breadcrumbs. It’s pure comfort food heaven. I’ve also had a charcuterie plate, the chili dog, and their chicken sam– all were great. Service is quick for how packed it can get downstairs later in the evenings. They also have a great happy hour, $ 3.75 house beers!

Stopped here for dinner with a friend. We went to the downstairs bar area. It was around 8pm on a Thursday and had no problem getting a table. This place is so cool. The upstairs looked fancy and is probably delicious but I loved the vibe downstairs – low key and chill. You order from the bar. The bartenders are super friendly and bring your food to your table. Beers were decently priced. We both go the cheeseburger and fries which was absolutely delicious. Definitely plan to come back next time I’m in Baltimore!

Came for dinner and loved the layout and space here. We sat upstairs in the bar area near the window and enjoyed watching the people go by. The beers are definitely 5 stars, but the food was not as good as I anticipated. As another reviewer said, the man n cheese was oily and heavily covered in panko bread crumbs. We actually read this before ordering, but took the risk anyways. It wasn’t bad mac n cheese– it just wasn’t good enough to warrant the price. M ordered the rock fish and enjoyed it. I ordered some kind of green salad entrée(I can’t remember the name but it was the only vegetarian option other than fish). It was good, but again, nothing incredible. For the prices, the food was a little disappointing in my opinion. Definitely not bad, but not something I’d crave or want again. We tried the Eutaw Street Reserve which is a saison, the Charm City Cherry Brown Ale, and the Resurrection Brown Ale. I was impressed with the beers. Our waitress was great– we asked her at the end which places she’d recommend for a drink within walking distance, and she had a lot of ideas. She spent the time to tell us about each place, which I thought was really cool. She didn’t seem rushed or like we were holding her up from her other tables, which was nice. I want to give 3.5 stars but will bump it to 4 because our server was great.

I feel torn. There are aspects where I want to give a 4 or 5 star. And then there are aspects where I wish I could give a 1 star. Let’s start with the positives: Beautiful space upstairs and hip, intimate space downstairs. Brewer’s Art has their own beer and it is overall pretty good. They have various types to fit different people’s palettes and the cocktails are well made. On a busy weekend night, I recommend going early with a smaller group because the downstairs area can get packed. And seating is limited. The rosemary garlic fries are delicious and the food, downstairs, is fantastic pub food — reminiscent of the Midwest. The negatives: Service. My husband and I went to Brewer’s Art(upstairs) for Valentine’s Day. Everything was going well. But in the middle of our meal, the waitress disappears. The place was packed and we had yet to receive our entire meal. We waited 30 minutes and she was no where to be found. We ended up escalating the issue to the manager(which took over 10 minutes to get someone to get us the manager) and it turned out she had left. I wish someone would have said something to us or there was a server to replace her. The dinner took way longer than necessary on a prix fixe meal that was over $ 100 without drinks. The price wouldn’t have bothered us if the service matched the cost. The overall food is pretty average for the fine dining area. My husband and I returned, despite our terrible experience, with a group of friends for drinks to celebrate a birthday. When my husband went to order at the bar, he had forgotten something and asked to modify the order and the bartender muttered a expletive at him. Again… customer service.

Brewer’s Art is very well known around the area and is located in the University of Baltimore vicinity. I was very excited to try this place after hearing rave reviews. I started off with the«Resurrection» beer. It was ok, but I didn’t quite feel resurrected after drinking this beer. I had better ales in other bars. Next, I wanted to try the mac and cheese. Frankly speaking, I thought that it had too much panko bread crumbs on it that shadowed the richness of mac and cheese. It wasn’t the best I’ve had, and I would most likely pass mac and cheese the next time I make a trip to this bar. Finally, for my entrée, I chose to have their famous Steak Frites, and this was indeed the highlight of the meal. The steak was cooked almost to perfection(medium rare), and the rosemary garlic fries fabulously complemented the steak. The steak was very juicy, and one of the better steaks I’ve had in the entire East Coast. Service was just about average. Overall, I was satisfied and would recommend this place to my fellow Unilocalers and friends.

