The good news is the staff was friendly and that the food I ate tasted good. Other than that, I didn’t care for the place, hardly anyone there(which isn’t always a bad thing), and the buffet was quite limited in size and variety. Was very limited if you consider yourself vegetarian or vegan. Other than some fruit, you wouldn’t really of had anything you could of eaten. I won’t be going back.

I very recently discovered this place. Been ordering delivery via . Food is very tasty, not generic like many places around. Mongolian beef has a great sauce.

Have been back here several times now and it is as good every time. I have also tried their chicken wings off the appetizer menu and they are amazing. A must-have now and very inexpensive.

I was blocked in my parking space at the nail salon(beer delivery?!), so I had a few minutes to waste and I thought I’d give this place a try. I ordered carry-out and it was ready quickly. The guy who took my order was very friendly. Yay… my car is no longer blocked in, so I take my yummy smelling food home… OMG… The best sight to see is sweet & sour chicken in long thin strips instead of big fat nuggets. I asked for no onions… check! Vegetables, pineapple & chicken are cooked to perfection. But the best part was the crab rangoons. My old stand-by Chinese place has kinda crappy rangoons… but not this place. They were DELICIOUS! And you could see the chunks of «crab». AWESOME! The best part is they also deliver within a 5-mile radius, so no more settling for mediocre when I can have excellence delivered! Welcome to the neighborhood, Hunan Café!

Excellent food! Friendly staff! Fast service! This place has become a weekly go to! The food is fresh and delicious. As many of the reviews mentioned, the portions are huge. The regular prices are great, the specials are even better. The restaurant is conveniently located in a shopping area on Wells Branch, a block down from 35. If you live in the neighborhood or happen to be driving by, this is a wonderful spot for fast and delicious food. My personal recommendations: the Crab Rangoons, Kung-Pao Shrimp, and the Hunan Shrimp(or Chicken). The restaurant might be slow at times. But, every time we’ve eaten in, there are a number of people popping in and picking up take out. Home deliveries are also available for $ 3. If you think that’s steep, I promise that the total for your order and the amount of food received will still be pleasantly surprising and worth it.

Whoa! Really good food coming out of this little strip mall restaurant! Love it when we get another good place in my hood! The bf and i were hungry but feeling lazy this past weekend. I had picked up a random menu at work for Hunan Café and it was still sitting on the coffee table. That will work, we decided. They have a big menu and even have lunch specials on saturday’s too. After reading some Unilocal!reviews. I decided i wanted something with a brown sauce. Hunan beef it is. i also wanted to try the chicken corn soup and the pan fried dumplings. I call in the order. They tell me 30 mins. They were actually here in less than 20. *now is when i should mention, as well, that i should have done a little more homework. this new place is literally .01 miles from me. Practically attached to my apartment complex. They have a $ 3 delivery fee. carole failed.* The food comes piping hot, the driver was super nice and probably thought i was crazy for having it delivered. The Hunan beef was really good. The brown sauce IS good!( Unilocal!ers never let me down) There was a medley of about 5 different vegetables, all yummy and cooked perfectly. Don’t you just love baby corn?! i dunno what it is about them but i do! and these baby corn were big! I digress. The soup was also tasty. Egg drop with peas, corn, carrots and Actual little chunks of chicken. i swear this is probably the first time i’ve actually gotten chunks of chicken when i ordered chicken corn soup. Another gold star awarded! The item that i can already see myself getting addicted to are the dumplings. They could have been crispier, but no biggie. They were filled with a mix of pork and vegetables and were stuffed full. The dipping sauce was Auhmazing. It had a hint of ginger and scallions and what i imagine was a dash of magic. i wanted to drink it! Also, they included an egg roll and gave me what i would assume is a large order of soup. Awesome! *this made me feel better about my delivery snafu, because i’m cheap*. The egg roll was tasty too and actually had meat in the filling and not just stuffed full of cabbage. Win! So, if your in the area, don’t let the whole strip mall part get to you. If you are one of my neighbors, this is my new default chinese food delivery place! /just sayin 12⁄5 **Picked up a lunch special today. 6.99 for a good portion of yummy pepper steak, rice, another tasty eggroll and some won ton soup. Also, apparently that large size of soup that i thought i got on accident last time is actually the small. The broth was tasty and it was packed with 3 huge won tons. The bf and i were both satisfied and happy!

