I have a feeling this isn’t the same ownership for which the positive reviews reflect. I ordered takeout, first of all: no happy hour for carry-out. I spend $ 60 for my wife and I. When I get home, I am embarrassed! I couldn’t tell my wife how much I spent here for so little food! I wish I would have looked in the restaurant. The rolls are worth no more than $ 2, they are about the same size as what you buy ready made at the grocery store. In fact, these rolls are also prepared in advance. I was the only guy in the restaurant but I watched the chef making numerous rolls and putting them in the fridge. One could explain that as preparing a to-go order but no, he prepared them with seran wrap so they were stored more long term. Then they would pull some outbid the fridge for a to-go order. It is not fresh, even though they have the display window in front of the chef. I’m furious about how little food I got!

Now known as Yo Sushi, this is not the same sushi restaurant we have visited several times a month for the past few years. Since the new owners have taken over, they are quite friendly, but service is incredibly slow when dining in. I wish I could continue to order for pick up, but it seems like all of their special rolls are now covered in spicy mayo and are just not as good as before. The basic rolls are not quite as fresh. It’s so sad.

New owners now… no longer Sapporos. Now Yo Sushi or something like that. Now looking for a new sushi place.

Ginger dressing was more like an onion dressing. Salad was nice, large, and had actual greens. However, the most important items: SUSHIROLLS, were not well constructed and fell apart on us. Knife skills lacking on fish, it was very jagged and not cold enough. Lobster roll was not impressive as it was heavily coated in batter. I want to actually taste the Lobster on an $ 18 roll. Service was okay even though the AC was not working. Complimentary fruit at the end was nice, but overall too much money for what we received. Maybe an off night for the chef due to lack of AC. We might try it again, but not likely.

Stopped in for an impromptu dinner one night. Atm: It’s a smaller restaurant but I can see how it can get cozy if it gets busier. When we stopped in only half the tables were taken. Food: This is what I really want to review about we ended up getting the boat, which had really well rolled sushi rolls. The fish tastes fresh, compared to other sushi places I’ve been to. It’s on the pricier end, but the presentation and the taste was good. We also had some tempura, which was well battered and fried, though the dip tasted sort of saltier than normal. I liked how after you’re done they give you pineapple slices. In terms of sushi I would definitely stop here again. The fish was well cut and melted in your mouth. And the caterpillar roll we ended up having in the center of our boat was well presented. The rolls were well sized too.

We stopped in for lunch to satisfy a sushi craving. I have been here several times and I am always taken very good care of. Hanna is the main waitress, and I think the only waitress. I’m not sure if the gal ever gets a day off! It’s fair for me to say the difference between a 4 and 5 stars is almost always due to one employee. Hanna can take credit for the 5th star. Started the lunch off with the salad and miso soup. Always great here. We then had the Caterpillar Roll, Manchester Roll, Yummy Roll, Tempora Roll and a couple others. All were very good. They always bring out some pineapple carved animal looking thing that has to take some talent to cut at the end of the meal free of charge, to finish off the visit.

I heart Sapporo. They are my go to sushi place in West County. In all honesty, they are my favorite in all of STL. You would probably drive by this place without giving it a second look; its a small restaurant in a small strip shop area off of Manchester Rd. near Pasta House. It’s a hidden gem in Ballwin, and the word is definitely out because they are usually busy, even during the weeknights. We try to come here every Friday night for dinner(its our thing) and I look forward to it each and every week. The same people are always working there, we love the chef(he says ‘PLEASEHAVE A SEATTTTTT’ in a loud voice from the back as you enter the restaurant, and if you’ve never been here, you will probably just stand there wondering, what did he just say??’) and the older woman wearing glasses with short hair is the best, she seats us in ‘our spot’ everytime and knows our drink orders along with a large salad(extra dressing) by heart. Their salad is the best I’ve ever had at a sushi restaurant, their dressing is homemade and phenomenal(hence the extra dressing for us every time). A couple of suggestions for rolls: yellowtail, tuna, salmon avocado(all plain jane but DE-LISH) and then my favorite specialties would be the yummy roll, spicy salmon roll and cherry blossom. Mr. G loves the TNT roll which is large and spicy with a medley of fresh fish rolled inside, I like it but I would not qualify it as one of my favorites. I love this place because their quality of fish is always great, they have it sent in from Chicago. If you are looking for a trendy sushi place for the ambiance and not so much for the sushi, go elsewhere… but if you are looking for great sushi in an unexpected quaint little restaurant, visit Sapporo and PLEASEHAVE A SEATTTTTTTT.

