This place is awesome! Usually I’m not a huge fan of Banh Mi but the sandwiches here were the best I’ve ever had by far. The bread is nice and crispy and the BBQ meat I had was really taste. If you are looking for something cheap and tasty and are in the Chinatown market area then you should definitely stop in.

Pretty good I would give it three stars for value, but do yourself a favor and do NOT order a regular sandwich(American style) like ham and cheese. Go with the Bbq pork or beef while the plain Jane Black Forest ham and cheese is sadly one slice of meat and a slice of cheese… The more interesting are the sandwiches that you might not recognize. Their beef jerky was pretty darn good.(I bought a To go container) I was pleased w it. Anyhow the bread is AMAZING. Aside from that I wouldn’t go back(were it not for the bread.

Why are we eating so much banh mi? Another dac biet, for the records. We liked what we had. Crispy outer, traditional inner. They use the mayonnaise, which I’m not a fan of for gross anti-mayo reasons, but it makes the food good. We’ll stop by here once in a while. Need to try some of the other menu items to judge the consistency. If I can say any banh mi reminds me of home, it will be here. Baguette House, and that faint memory of Little Saigon.

Worst beef stew I’ve ever had. I don’t know if it was bad because it was a to-go order but so disappointed. $ 9 to the trash. All the beef had access amount of fat and tendons. And only 3 pieces of carrot. No other veggies or anything.

Whenever I am in the Chinatown market area in NW Austin, I try to make it a point to stop by Baguette House for one thing and one thing only. Their Banh Mi sammiches. Quite possibly the only place in Austin that nails the simple recipe on the head compared to the more expensive and«trendy» places around town. The reason they nail it is because they know the secret to a great Banh Mi sandwich is the freshness of the bread! Nice n crisp on the outside, hot and soft inside. And their bread isn’t all that«bready» meaning you get to enjoy great portions of bread and meat in every bite. Most places serve it like a subway sandwich, which in my opinion can ruin a sandwich. No fancy or overpowering sauces or gimmicks to be found here. I ordered 2 of their sandwiches. BBQ Pork and the Beef. And I gotta give it to the beef this round. It was so much juicier and tastier than the pork. But still, both were very good in their own right. Cilantro, carrots and jalapeño all joined together for the perfect flavor bash and I couldn’t have been happier. If you want the real deal when it comes to Banh Mi in Austin, this is a great place to start!

Came here since I was hungry after getting a haircut in the plaza. Saw all the reviews saying that sandwiches were about $ 3 each, so we thought it would be a better alternative to Lily’s, but they have jacked up prices by $ 1 across the board in the past month or two. There really aren’t many good places to get a Banh Mi in Austin, and Baguette House follows that trend. The BBQ Pork sandwich came out to be about $ 5 after tax. Thought that might be a decent deal still since the lady there told me sandwiches were 10 inches each. However, there is barely anything in the sandwiches, especially if you’re looking for meat. It was also weird that the bbq pork sandwich used a Chinese style meat rather than what typical places call bbq pork. Anyways, I ordered another sandwich right after since I was still hungry and looking for the usual pork filling. I asked the cashier what the pork meatloaf one was, and I thought what she said fit the description, but it turned out to be cold cuts instead. Not a fan of that. I think the one good thing about this place is that the bread is unique, hence the name of the establishment. I’m from Houston, where there are literally a hundred places to go for a good $ 3 Banh Mi. I know the Austin scene is much more bare, but Ng BMT is definitely the place to go around here. And, in this particular Chinatown plaza, Lily’s is the better alternative.

Came here with my 60 year old picky Vietnamese dad. We had the combination banh mi, a baguette to take home, and the Vietnamese iced coffee. I was impressed— but let’s be real, you wanna know what my dad thinks, not me. He thought it was pretty good and would come back. There’s a reason lots of people come here. You won’t get a banh mi with 70% bread like you would at a mediocre banh mi shop. Oh, and I did come back the next day. Got the hainanese chicken and rice. All the right flavors and a good sized portion.