Love this place! I’ve carried out from here probably 10 times in a matter of 2 months, Combination fried rice with no beef. In fact, I’m sure they recognize me if they’re reading this review. You can’t beat the amount of food for the money. I am all about tons of good food(can’t call the food exceptional, but it’s good and always consistent which is key for me) for a decent price, and I guarantee you’d be hard-pressed to find a better value in the Wells Branch area. Go order from them to keep them in business!!! This is the third restaurant in that location since I’ve been here, so hopefully, with their great value and consistency, they can finally be the restaurant to make the cut in that lease.

The food here is great for the price, seriously huge portions too. One entrée is enough for 2 hungry people. All of the staff is super-duper nice too, always willing and helpful.

My lady and I decided it was high time we gave this place a good once-over — and so we did. Not a lot of patrons around, granted it was around 8:30 in the evening. The service was fantastic. VERY friendly folks. To be fair, it’s easy to pay extra special attention to your customers when you only have 3 tables to serve… so I can’t comment on how things are when this place is bumpin’, as it were. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken my girl had the Kung Pao Shrimp. We both added a small order of egg drop soup 1. Kung Pao Chicken: Let me start by saying I ran the Chinese food gamut back in college and this could very well be the tastiest Kung Pao Chicken I’ve ever had. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the chicken was superb, very tender. The brown sauce… perfect. So good. My girlfriend mirrored my thoughts on her Kung Pao Shrimp. 2. Egg Drop Soup: Fantastic. You figure, hey, it’s just egg drop soup… but in my experience most egg drop soups are a little on the bland side. These folks did it right — not too salty, lots of veggies. Good stuff. The place won’t win any awards for decoration or atmosphere, but the food and friendly service are well worth checking out. Like most Chinese restaurants you get enough food for two meals and a heaping pile of steamed rice to go with all entrees(as far as I could tell). Shutup and take my money!

Ok, hot and sour soup much improved! I am not used to the cold, so what better to warm you up than a spicy soup? I know I said it was bland before, but wasn’t I in for a surprise when I went back in and got a massive steaming bowl of Chinese happy. Amazing! And the owner remembered my nephew from when I brought my family in several months ago, I love these people!

Big bang for your buck here! Since Hunan Café took over the old Mai Lien(my favorite neighborhood eatery) we’ve been meaning to try it out. So last night we decided to try their delivery, which arrived exactly at the time promised. Beef egg rolls — Your typical Chinese style egg rolls with a good crunchy bite. It needed a bit more salt, but overall OK! Mongolian Beef — The quality of the meat was excellent. Bell peppers and onions were cooked just right but the sauce had too much soy. Would I eat it again, yes :) Shrimp Lo Mein — Gosh the noodles were just perfect. Al dente and flavored so well. They actually use fresh peeled shrimp with the poopy vein taken out too, yay! No frozen ingredients here! Chicken fried rice — It’s made with strips of white meat… holy wtf! And… fresh cut veggies too, what’s wrong here!!! Yes, this is one Chinese place that doesn’t cut corners. Kudos for freshness! I sure hope Hunan Café succeeds. You can tell they truly care about the overall quality and taste of every dish they put out. To top it off, the portions are HUGE, even for a fat person. This is a ton of food for your money.

