What has seven letters and is synonym for amazing? The Shed! These guys have rocked my socks off ever since they came on the scene in April. They’ve won multiple awards, travelled the country and are just super awesome guys. With the perfect amount of sauce on it’s tender shredded meat, crispy salty pickles, fresh coleslaw and tender bread, this place gets my vote for best pulled pork barbecue I’ve ever had. I’ve done the lockhart tour, I’ve stood in line for Franklin and I will still drive downtown, search out the shed and try to keep the drool factor down to an 8 before digging into a pile of their hot meat.

Man, I stopped by here on a Friday night and Brett and the crew hooked me up with some Dirty South in My Mouth! Seriously, after eating the pulled pork plate I could not function. I was so full… I couldn’t even go out afterwards and drink. I went home and hibernated in my food coma. The Mac N Cheese was slammin’! Best BBQ I’ve had in Austin — hands down. You gotta love the custom, home-made trailer with lots of character!

Got the pulled pork sandwich and it was really good. And really big! If you aren’t super hungry you can probably split one, especially if you get a side or two. I’m not a big fan of sweet, so the sauce was a bit overwhelming for me but that’s easily solved by getting the sauce on the side. The pork was great, tender and flavorful. Good bun too – some buns fall apart or are too hard but this was big and smooshy enough to hold the meat in, but not too big to eat or too soft. The guys manning the trailer were friendly and the sides – mac and slaw – were fine. I have a couple of BBQ joints I like a bit more(and lots that I like less!) – but The Shed is now definitely in my rotation.

Didn’t expect such good meat to come from a food truck. The shredded pork sandwich was so flavorful and hearty. The mac salad is the best BBQ side I have ever tasted. Al dente pasta with a tangy mayo-based sauce, and crunchy chopped red onions and bell pepper. I wish I could’ve ordered a whole plateful. The guy told me I could look up the recipe online, as it was featured on an episode of «Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.» The beans were tasty, but like the BBQ sauce, was loaded with sugar. A bit too sweet for my taste buds, but still delectable nonetheless. When I inquired about their potato salad(love that stuff!), he apologized and said they run out of it. He explained that it is the only thing they don’t make in-house; a little old lady back in MS makes it, and since it costs $ 80 to ship it over, they are just going to go back one weekend and bring back tubs of it. He even gave me a free side since they were out. Really nice dudes running this place. There is seating outside at The Rabbit next door, and the option of some ice cold beers from there too. I’ll definitely be back soon.

Wow. Simply wow. Texas BBQ won me over with their brisket and peppery/vinegar based sauces, but The Shed turns that style of BBQ on its head and give your mouth what it really wants… sweet, savory deliciousness. The pork sandwich is an absolute must have. Get it with extra sauce if you can. The sauce is so good, I would drink it straight, put it in my coffee, and potentially brush my teeth with it. And, the sandwich is HUGE. Seriously, it’s massive. I went there one night with some friends to get a bite to eat before we went out for the night and we ended up just going home in a food coma from so much BBQ.(See the pic I took of the sandwich in the pics above). The sides are also a thing of gastrointestinal bliss. The potato salad is a must have; it’s like a twice baked potato, in salad form. Amazing. There’s no wonder The Shed has won countless awards and just placed 3rd in the WORLDSERIESOFBBQ. That’s number THREE. In the WORLD. You really have no excuse NOT to try it.

I’m sorry but if The Shed being mobile and not in an actual building bothers you… you need to re-evaluate things. Austin is full of mobile edible awesomeness. The Shed aka«The Rolling Joint» is awesome! Ive never had coleslaw on my bbq sandwich but I will from now on:) The pulled pork bbq sandwich Mississippi style was the best bbq sandwich Ive ever had. Oh and yes, I am from TEXAS and I still think these guys rock! Look beyond the trailor and TASTETHEFOOD! You wont be disappointed.

This Georgia boy thinks this is best damn barbecue in town. Period. And if that isn’t an endorsement to end all endorsements, I don’t know what is.

Texas should be grateful for Mississippi. If it wasn’t for Mississippi, Texas would rank dead last when it came to public education, literacy, per capita income, etc. Yes, there are a lot of reasons to be thankful for Mississippi and now we have another reason — Mississippi-style BBQ. A previous Unilocal post pretty much crucified The Shed because it’s not a traditional brick-and-mortar building. Duh! As the name clearly points out, it’s a freaking shed. From what I recall on the Food Network, the original eatery started as a shed and it expanded, got clobbered by a hurricane and they repaired the damage and expanded some more. The place flooded and they expanded again. The rate of expansion can mean only one thing. The clientele pool kept getting bigger and customers kept coming back. The Shed is located on the gravel parking lot of Rabbits. I had just finished drinking some beer at Rabbits and on the way out stopped at the trailer. They didn’t take cash and the guy running the trailer(think his name was Brent) told me there was an ATM machine inside. The pulled pork was very good. Unlike Texas-style BBQ, which uses the smoke from hardwoods such as mesquite, hickory and/or post oak as the main flavoring agent, The Shed uses pecan hardwood. Pecan emits a mild, sweeter flavor. The slow-smoked pulled porked perfectly absorbed the distinct pecan wood flavor. I went ahead and ordered the pork sandwich with 2 sides. The potato salad and bean sides were«grandmas» recipes. The potato salad was creamy, with hints of bacon, green onion, and perhaps dill. It was not cubed like traditional Texas potato salad but sliced like scalloped potatoes. The navy beans were also a bit different than the pinto beans I’m used to eating at Texas BBQ joints. The beans were sweet from the molasses and a bit tangy from the BBQ Sauce. The BBQ sauce was dark, tangy and sweet. He smothered my po’boy with sauce, which I didn’t care too much for as I really wanted to get a good taste of the the pork. I paid $ 10 buck for the sandwich and 2 sides. Macaroni and coleslaw were other sides available … I’ll try those out next time. I gave The Shed 5 stars because it was plain good-tasting BBQ. Unlike the previous yahoo who gave this place 2 stars only because they are from Mississippi I went ahead and took into consideration other trivial factors such as quality of food, taste, and customer service. Katy Perry kissed a girl and she liked it. I ate Mississippi-style BBQ and«likeded» better.

This is an award winning franchise in Mississippi, but that little shanty you brought here to Texas? You better send it back because this is Texas son, you best bring yo A game. That’s the reference point of how the Shed should be if they come here but the tiny little trailer they dropped off in the small random lot of the vastly under populated Rabbit Lounge during SXSW just ain’t cutting it. I mean this franchise has been ranked Best BBQ for the last 6 years by the Nat’l BBQ Association. come on mannn! They only served sandwiches so I couldn’t even enjoy the full experience. I will say the sauce is pretty good but without the sauce, the meat was just NOT as juicy and flavorful as my high expectations demand. ONE sandwich was $ 7 and a full double side plate was $ 10. A bit overpriced if you ask me. The sad part was that the BBQ wasn’t being freshly smoked, I expect to see pillows of smoke tooting from a smoker in the back. Sadness If you really want to expand to ATX, I suggest you go back and get your legit smoker you left back in Mississippi. Franklin’s BBQ gave me a flavorgasm in my mouth. This BBQ left me hungry and unsatisfied and maybe a tad bit sexually frustrated.