I was craving a bahn mi when I got into Austin. So I saw this place on Unilocal and I got the bbq pork bahn mi. It was good, but I wish they gave more meat on it. However, the bread was nice and chewy it was not old like some other places. The inside of the place is clean and they have restrooms that are not dirty. The sandwich was good, but the lack of meat on my sandwich sucked. If I go back, I think I will try their traditional bahn mi sandwich.

Arrival — I had scouted the location ahead of time via Google maps so walking here was easy. I arrived at 11:40, just in time for a late breakfast or early lunch. Appearance– Clean, trendy, well-lit. There are two 40″ televisions on site, one showing news and the other displaying sports, neither has its volume turned up which was fine by me. There is some soft top 40-style music coming from the kitchen area but one could easily carry on a conversation at their table. There is a good mix of customers or all ethnicities and genders. The location is amongst several Asian shops in an area known as the Chinatown Center(not my name) and it is probably aptly named. Weapons Restrictions– None were noted so you are probably fine to carry either openly or concealed. I typically carry concealed so I’ve decided to begin adding a «Weapons Restrictions» section to each of my Unilocal reviews, I’d like to ask others to do the same, regardless your stance on firearms, it can help avoid unintentional drama which most people who carry legally do not desire anyway. Please help me in this endeavor. My Order — I had ordered #37 which was a rice dish w/chicken and added a Thai iced tea and a bottle of water as my drinks. I placed my order at the counter and took a seat that would allow me to charge my phone while I ate. There were at least three tables that were near power outlets leaving me my choice of six available plugs for my phone, well, actually it left four because one table was occupied and I didn’t want to join the big hairy guy at his table, no offense. My food arrived quickly, hot and ready to consume, which I did. I finished the entire meal and am currently working on the Thai tea. The tea is quite different, if you’ve ever seen rusty antifreeze then you could picture this tea, I’ll try to remember to take a pic before I finish it. The pic will not do it justice though, it actually tastes pretty good; it has a bit of a spicy, Chai bite to it which I like, your taste may differ. I did finish my entire meal but that’s not due to the portion size being small, it was actually a nice size and included plenty of chicken and rice so I am full. The reasons I chose this restaurant were twofold, first, they offered free WiFi which I am using now and second, they had excellent reviews unlike the Jack in the Box which was my other nearby restaurant choice and about 15 minutes closer in walking time. As my 5-star review indicates, the prior reviews were indeed justified, this place is top notch. One final note, the guy who placed and filled my order just sat down at the table next to me and he is eating the same food so either we both have horrible taste in food and very low standards or this place lives up to its reviews. OK, just one final, FINAL note, I managed to loiter until 3:00 in the afternoon without getting kicked out, rest assured though, I would have left and freed up the space if it had gotten crowded but it never did. I’m not saying that they didn’t have plenty of business, it’s just that several folks got their meals to go and the others sat, ate and departed. .. except for this one guy who appeared to be typing a Unilocal review :-)

You have to love any culture that combines the best of Asian cuisine with French baguettes and dark as sin black coffee. And the Baguette House is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots for Vietnamese goodies in Austin. I’ve had banh mi sandwiches all over California(Westminster and the San Jose area) and this matches the quality of many of the best places I’ve eaten. The bread is fresh, with a crispness that makes the bread crackle with the drool-worthy sound I’ve only heard in a French bakery or in a deliriously good part of the Pixar movie ‘Ratatouille’. My personal favorite is the House Special Combination, which is a slice of heaven containing jambon, head cheese, pork meat loaf, and pâté. In order, for those more familiar with lunch meats that come with a first and last name, that’s: cured ham, less-processed bologna, just-what-it-sounds like, and the French/Vietnamese Secret Weapon X of sandwich glory. The flavor combination produced is both light and dripping with umami.(Go look up what that is if you don’t already know — Google is your friend!). It’s probably a little exotic for those used to Western sandwiches, but they do have staples like Black Forest Ham and Roast Turkey. Also worthy of mention: the basic baguette is available for $ 1.85 if you want to take the bread home to make your own creations, the fresh croissants, which are a buttery meal in and of themselves, should not be missed, and by all means try an iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk when the temperature hits 80 or more. Pro Tip: The ‘Chinatown Center’ where this shop is located tends to be heavily trafficked. It’s best to come in and get out via Ferguson Street, especially if you’re coming off of Lamar Ave. This place pegs the ‘CTJ Scale’ at 5 stars, as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus’ Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn’t have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn’t have my penultimate supper here, either.

