The shrimp fried rice was excellent. Not too much soy sauce and a decent amount of shrimp. This was our favorite dish on our table. We were all in agreement. Also, on our table was shrimp with snow peas and grilled pork chop with steamed rice. These two dishes were okay. My parents said the pork chop was bland. The shrimp dish was nothing exciting. Our appetizers were fried egg rolls and egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was a bright orange color but tasty. The egg rolls were good and came with Romaine lettuce and fish sauce for dipping. I was surprised at the condition of the women’s restroom. It was pretty dirty. There is a desk in there that is dying for a good cleaning. It was gross.

Friendly service, reasonable prices. However they don’t have tofu bahn mis, other than that everything was great. They do have vegan options.

Best Bun Rieu and BBH in town. Great staff and great service too. I come here at least twice a month.

If Phở Saigon wasn’t a couple doors down I could give one more star. When trying new Vietnamese I order the Bun or Com Thit Nuong. It was good, but a little plain. The spring rolls were excellent and I love they serve both Chinese and Vietnamese. Not all the members of our lunch crew like Vietnamese, so that works out.

A family member recommended this place while in Austin, and since I love Vietnamese food we decided to give it a try. I had the Bun bo hue and it wasn’t bad at all. The portion size was huge and came with all the fixings(cabbage, jalapeños, bean sprouts…). The soup was spicy enough, and the meats(beef slices, pigs feet, and pork blood) were flavorful. Will definitely need to try new items next time I’m in Austin again.

Saw this place while eating at Phở Saigon Noodle House a couple of doors down. Phở Saigon was decent, but we wanted to check out more Viet restaurants in the area so we went to Duy’s the next day. My husband ordered their shaken beef(bo luc lac). Meat was overcooked – tough to chew. I ordered off their lunch menu(which comes with an eggroll and choice of fried or steamed rice, egg drop or hot & sour soup). Got the stir fried chicken and jalapenos. Although the portion was good, the sauce was on the sweet side. Not a fan. Their fried rice was very bland and dry. Egg drop soup was almost orange-looking(food coloring, maybe?). Eggroll was not pork, but cabbage and potato? I should know better than to order Americanized Chinese dishes though. Although service was friendly, I would have to take Duy’s off my bookmarked list for Viet food the next time I’m in Austin.

Normally pretty good. But a cockroach on a poster inside the restaurant freaked me out a bit. Not sure if I will ever go back.

Don’t ever order the sugar cane juice. It tasted terrifyingly metallic regardless of the assurance I received that it was indeed made on site. There was a film of tiny bubbles/foam over the ice in the styrofoam cup as well. Maybe it was made a few months ago and refrigerated. But! The food portions are big, and the flavors are delicious. The waitstaff are polite and friendly. I ordered the papaya/beef jerky appetizer and one of the beef noodle dishes. The bowl of noodles was bigger than a human face and full of fresh vegetables underneath the noodles(that was pretty awesome). The appetizer was plentiful and enough for five people(we were two). This place will be revisited, but I would hesitate to order anything that doesn’t look popular. I mean, I guess I won’t be ordering that jackfruit smoothie(sigh). Three stars and worthy of second chance despite dodgy expired-juice-from-an-aluminum-can.

Rice dishes, check. Bun rieu(an understated vietnamese soup noodle dish, crab based), check. Bun thit nuong, check. Side soup, check. Looks like everything checks out and it’s delicious. I’m so happy I found this gem here for all my homemade Vietnamese food needs. Food tastes great, portions are big, people are friendly. Price is okay, but I’m getting used to inflation now. The woman at the counter is very sweet and professional, as is the whole staff. The food comes fast, so expect to be fed well, and fed full(I had delicious leftovers for breakfast!). I think this place has been around for decades too, so that’s always cool that the food is consistent.

10STARS! I am unsure why I have never posted a review for Duy! We LOVEDUY! We have been going there since they first opened and have been returning once a month. The owners are the nicest people and treat us like we are a part of the family. The staff are all so sweet and always so attentive to your needs. The food is delicious! Everything is so fresh! Everything is so affordable. Duy is the place for Vietnamese if you ask me!

This is NOT a 4 star restaurant. Hummm, Unilocal changed my rating. It’s only a ONE star rating. I won’t return.