I go here for lunch. I have never had a bad meal. I get the luncheon special letter e. It contains miso soup, side salad, salmon/avacado roll and a spicy tuna roll. Sometimes I get it to go. The staff are very nice and sometimes we sit and chat while I wait for my order.

I think the sushi here tastes fresh, seems to be some of the better quality around. I would rate higher but the service can be crazy slow.

Will never return. I stopped in around 6PM on a Friday night. They had some customers but no more than 40% I’d say. I sat at the bar and placed my order. I proceeded to watch those who came in after me to get their food. It took an hour before any of my order arrived and then it was incorrect. So I sat for an hour with a glass of water(never came back for a drink order) and took my order to go. Never again when there are so many other sushi places in the area.

A great little place for a quick bite to eat. IMHO it is not high end sushi, but it is decent, the staff is very nice and they gave me a cute little pineapple boat dessert :-)

Tried this restaurant about a month ago and it is easily the best Japanese food I’ve had since I left California 15 years ago. Tempura is very light and crispy, fish very fresh and some very creative and beautiful rolls. Price is also very good. I returned a few days ago for take out and even that was great! This place is a must for sushi lovers(and yes, the sushi chef is Korean — doesn’t change that the food is great).

Went here for the first time this week due to good reviews on Unilocal. The rolls were good. The sushi chef was nice and the waitress was friendly as well. They give you(at least when we were there) this beautiful pineapple that is sliced very artistically for a dessert at the end at no charge. Very nice way to conclude a good meal. We told the waitress that it was our first time and I give her credit for asking at the end«So, will you be coming back?» I answered a resounding«yes.»

This has become my go to place for Sushi. Food is great. Prices are good. Sometimes you can catch crazy Japanese game shows on their TV but lately its been on american stuff. and sometimes if you hang around after your meal, they bring out a fruit plate that’s just as well presented as their sushi.

I LOVE Sapporo. The staff(except one kinda grouchy older lady that I still like) is super nice. It’s a little, dark, intimate restaurant located in a strip mall in Ballwin, right across from Steven Vincel Honda. The sushi is always fresh and well-made. The vegetable and shrimp tempura is a favorite, as well as the ‘yummy’ roll– which lives up to its name.

My wife and I have eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants here in St. Louis and wherever we travel. I honestly think this is the best sushi restaurant(for food, not atmosphere) in St. Louis. The spicy tuna and scallop rolls are some of the best I have ever had — better than Nobu or Blue Ribbon in NY. Try the bbq squid appetizer — it’s really good. You really can’t go wrong with any of the sushi. The fish is always fresh, and if you ask the chef he will always point you in the right direction.

ehhh… went here with a japanese friend for lunch yesterday… she said chefs were asian though not japanese — maybe korean, maybe phillipino, maybe chinese… good spider roll. lunch comes with 4 nigiri, miso soup & salad. $ 13. a moderate price but not too bad. it was deserted except for 1 other diner and my friend & i — at noon. they had a few dinner items, in addtion to lots of nigiri, rolls, sushi combos, etc…

Sapporo Sushi is one of my new favorite places in West St. Louis, located in a strip mall off of Manchester Road in Ballwin. Walking in, you’re quickly greeted and asked if this is carry out or eat in. In the far back you can see the head chef preparing the sushi. If you are eating in, one of the nice girls will take you to a table and get your order. Sapporo has so many choices that it is quite impressive, and it typically takes me a few minutes to decide even if I had my mind made up before entering! They’ve got typical sushi, spicy sushi and use a wide variety of seafood. Your sushi is brought out on cute little boats, it’s so much fun! You can also sit at the counter to watch the chef making the sushi. Don’t want sushi? That’s fine, they have ‘normal food’ as well. Now, these people take their time to get it right. Expect it to take some time. The décor is nice and cozy, but it can get a little noisy in there with the television and the talking. Basically, this is a nice little place for properly priced sushi off of a main street.