UNH. Hands down the best baguette I’ve had in a minute. SO fresh — crunchy yet somehow not painfully so… just right. Shockingly perfect baguette. This place would totally be a solid 4 stars except for the banh mi aren’t exactly generously filled(which isn’t uncommon? at least to me) Had my sandwich had more pork flirting with the veggies, I’d be turning cartwheels. Gotta try that paté chaud one of these days. Huzzah for perfect baguettes.

I am probably addicted to this place. The bread is SO crunchy on the outside/chewy on the inside, the vegetables are perfectly pickled, the service is VERY speedy, and the prices are just so darn reasonable! From what I’ve tried, this is definitely in the top tier of Banh mi restaurants in Austin. Im personally a fan of the grilled pork banh mi, but everything I’ve had is pretty good. Nothing special about the atmosphere of the restaurant itself, so for me, Baguette house is AMAZING take out. I’ve brought a picnic basket and picked up a few sandwiches, cakes and bottled soft drinks here — and headed straight to zilker for a quick impromptu outdoor lunch. It was SO reasonable and convenient! Last week, I chickened out from cooking for a big group of my husbands friends. It just seemed… like a lot of work? So instead, I headed to baguette house to pick up a LOT of sandwiches(which they quickly made, veggies on the side), cut them up when I got home, put them on a nice platter, and let the compliments on my food choice roll in.(A lot of my hubs’ friends had never heard of Baguette house — I was happy to introduce them.) Fast, reasonable, and incredibly tasty — 3 strikes of awesome!

Okay, after more than a year since my last visit, I guess I had forgotten just how bad my first visit was here. Long story short, they saved their worst for my second and final visit here. I ordered the BBQ which was average but a lot better than the combo that my friend had ordered. I was showing him Vietnamese cuisine and there’s not much to choose from here in Austin as compared to Houston. So it was important that he at least didn’t hate what he was eating. Half way through I could tell he wasn’t enjoying his combo very much so I told him he could have the other half of my BBQ. He agreed and we swapped. He also agreed that my BBQ was a lot better and I agreed that his combo was the worst bánh mì ever. Disclaimer: review gets a bit more graphic and a lot more honest from here on. Later that evening, we got sick. The smell that kept coming up whenever I had a burp was the ham from the combo. Needless to say, my system was telling me to un-swallow that half of a combo. Which I did and I felt a lot better. Never again, Baguette House.

When in need of a Vietnamese Banh Mi come here. You can’t beat the prices and they are all delicious. Location is a bit hard to find when you arrive at the entrance to Chinatown Austin. It’s on the corner next to the tofu shop. The bread is so buttery and crunchy, which to me is the most important part to a great sandwich. Next time I’m in Austin id like to try some of the other items they offer. If you come in the morning and hear lots of talking and yelling, don’t be alarmed. It’s the old Vietnamese guys drinking coffee and playing cards or dominos. They like to hang out at these types of cafes. Enjoy and order a Thai tea.

Hands down the best vegetarian banh mi in Austin. Also the best baguette. I tried Ng BMT, but that place isn’t even close to how good this place is! I have serious cravings for this sandwich, and once I have that craving, I need my fix. What I love about this place is that the tofu is thinly sliced, so it has more surface area to absorb the sauces and seasoning. The vegetables are in the perfect proportion, and then there is fresh cilantro to top it all off. Also did I mention how good the baguette is? Yes, its the best. Just go here and give them your money.

