On a 100-degree Friday afternoon, at the time when most things typically break down, I discovered that our A/C unit was dead. Realizing I had very little time before it turned into a very sweaty and miserable weekend, I blindly called the closest A/C service company near my house in Oak Hill, which turned out to be Hank’s. The person answering the phone was very competent and had a service technician at my house in less than 20 minutes. I couldn’t believe it! He worked very fast and had first the condenser and then the motor replaced quickly. I was also able to get our home warranty to agree ahead of time to cover it. In under two hours, we were back up and running… he even told us how to correct an issue with our air filter that was putting unnecessary stress on the A/C system.

This is not a review of their service — because they never came and this was after they called 2 days after I made an appt to cancel that appt. This was for appliance repair. I made an appt on Tuesday for a Friday visit – they called on Wed to cancel saying that their tech was taking the day off. I rescheduled for Thursday between 9 – 1 and then I had to cancel because it’s after 2pm and they STILL have not called. I am glad I rescheduled my day to make arrangements to be available to PAYTHEMMONEY… but I guess they have all they need. Next!

Hank’s Service was a lifesaver for my father & I. After Stan’s Heating & Air Conditioning had no compassion for an elderly, ailing health resident in the heat; telling us we had to wait 11 days for a motor, I lost love for Stan. Greedy. But, that will be a review on Stan’s page. This review is for Hank’s Service. Hank came out the next morning, replaced the motor that Stan said would take 11 days to get in; & Hank even had it on his truck! Hank is a very nice man, showed up when he said he would, and got daddy & I back in the cool. And, the cost for the motor was the same as Stan’s quote, within two dollars. Hank wanted to genuinely help us. Stan just wanted my money by trying to sell me a brand new unit. Stan loses all the way around. Hank is the winner & has my future business. Go with your mom & pop shops, & leave the big companies where they stand. ADDENDUM: I found out that Stan’s Heating & Air Conditioning has universal motors on every one of their trucks. They could have put a new motor on my unit that night, or at least the next day. But, they chose not to in order to sell me a brand new unit. When I didn’t buy a new unit, they certainly couldn’t then say«oh wait, I happen to have a new motor on my truck that I can install right now.» So, they sacrificed the humanitarian care for an ill-health elderly person for their greed and pride.

Should have read the reviews on this. Boy is this a rip off! The guy came and said we had no power to our dishwasher and that’s why it wouldn’t work. He charged us $ 65 and said he couldn’t help us. I had another company out and there is definitely power to the dishwasher. I guess he just didn’t feel like working that day. Phone operator is cranky too. She sounds like she can’t believe you’re bothering her by calling for service!

My mom has been using Hank’s service since she moved into her home 11 years ago… Hank’s has worked on the air conditioner and the washer and dryer in the past… Have always received good and efficient service at reasonable prices… This week Hank’s came out the day after I called for service on A/C… Hank was very courteous and efficient… Now we are cool again… Thanks, Hank!

This guy is a total rip off & not to be trusted. Came out the other day to fix our air conditioner and charged us 1043. Got a qoute the following day which was less. Do not be victim.

Please beware of positive postings for Hank’s non-service. On June 16, 2010, we informed the office manager and the Better Business Bureau that we would be posting a report on and, sure enough, suddenly there was a positive posting for the company. And there will be more, I’m sure, as Hank and his office staff begin posting raves about their own company(which has had no feedback of any kind on Unilocal until now). On Saturday, June 12, 2010, we received a phone call from Hank, the owner of Hank’s Service, Inc, telling us it is time to perform our annual spring-check of our air-conditioning system. The next day we noticed water running down the front of our house from the porch ceiling just above the front door. The air conditioning unit is in the attic, and the water was coming from the backup drain for the a/c. We returned Hank’s call to set up the appointment and were told that a technician would be coming to our house Monday morning. Hank himself showed up, and since we had not yet used our prepaid spring system checkup, he did that, and also said that he had cleaned out whatever was stopping up our primary drain line, and that if the secondary drain didn’t stop dripping down the front of our house, to call him and he would come back and take care of it. He blamed it on the«high humidity,» which we thought was strange, since Austin ALWAYS has high humidity in the summer. The dripping got much worse, so the next morning we called Hanks’ Service to report that, and to ask that Hank or someone come out and take care of the problem as Hank had said he would. We were told that someone would stop by. No one did, despite repeated phone calls, and finally the office manager told us we were on the schedule for Wednesday morning. By nine A.M. Weds, June 16, no one had called us, so we called the office yet again and were told that we were definitely on the morning schedule. By 2PM no one had shown up or called, again despite repeated phone calls from us. Then around 3PM, a technician called to say that Hank had told him to call us and tell us that if he came over to do the«repair» he would charge us $ 159. We pointed out that Hank had committed to coming back to fix the problem, but the technician just said that’s what he had been told to say. We told him that we were not going to pay that kind of money for a process that would probably take less than a half an hour. In retrospect, we think he may have made the problem worse on purpose, just so he could return and collect money this time, over and above the high bi-annual maintenance charge we paid him last year. We called Delfino Torres of Del’s Heating and A/C service around 3:30. He showed up when he said he would(exactly one hour later) and fixed the problem in less than ten minutes for less than half the charge that Hank had quoted. Hank is clearly in need of money and we suspected from the very beginning of our follow-up phone calls that he wouldn’t come back unless he could make more money from us, aside from the money already paid for his seasonal maintenance. He also gave us a really hard hustle to do something to the A/C system in our attic in January, 2010, that would have totaled over $ 700. Since he came across as a desperate con man, we decided that we would not use him again for any service, maintenance or otherwise. And we still haven’t needed to have the work done that he hustled us for back in January. BEWAREOFHANK’S SERVICEINC!