Nice place for a night out, they have a bar side and the dining area. So you can come for special occasions or just a night out. I was at the dining area, nice and quiet very clean. THEFOOD… was good, the fires are great, very spiced up. The steak was well prepared, ordered medium rare, got medium rare. Wished I got rare, but maybe next time. Didn’t realized my entrée came with more fries… tons of delicious fries lol.

puhhhretty awesome that this place brews its own beers! Also, some of the beers here are named after the bartenders. It’s a versatile date spot– can be for dranks or for a romantic date. The inside room yields a high ceiling and low lights for an intimate environment. However, what I love most is their happy hour! Every 2 weeks or so, their craft beers rotate out. And on the weekdays from 4−7pm, their beers are only $ 3.75. Whenever I have visitors, I always bring them here because that price is unheard of in LA! And yes, get the rosemary fries to share because you won’t be able to finish it!

After a two day conference in Baltimore, I had a few hours before my flight back home. I researched craft beer places before my visit and The Brewer’s Art was one at the top of the list. I got there around 5pm on a Tuesday and the place wasn’t too crowded. I immediately noticed the soft lighting and warm atmosphere. It almost had the feel of a library. The back part of the place seemed to be more of a dining room for a sit down meal. It was fairly empty as it was so early but the front bar section had several people enjoying good beer and snacks. I was greeted by a nice bartender at my table and ordered a cheese place and a bottle of The Brewer’s Art Zeke’s Coffee Porter. The porter was dark, smooth and delicious and the cheese plate was great as well. My only regret is that I didn’t get the Rosemary Garlic Fries, which it seems like is the best thing about this place. My visit was short but worthwhile. I’d definitely visit again to try more beers and food options. A great stop for a craft beer lover in Baltimore.

Bottom Line: A little cramped but otherwise an excellent experience. The front bar at Brewer’s Art was a convenient hang out for me in the early 2000s but I never realized until moving back to Maryland how awesome dining is here. What I really like about Brewer’s Art is the excellent service, food and beer. Additionally, the décor has a unique and memorable feel. Regarding beer, I love beer and the drafts at Brewer’s Art do not disappoint. The Morte-Saison and Tartuffe-Sublime sour are highlights for me. As for food, I really don’t think you could go wrong with anything here. BF and I took the surf and turf approach and started with mussels before proceeding to super tender and flavorful Wagyu beef brevette(shoulder) and Lobster Juice Poached Cod. The mussels were good and plentiful but the entrees were excellent. On my next visit I plan to save room for the Caramelized Banana Pudding. The bar menu is different than the dining room menu and the difference in price probably explains why I was able to be a regular here in grad school. For a less pricey evening with still a very cool vibe, there is a front bar and basement bar. Also, the dress for the bars is more casual than the dining room which may be filed with patrons headed to the theater or symphony or celebrating a special occasion. Something I didn’t realize until BF pointed it out is that the restaurant is nearly unmarked. I don’t think there is any blatant signage out front but when I arrived at the restaurant with a large, smooth glass window juxtaposition with turn of the century building architecture, I knew I was at the right place. The only downside the Brewer’s Art is the cramped dining room and lack of valet parking. Once seated in the dining room I really couldn’t escape between courses for a trip to the ladies room. Additionally, I felt like I was part of the awkward blind date commencing about 18 inches from me.(At least she had good beer to keep her company!) Also, valet parking would be awesome here but instead I paid to park in the roomy lot one block away. Overall, I would give Brewer’s Art 4.5 stars but I’m rounding up to 5 stars in favor of a local business. When people think of Baltimore I sure wish they thought of culinary delights in historical buildings in the hip Midtown Belvedere rather than TV shows like Homicide and The Wire and unfortunate riots. Thanks Brewer’s Art for making Charm City charming.

STEAKFRITESSTEAKFRITESSTEAKFRITES YAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Came here with my boyfriend for our Anniversary dinner celebration and WOW were we impressed. The ambiance sets a warm romantic tone in the back with the wild party crowd at the front(upon entrance is a brewery). We were seated in a room covered in wood paneling(my favorite) that had an adorable little fireplace. The placement was perfect for the Anniversary dinner we had planned. The server was very polite and attentive. She encouraged us to order the steak frites and to try one of the beers that were brewed onsite. We did exactly that and loved everything. The steak frites was a large portion of crispy rosemary French fries, a small green salad and an amazing cooked to perfection slice of steak. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner.

I can’t speak on the restaurant aspect of The Brewer’s Art as I was only there to visit the downstairs basement area. This area is a cool spot to sit around and chat with a small group. Basement area is a bit divey with table area, small bar area and a group of tables off to the side. Get there early as it fills up fast. They have an assortment of beers on tap. The Beazly and the Resurrection were both quality beers, 7% alcohol so perfect to hit towards the later part of the night to finish yourself off. Staff is cool and friendly, worth a visit if you’re a beer fan.
