“My First UYE”, at The Bakehouse

What a turnout Larry! Even the puppies of Unilocal made an appearance.
This was my first visit to the Bakehouse and found it to be a great casual place to dine with your friends and/​or family inside and also they have a large dog friendly patio great for drinking a beer with your 4 legged BFF.
I was eating on the lighter side and ordered a side salad and Diet Coke. The veggies in the salad were fresh and I loved the tangy vinaigrette they served with it.
Despite the large turnout and a few of us table hopping the employees took care of our group well.
Congrats on a successful first UYE Larry!

LARRY!!! What can I say? It was awesome!!! The Bakehouse was a great place to meet for a UYE. Food was great and very reasonably priced. It was awesome to meet so many nice Unilocalers from Austin and from San Antonio.
Larry, you did a great job in organizing your first UYE!!! You are a pro!

First UYE? Really? Seemed well organized, well attended, and well executed. That can’t just be the first!
Maybe Larry should look into organizing events for a living, since this was a good time by all. Good call on picking a great venue and for brunch. Also, being local to my house is a pretty good idea too.

I really enjoyed L-Dub’s first UYE. It was my first time meeting the Dubster, and I got to see a lot of my Unilocaler friends that I hadn’t seen in a while. it had a great turnout – 25 to 30, which is killer for a UYE. I brought my brother J, and introduced him to many of the Unilocal community. All in all, it was a great event, but I ostracized myself by bringing my dogs, Bocce Ball and Butch. Being relegated to stay on the porch, my contact was limited with the rest of the party. I did get to hang with Errol M, Phillip B, Catherine T, And Karen N from San Antonio. Beth D, Amy D and Melissa A stopped by for a minute as well. And. always a pleasure to see Alex H once more. One of my metrics for a good event, was the fact that me, J, Catherine, and Phillip were the «Last Unilocalers Standing». Ya just can’t beat that!
Larry, it was great to meet you, and thanks for a great event! See ya at the next one!

I love all Unilocal events… especially UYEs because they are planned specifically for strangers and friends to show up and get to know one another. I don’t know what I did before Unilocal.
Larry went out of his way to produce an awesome event. He made sure to greet everyone and even provided name tags. Name tags are fun when other people get to make suggestions. During the event I went from the New Mexican to DeLea-​Not Elite. That sums up my status and we all had a good laugh.
Bakehouse was terrific-​I love any breakfast that isn’t Mexican. Not that I don’t love breakfast tacos and huevos rancheros-​I just don’t like it every time I go out to eat. I had Eggs Benedict on this occasion (yum!)
Larry, I can’t wait to see you again! I will plan a UYE this spring, when we can be sure the city won’t shut down for a Snow Day:)

Very well done, Larry — An impressive turnout for a first UYE for sure — and in a superb spot! Love Bakehouse, they were a wonderful host. I didn’t join the Unilocaler mix until the end — but it was wonderful to see everyone!!! I wasn’t sure Bakehouse would be the right setup for a large group, but they accommodated everyone perfectly and the service was great, the food’s always good, the company was even better.
Bravo!

L Dubs couldn’t have picked a better venue for his cherry poppin’ UYE. Hosting UYE’s can be nerve racking, especially, if it’s your first. Crazy thoughts go through your head like; «will anyone show up?», «will they like this place?», «will they like me?’, «will I like them?», «what if…, You get my point. Larry showed his organizational and social butterfly skills as he romanced the group of Unilocalers, and, made sure there was enough table space going on. I enjoyed seeing old faces, and, meeting new ones. Good job Dubs, looking forward to your next one. Welcome to the Unilocaling UYE club!

So did you ever have one of those unexpected long Saturday nights on 6^th Street, where everything becomes slightly hazy toward the end, and when you’re quietly recovering the next morning at Baguette et Chocolat, your phone buzzes with «You’re due at First UYE,» but you read it as «You’re due at First Chinese,» and you start wondering why you want Peking Duck in the morning, but then you remember it’s Larry W’s first UYE, so you think okay and hit the road, but get there an hour late, because you’re driving around in circles, since you still don’t know the difference between Stassney & William Cannon? Doesn’t this happen to everyone? Well okay then.
There was a time when The Bakehouse was the only sit-​down restaurant south of Ben White, and it was one of the first Austin restaurants I ever went to. Well, it’s still there getting it done. I didn’t eat anything on this particular Sunday, because I would have hurled, but Melissa A and I had brunch here not so long ago, and I remember it being pretty decent. The coffee then and now was fresh and wonderful, which is basically my Sunday morning priority. I guess I could have taken pics of what everyone was eating at Larry’s event, but sometimes I just don’t care.
What I do care about is acknowledging the people I know at these things, and remembering exactly what I say to them. And at this event it was Karen & Beth & Isibel, and DeLea, and Chiqui & Derek & Stephanie, and Melissa & Ron & Catherine. I sat outside for a bit with Phillip & Mark & J. I knew Sonia & Ted from San Antonio. And seriously, who doesn’t love Amy? With three exceptions, it was all happy Unilocal talk. I can’t quite remember the names of Mark’s two dogs, but then again, I only have an x-​amount of disposable brain cells available on any given Sunday.
My instinct is The Bakehouse will be here long after we’re gone, they handled Larry W’s First UYE with attentive aplomb, and I can think of several reasons why I’ve never used the phrase «attentive aplomb» before. I’m pretty sure Larry W did have a good time at his first UYE, he organized a good crowd nicely, and it was a pleasant Sunday afternoon respite for me. Yes, please.

This is how it’s done y’all. You RSVP. You show up. You order what you want. You eat. You socialize. You don’t eat if you don’t want. You don’t socialize if you don’t want. You pay your tab with cash.
These folks had name tags! Brilliant. I sat inside. I sat outside. I met more Austin Unilocalers. Awesome first UYE Larry!

OK, first of all, the FIVE STARS go to all the wonderful Unilocalers who made «My First UYE» so much fun!
And at least five stars to Joe, our Manager-​in-​charge, and the wonderful Waitstaff at The Bakehouse; they took great care of all of us (but I wasn’t done with my Eggs Pritchard just yet; where’d they go?)
I never intended to become a Unilocaler. Generally speaking, I’m wary of Social Networking. I only got into Yep because I wanted to defend my favorite local Pizzeria (Milano), and needed to create an account to write a review and post some pic’s to disprove all the complainers, who didn’t PROVE their point with some pictures to back it up.
And that’s how I made one of my first (if not my VERY first) Unilocal Friend (YF), over a compliment of one of those pictures.
And that one YF has multiplied quite a bit since then, and I love all of ya!
Thanks to all who attended, and to those who intended to, but had unexpected situations arise. And to those of you who didn’t, well, it won’t be next week, but we just GOTTA do it again!
And I finally got some pic’s at an event with «Moi» in them; I take a lot of ‘em sometimes, but the poor slob behind the camera never gets to be in ‘em. That’s why I got a tripod, which I forgot to bring.