No longer are my starstruck eyes dazzled by Baguette House. Its an all right place that serves a good selection of Banh Mi sandwiches, sweet drinks, and sweeter desserts. Location: –Plenty of parking in this outdoor shopping area. Except on Lunar New years. Pros: –decent variety –Clean/my inner interior designer says«it reminds you of late 2000’s» –Bread is fresh –Inexpensive. –People are nice. Would not say you need an interpreter for this place. English is fine. Cons: –I’m gonna lay it on you heavy that the cuts of meat are thin as paper. Some people like that for their diets, but its suppose to be lego block sized(the Cha Lua). High-five for vegetarians! For my Banh Mi Enthusiasts: 1. You will make me sad if you mention any Banh Mi place from SoCal. 2. I never trust ordering Banh Mi from a Restaurant; strictly bakery or sandwich shop only. 3. The inspection for the meat, bread, freshness of the greens is important. If it comes with a 2 for 1 deal or free milk tea then its a winner. 4. Lee’s Sandwiches is as exciting as a nickelback song. Recommendations: Nothing wrong with getting fresh baguettes here, side order of the butter/pâté, the meats & veggies at MT supermarket. Oh, the Maggi soy sauce is the top notch soy sauce for the sandwiches. If you want to get fancy for that special someone, just ornament their banquette with a sunny egg on top.

Went here today for the first time as I was looking for a place semi-near work that I could grab a quick banh mi for my late lunch(I usually have lunch around 4:30−5pm) and the reviews sold me. It is located in the Chinatown Center off North Lamar and it is usually a battle to navigate anywhere in this plaza(I don’t know why, but there are always little traffic jams strewn throughout so I usually have to add 5mins just in entry/exit times here!), but I went in off Ferguson and it is right at the turn in to the plaza, so if you can take the«back way» do, it will save you time and frustration! It is very nice and contemporary inside and their menu is pretty straight forward. They have a lot to choose from, but as I was in a time crunch and I was a woman on a banh mi mission, I didn’t really peruse all their offerings. I got the chicken banh mi sans jalapeños and a thai tea w/tapioca(there is a $ 0.50 upcharge for the tapioca pearls). The chicken banh mi was good, but I don’t feel like it lived up to all the hype I’d read in other reviews and based on other banh mi I have had in the area. It is on a very narrow baguette and the bread was a little harder than I would have liked. Also, because the baguette is long and skinny, I didn’t feel like there was a lot of meat or veggies and the mayo was definitely on the very minimal side. It was ok flavor, but again, I have had better(and bigger). $ 3.85 is an ok price for what you get, but I didn’t feel it was the über bargain raved about in others’ reviews. As for the Thai Tea w/tapioca, this was very good and I liked having the option to add the tapioca pearls. My only gripe here would be waaaaay too much ice for the $ 4($ 3.50+$.50 for the tapioca) I paid for the size of the drink. The staff was very nice and though a little hard to understand, I was able to get exactly what I ordered. All in all, glad I gave them a try, but I think I will explore some other banh mi options before I return.

My bff, Kim K and I were in this neck of the woods looking for a little substance the other day. We were both looking to not spend a whole lot of money too. Kim immediately mentioned the Baguette House along with a another option. Then we compared overall star ratings on Unilocal of course … and boom ended up at Baguette House. When I approached the counter I saw the classic sandwiches listed out on the menu and I was immediately like … whoa! I loved the prices that were listed. I ended up ordering the #7 meatball classic sandwich and a thai tea. The sandwich was 3 bucks and change … that is amazing already and I have not even tasted it yet. Kim and I found a table and then enjoyed our food. I was surprised at the Asian flavors that came out in my sandwich … cilantro, marinated carrot and cucumber. The meatball mixture was flavorful too. Overall I loved everything I had here and look forward to trying more the menu!

Our boss recommended this place and got our orders to go for us today at work. I was skeptical at first, being part Vietnamese and all, but I have to say that this place met my expectations with the bánh mì. I normally hate the picked carrot and daikon, but I put everything on my sandwich: the pickled stuff and cilantro and jalapeños. It seemed inexpensive and these are the best bánh mì I’ve had in Austin.