Yes, the portions are large but… the food is super plain. It’s so simple that you can make it yourself and I’m neither asian nor a particularly good cook. There’s an asian grocery store in the same strip mall. There you can buy rice noodles, chicken, peanuts, and lettuce. Cook the noodles, grill the chicken, throw the noodles over the lettuce. Toss on the chicken and the peanuts. That’s their«chicken vermicelli». I. Kid. You. Not.

My neighbor and I stumbled upon this place driving down Lamar. I’ve only visited here once, but I will definitely be visiting again. It’s not that far from my job, which is a big added bonus. I have been to other Chinese restaurants in the area, but this is the best I’ve had here in the Austin area. The crab cheese wontons are to die for. I also had the house fried rice. Everything was fresh, not like some places I’ve been to where the rice and meat are hard because the food has been sitting under a heat lamp or something. The staff was very courteous and attentive. I had plenty of leftovers which were just as good warmed up as it was when it was first served to me. Visit this place if you have a taste for Chinese food! You will not be disappointed!

Very good bun. I had the 42, grilled pork and shrimp. Very pleasant waiter. I saw that many people had the phở. I’ll be back to try some. The lunch menu was all Chinese food. Wish there was a bun and/or phở lunch item.

I LOVE Vietnamese food! And Duy is hands down the best Vietnamese food I’ve had in Austin! Their phở and vermicelli bowls are as good as the ones I’ve had in Vietnam! I’m surprised this place is not more full all the time. It’s definitely a hidden gem!

Ate here on a whim and spent more time than I should’ve deciding on which dish to pick. I ordered the Bún bò Hu, a noodle soup with sliced beef, pig’s knuckles, and congealed pig blood. Overall, the soup was pretty good, the noodles refreshing, and the meat was cooked just right. I’m not a huge fan of pig’s blood though, but I won’t hold it against them. Their beef stew is absolutely delicious. I ordered it with rice on the side and everything from the french bread, meat, and vegetables made me warm all over. My friend ordered the crispy noodles with chicken. Everything tasted good, but the noodles were fried so heavily that the sauce didn’t stand a chance making them soft. I like a good balance between crispy and soft noodles, and it was essentially eating noodle chips for an entire meal. It didn’t make eating them any easier either, since the noodles essentially didn’t want to come apart.

Get the Canh Ga Nuoc Mam. For you English speakers, ask for the chicken wings with fish sauce. It is the best thing EVER. Screw Pluckers, the wings are to DIE for. You can’t find it anywhere else in town. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Duy is such a sweet owner. He always says hello, big smile on his face, and he and his staff always make you feel welcome. Bun bo hue is still one of my favorite dishes there. So is the bo luc lac. And the eggrolls. Oh, just EVERYthing, ok?!

When I opened the door to this restaurant, it had the typical Vietnamese restaurant smell. I knew I was in an authentic Vietnamese restaurant lol. Service is so-so. Not bad, but not the best. My bf and I ordered spring rolls, com ga hai nam(boiled chicken with chicken flavored rice and fish sauce), and bo luc lac(shake beef). The spring rolls were pretty good, but was mostly filled with the noodles and lettuce which made me 1⁄3 full. The com ga hai nam was pretty good and was enough for me to take home. The rice could have had more of a chicken flavor to it, but it wasn’t bad. The broth that came with it was soooo good. Some people just drizzle the soup over their entrée, but I had a spoonful of it after every bite I took out of my entrée. Its such a simple soup/broth with onions but was cooked well. The bo luc lac however, had a humungous amount of rice and only a few pieces of the beef on it. When it came out I was literally like, are you freaking kidding me? My bf was definitely disappointed as it the ratio was definitely off. The beef itself didn’t taste like the typical bo luc lac, but it wasn’t bad. Halfway through eating out meal, they turned out on the TV to apparently the newest Paris By Night. For all you Vietnamese people out there I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Nothing is better than eating your food while listening to some Viet-pop or cai luong(sike, I hate this shit). And they couldn’t have turned it out any louder as well. I’m sure the non-Vietnamese people were like«wtf is this» when they heard/saw it too lol. I want to come back and try their banh bot chien and bun bo hue. Hopefully they won’t play that Paris By Night shit again!
