chinatown center one year anniversary and moon festival

This weekend was the one-​year anniversary of Austin’s chinatown center and they threw a great party!
Chinatown Center was also celebrating the Moon Festival and the largest Mooncake in Texas was displayed proudly at the MT grocery.
This behemoth mooncake was quite impressive. 30″ in girth, it weighed in at 90 pounds and took 3 hours to bake. I had heard it advertised and thought myself a little nuts for actually wanting to see this mooncake, but it was really quite cool. It was displayed in a glass case in the Foyer of the MT market and boasted chinese script I could not read, but also has written on it in dough a spanish translation welcoming people to the moon festival. I thought that was SO COOL. It warmed my heart. I heart Austin. oh – and tons of people were taking cellphone pics of this thing. I was stupid not to have done that so I could have shared it with y’all.
I am really glad I stopped in this afternoon to check out the festival and the mooncake. I am sorry I didn’t stop in yesterday. Today, I just missed the lion dancers which totally bummed me out because lion dancers are just the best. I did get to see some good wushu and lots and LOTS of people milling about. The events were well organized and they had rent-​a-​cops making sure everyone got parked ok. The MT was PACKED and I waited at the short n sweet a good while to get my durian shake. Good Times. Did I mention that I **Heart** Austin?
