A true home cooking. Cheap, fast, and delicious. I’ve been coming for about a year now and their quality has remained the same.

I may fall asleep at my cubicle as soon as I post this review. Not because I’m tired but because I think I ate too much. Surprisingly, I didn’t even finish my food, which is rare for me. Talk about getting a lot of bang for your buck, $ 6 goes very far here! For that price, you get one protein and two sides with a drink. For me, I chose to go with the pulled chicken over rice, mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese. Thankfully, cornbread comes with the meal as well, so that’s a huge plus for me since I can’t envision eating a southern meal without it. Like Chris Rock says, «cornbread, ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!» Overall, the food was okay, not bad but not great either. With places like these, I feel that the focus is more on the bargain rather than serving high quality food and that’s alright because I felt that’d be the case going in. The chicken was tender and the sauce was seasoned just right. It paired well with the rice, as the rice didn’t absorb all of the juice, so the integrity of the texture was kept intact throughout. The mashed potatoes were okay, they weren’t clumpy or runny, but somewhere in between. I got the impression that they may have been instant mashed potatoes but I could be wrong. The macaroni, well, not much was going on there. Although it was bland, it did have some creaminess to it. To my surprise, the cornbread was decent, it wasn’t dry and there was no flaking. Quite tasty. For the interior, it had the old school feel to it, like a diner that you’d encounter in the middle of the country. For service, there was only one lady working the line, however, she was very nice and moved quickly. She also served generous portions, so that’s a huge plus. For drinks, I believe there are two options, sweet tea and lemonade. I’m a tea kind of guy, preferably unsweet, but settled for the sweet this time around. The tea was not bad, didn’t taste sugary at all, which is quite shocking for me as a lot of places get carried away with the sugar. They may serve soda, but I don’t recall seeing a fountain. So what’s the verdict? With a bargain price, generous portions, and fast service, I can definitely see myself coming back here again.

Needed something good to eat that would hold me for a while. Soul food came to mind. This place is close to where I live. Bigger on the inside than it looks. Good solid hearty meal. Flavors were good. 6 bucks for a home cooked meal and drink is excellent. Servers were friendly. Place is old but clean. Food was good. Not a date spot but if you’re hungry, stop by. My mother enjoyed the fried chicken.

Southern food with a bent on soul style cooking. They are open for breakfast as well. A typical meat n three frequented by nearby state government/military personnel. Prices here are bargain basement cheap, with a meat and two sides, cornbread, and drink for $ 6 even. Entrée choices include fried/baked chicken, cube steak, pork chops, and tips. Ox-tails cost extra as usual. Sides include mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, yams… etc. When you pay, they give you a cup to a self-serve tea/lemonade station, soda fountain also available. Overall a great deal and a filling lunch. Food quality is pretty good, though I could tell ingredients are on the bottom end of the quality spectrum; you do get what you pay for, and for what you pay for… the food is very good. For slightly higher prices, K&K Soul Food in Bankhead serves better food. However, if you are looking for the best quality soul food, go to Busy Bee’s. Service is friendly and cafeteria style; the line moves fast. The inside reminds me of old time southern diners, and sitting space is plenty.

Wow. Now I know where the expression«food so good it’ll make you wanna slap your mama» comes from. This food is no joke! You want real food, this is it!

Bargain priced Southern comfort food in an unassuming little joint next door to Zesto and across the street from Burger King, near the intersection of Moreland and E Confederate Ave. This is a meat-and-sides place with cafeteria-style counter service. Servings are generous and there’s a vat of sweet tea alongside one of lemonade so you can make your own ginormous half-and-half. Menu varies, but there’s usually baked chicken that’s fall-off-the-bone tender. Oxtails are popular with the regulars.
