Very family friendly. Good fresh food. They know how to do Mexican right here. A fun place to eat out. The place was packed– there was a 30 minute wait to get in but it was worth it. Will go again. Try the Super Nachos.

I have been coming to this place since grade school and it has always been delicious! The chicken quesadillas are my go-to but I also enjoy the tacos. Great Mexican cuisine with awesome service. I can’t wait to eat there again!

Tortilla flats was quite the mexican place. The food was amazing. My entire family was pleased, and loved the non alcoholic margaritas. The ambiance was, less than expected but the food and service made up for it, even though I couldn’t here myself think.

Note to self: reread my reviews before visiting places for a 2nd time. I took one star off for my own stupidity. The guacamole this time was even WORSE. I have no idea what type of filler they use to replace large amounts of avocado but it gave me the absolute worst acid reflux ever. So bad that the back if my throat burns. Chips are worse than Tostidos My salad was eh. I won’t forget next time to skip this place.

Awesome staff, great atmosphere, food was very good and reasonably priced. Our server Carol was excellent and extremely personable and funny. Ask for Carol she was awesome!

The chips in the blue chip crab nachos were at least 2 years and 11 months old. The chicken quesadillas were like a mosh pit of cottage cheese legs. The quesadillas had to be murdered and stabbed to get out of the dish. To be fair, we got take out. Oh and we ate it all

We were there this past weekend and had a very enjoyable meal. While it wasn’t at the level of anything we’ve had when living in Santa Fe, for the beach, we were pleased. Everything we ordered was very good. In comparison to the other restaurants we visited while visting Avalon, it was definitely the best.

Not even close to authentic Mex and the prices are on the high end. Two kids meals, 1enchilada, 1 chimichanga platter and no soft drinks(water) ran just under $ 50 w/out tip included. Although, it is a cute place and the service was great. They even had complimentary self serve hot cider out for all patrons. It is typical for prices to be higher on the island. Nonetheless, we appreciated the place being open on the off season and the cider was a nice touch on a brisk Nov. evening.

We stayed in Stone Harbor Labor Day week, which also included my husband’s birthday. I asked him where he wanted to go and he said Tortilla Flats. The food was very good. I ordered Mexican Chili. It was excellent. I had never had it before. I took the leftovers back to our rental, but them in the refrigerator and brought them home with me. It was still good reheated. We would go back again.

Quite delicious. My family and I visit Avalon every summer and this is the only MUST-GO dinner spot!(we have a few MUST-GO breakfast spots). The navajo taco, the quesadillas are great. It’s BYOB, but I suggest BYOT(Tequilla) and order there house made mixes — just add your own liquor!

The worst Mexican food I have ever had. I was here for lunch and everything tasted like it was from a can. The quesadillas were so greasy they were translucent. In addition, the rice and chicken were extremely dry. The frozen margarita was fake, too. Overall, the food to me tasted like a five year old made their own version of Mexican.

Love this place! Staff & kitchen beyond competent & friendly! Food always piping hot for take-out and although a bit pricey, you get PLENTY for your money.

I will say this, the food was okay… I had the very mexican poblano chicken and it was fine(although the chicken filets were the shape and consistency of the Costco frozen chicken breasts my mom buys). The place is really casual and a BYO. It is expensive for what you get and it would never survive in a place with more options… but as this is Avalon and there are more people than F&B outlets, this place probably can charge more for the food and get away with it. My biggest disappointment was the guacamole. This was one-star quality guac… literally it was paste. I don’t think it was even made from avocado… for a mexican place to serve this is… it is just poor form. There are still plenty of options down at the shore that wasting another«where should we eat» type night will never happen at this place again. The rating is no reflection of the service, which was friendly and attentive.

Yeah, this place is massivel overpriced. I would give it 4 stars if it weren’t 20 dollars for basic Mexican entrees. That said, you do get a lot of food. But it’s somewhat bland flavoring. The apps are worth trying, and it is nice that it’s byo, but I wouldn’t go back for those prices. There are much better options nearby in Philly.

Just ordered the only salad that I actually like… from anywhere… the Mexican Chopped Salad. I’ve probably had this salad a dozen or more times. Perhaps, it’s because I ordered it to go, but it was awful. The lettuce was not chopped as it usually is. It was brown and in huge chunks. The chicken looked as if it was brtually ripped apart and not cut with an actual utensil. The toppings were meager at best. Especially the avacado, because there was none, zero. $ 14.99 badly spent.

We’ve been coming here for years. Good solid Mexican. Big plates of food. Friendly service. I eat at a more authentic Mexican when home, but this place is always a stop for us. Definitely got better since my review in 2010

My boyfriend is bananas for this place and we ended up eating there twice in a 5 day span. I was a bit skeptical until I tried the crab enchilada. The crab was amazing. I couldn’t believe I could taste the crab in a dish with so much stuff layered atop of it. Seafood and Mexican food are a great combination. We were there in the off season so I didn’t have to worry about lines or crowds. It was quite nice to be seated right away and drink the beer we brought.

As of this review, the overall rating is only 2 stars. I think that that is a bit low however the food, atmosphere, and service aren’t more than 3 stars. Still, if you want a bit of Mexican in Avalon, your options are limited and the food here is fine for low key dining. Note it’s BYO. The restaurant is simple in design with basic tables and tile floor. I tried to get them to turn up the music to no avail. The place has potential if they make it a bit more fun but the staff seems bored. They were friendly but not professional, ie they didn’t come by the table quickly to start, didn’t have great recommendations, weren’t enthusiastic. The food is not bad; it’s just plain. Not amazing in it’s presentation or creativity or flavor. It is more traditional Mexican but it does need spice as others have written. So add some, it’s on the table! Price wise, EVERYTHING in Avalon is expensive, so no surprise our meal for two with one appetizer and without alcohol was $ 45. If you want outstanding, Avalon has other places. This is a descent place for a more casual meal and with kids. It could be so much better with a little bit of work! Get the staff excited by making them wear sombreros, play some loud Mexican music, give away free shots, you know, simple stuff. :)

Hard to find a reason to recommend this place. The tacos were good but not spectatcular. The salsas were a bit bland. The girl taking my order had a hard time explaining what was included in the taco platter and couldn’t recommend what salsa goes good with what dish. Since it was never clear to me, I still don’t know what’s included in the platter and ended up ordering al a carte. The outdoor seating is at an angle, kind of gives the feeling of being on a boat.

I am very surprised at all of the negative reviews. My family and I have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed it. Their food is great and they give you plenty of it! They also give you chips and salsa when you sit down which are usually gone at our table within minutes! Service is always friendly and efficient. Definitely one of the better places in Avalon that won’t kill your wallet.