My husband and I were in the area, well, we live in the neighborhood so I guess we are always in the area, and I had a craving for Chinese food. We went in and the funniest smell hit me. The entrance smelled of pb and j. Interesting, I know. The staff was very nice. We had the buffet. There was an okay selection. I guess I was just expecting more to choose from. What we had was good. And the fruit was really fresh. If there is one thing I hate is when I go to a buffet and the fruit is gross, but their fruit was good. The food in general was fresh and you could hear the sounds of new food being made. It was okay. But we probably won’t go back again.

Best Chinese food ever! I placed an order for delivery and was quoted 45 minutes. Delivery only took 20 minutes! Food was excellent, fresh and piping hot! I ordered the TSO Chicken and it was hands down the best TSO I have ever had! I will definitely order from Hunan Café again and again!

Pretty standard Chinese delivery. Nothing spectacular, but when you order take out, you have an idea of what to expect and that is exactly what I got. Great for a lazy night in, but if I were eating out I probably wouldn’t stop in.

After reading all the positive reviews, I stopped in at Hunan Café today for a late lunch. This place lives up to its Unilocal! My lunch partner and I were the only patrons and were greeted quickly and received freindly and professional service. The lunch specials include soup, egg roll, steam or fried rice and an entrée. I had the wonton soup and enjoyed the flavorful broth and large, firm wonton.(They were not the least bit mushy, like you often get when the soup has been kept warming for hours.) The entrée was much larger than the typical lunch serving, and the ingredients were fresh. I’ll be back, for sure!

Let me just say, wow! First. This place has had several renters/owners… all oriental food places. I enjoyed it when it was Wokaholic, though it wasn’t as good as it could have been, the portions were excellent. When Wokaholic went out of business, Mai Lien Bistro came in. This place was alright, though it was kind of pretentious in my opinion. The Phở wasn’t as good as our favorite Vietnamese restaurant’s, Hoemi. Mai Lien probably failed because of the mediocre food. Then, enter Hunan Café. The last reviewer made up my mind to go and try them out. I found that it was very deserving of the five star rating that was given. I will proceed to break down what I had there and finally, our experience. We ordered the pan fried dumplings. These dumplings were firm, not mushy and the filling and size of them was quite generous! The filling had a touch more vegetables than meat. If you don’t mind that, it’s very good. The dumpling sauce more than makes up for this. It’s extremely good, with plenty of onions and a good balance of flavor and even a touch of heat. I was very satisfied with the dumplings. Next we ordered the wonton soup. It’s a beef stock based broth. Generally I don’t like wonton soup with beef stock as a base, however, I will make a major exception for this wonton soup. It has a wonderfully light beef and onion flavor with a hint of ginger that is just plain excellent. It reminds me of the Tokyo Onion soup that I’m so fond of at Tokyo Steakhouse. The wontons are generous in size as well and firm, not mushy. The filling was a little on the spare side but very good quality. I was very satisfied with this as well. Next came the main course. We ordered their chicken fried rice(we have a standing policy that a oriental restaurant can be judged based on how good their fried rice or lo mein is) and black bean chicken, which I rarely enjoy at most of the places I’ve had it. The chicken fried rice was amazing. Since I’ve come to Austin, I haven’t had chicken fried rice that nearly matched my favorite style of chicken fried rice as well as Hunan Café’s. The chinese food place I loved most back then was a place called Panda Kitchen. Their fried rice was my absolute favorite and this place’s chicken fried rice is comparable in quality and flavor. It has peas, carrots, bean sprouts, green onions, egg, and chicken. The seasoning is light and excellent. I was extremely satisfied with it. The black bean chicken’s sauce was suprisingly savory. I was pleasantly shocked at first bite, as was my fiancé. It had spicy jalapenos, black bean sauce, chicken, bellpepper, onion, and probably garlic. I loved it! The good news doesn’t end there either. This place delivers to homes in a 5 mile radius. The minimum for delivery is 15.00, and 30.00(I think) for delivery without fee. The prices are a touch higher than other places in the area, but the quality makes it very worthwhile in my opinion. I highly recommend you try the food here, and if you like it, please support them. It would be a shame to lose this place.
