Overly big on style. Lack luster on substance. Owner checking-in could have been flattering but was such a douche about what he had to say. Hilariously, it is shut down now!

Went for a weekday lunch and wasn’t all that impressed… sorry, Zaza. Both my friend and I ordered the lamb sandwich(but on different kinds of bread), yet they came out looking identical. The flavor was fairly weak, partly because the pepper jelly was very thinly spread, and the cheese didn’t taste freshly sliced. Also I could have sworn the meat was roast beef, but they assured me it was lamb. Their homemade potato chips were pretty good, if a tad thin. I didn’t take advantage of it, but there is a small pastry counter at the front that appeared to have several tasty options. And the meal did end up being quite cheap because of ScoutMob, so it wasn’t all bad.

Had brunch here on a Sunday afternoon. We walked in just at closing time but they were cool serving us anyway, which was great. The patio seating is nice, but if you’re sittng closest to the road, be prepared for panhandlers hitting you up. Gotta love Atlanta. I had the tomato salad to start, which was refreshing and tart, with creamy gorgonzola cheese. Delicous! For my main I ordered the bacon-wrapped brook trout with a port wine reduction. Tasty! All in all, a nice meal on a gorgeous Sunday Fall afternoon.

Tried out 5th Street Café for lunch today and can’t wait to go back. Located on 5th and Peachtree, where Eno used to be, this cute little café is perfect for lunch, but I can also seeing it being a fun scene for a post-work drink/bar scene. I had the Croque Madame, which had a poached egg vs fried or over easy egg on top, which left a lot of clear egg goo on the sandwich. I’m a fan of the traditional preparation, but they did warn me that it was poached. Also had their soup of the day, which was a butternut squash and it was absolutely fantastic. I’d go back for the soup alone! Perfect for Fall. My friend got the chicken salad, which said on the menu that it had apple, golden raisins and celery, but she didn’t see any apple in it at all, and there were also pecans in there — which would have been good to have been included on the menu for people with nut allergies. Even with these quibbles, she said it was very good and I want to try it next time I’m there. The chips that came with the sandwiches were very good and we got a sample of the Monkey Bar from the bakery side of the restaurant, which was also fantastic. Got a Baker’s Dozen of cookies for $ 9 to go for my co-workers. They had a really nice mix of oatmeal raisin, choc chip, choc snaps, ginger snaps, and peanut butter cookies. I used my Scoutmob again for this, so got $ 15 off my bill, which was half including the cookies. Really reasonably priced, even without the discount. Would have liked to sit on the patio, but Peachtree is just so loud with the traffic! UPDATE: So bummed this place closed!

Fresco is the best drink to order at 5th Street Café, hands down. And it definitely lives up to its name. With fresh muddled mint and cucumber mixed with sweet grapefruit juice and Jose Cuervo Silver, my parched self was incredibly happy after my first sip. My friend ordered the Bön Voyage drink, which was a combination of Four Roses Bourbon, Cynar, maraschino, and celery bitters(note: she’s hardcore and bourbon on the rocks is drink of choice) was happy with her drink, although she did mention it was a bit too sweet for her. She also didn’t appreciate a bourbon drink being served in a martini glass, but that’s more about her than the actual drink. Our courses were great as well. I ordered the chicken milanese, which was topped with mixed green and cherry tomatoes, and served with an amazing saffron aioli cream sauce. I almost licked the plate. The chicken was tender, fried to a nice crisp without being overly greasy, and the sauce was light, slightly tart, creamy and left me wanting more. It all worked really well together. My friend ordered the bacon wrapped brook trout, which was paired with a port wine reduction. Although not Jewish by birth, she is experimenting the religion and attempting a kosher lifestyle. She decided the sin meal was worth every bit of guilt that was felt after she cleaned most of her plate. The trout was seasoned well, incredibly moist, and had a great overall smokey flavor from being wrapped in bacon. The bacon was crisp, flavorful, and left us lamenting how much kosher people miss out on. Great entrees and great drinks allowed us to have great coversation and catch up on each other’s lives without having to focus the conversation on the banality of our food.

They somehow impressed me with brunch??? Well done 5th St. In all honesty, that fact that we could buy bread and cupcakes from their bakery as we were leaving made 5th St. Café 4 stars in my book.(I’m a sucker for cupcakes) Worth noting — their cupcakes inspired us to have a cupcake tasting between the 3 closest bakeries(this place, Bakeshop and Chocolate Pink). 5th St. Café’s red velvet won our taste testing — again, well done 5th St.

It was the day of the Midtown Festival of the Arts, and brother it was HOT! My wife, my father-in-law and I had seen enough booth-art, and we were sweaty and thirsty and a little hungry. 5th street café happened to be at the south end of the festival on Ptree St, and my(pregnant) wife just needed to sit down and have some water and a nice lunch. OH and it was her birthday, for christ’s sake, so we wanted someplace kind of nice, and from the exterior, this place seemed like a good fit. The interior seemed nice enough. We weren’t really acknowledged by anyone, and there was no host, so we finally asked if we should take a seat or wait for someone to seat us. We were told by a breathless waiter running by that we could sit down where we wanted, but it might be a few minutes before someone got to us because they were so busy. That’s odd:¾ of the restaurant is *empty* and there’s no line waiting to sit, but OK… it’s apparently the busiest they’ve ever been. This should have been taken as a warning sign, but in our starved naïveté we cheerily took a booth by the window. We were brought water, but weren’t offered anything else to drink. I would have liked some cold tea, but that’s ok. I’m not quite sure who our waiter was, because we had about 3 different people come to our table over the course of the lunch. Each of these three seemed to be harried by the apparent crowd of people filling ¼ of the restaurant. Maybe I’m being a little harsh, but if these people were overworked on that day, it’s only because the place is poorly managed. There’s a freaking art festival going on right outside your front door, so you better be prepared for some traffic. They clearly weren’t. We ordered some sandwiches, each of which sounded interesting on the menu, and none of which fit the description on the menu when they finally arrived. My ‘rare roast beef’ wasn’t rare, and didn’t have any pickled onions as indicated on the menu; my wife’s fresh mozzarella and tomato sandwich was a little dry because it was missing mayo(again, as indicated on the menu). On top of that, about halfway through the sandwich, my wife had to put it down because she said that parts of the bread tasted *moldy*. Granted, her pregnancy has given her superhuman smell and taste, but at the very least these sandwiches were not *fresh*, as we were expecting. Service was very slow for everything; we got only one water refill, and it took forever, of course, for the food and the check, etc. Overall, not a very pleasant place to eat. I’m pretty certain that I wouldn’t go back here. The service was slow and spotty, the food was disappointing. I’m giving this place two stars because I’m a really nice guy and it wasn’t completely disgusting(although my wife would probably disagree).

Went to the new restaurant for a Sunday Brunch. We were literally the first poeple in there at 11AM. Guess it will take a little while before they pickup a crowd. The restaurant is located in the space that used to ENO’s. The space has been renovated and there is much more light in the room now. Very nice. Great space layout and they also have outdoor seating. Not sure I am too crazy about sitting in Peachtree St exchaust fumes for dinner/brunch, but we all have different preferences. The place has been changed to be more of a bistro with a European flavor to it. The place is both a bakery(opens 8AM in the morning) and a Bistro. The bakery has some very appetizing things, you have to stop by if you happen to go there ot get a sense of the kind of baked goods they do. We have only tried the Sunday brunch. As the number of people there were limited we had a lot of attention from the staff(thank you!). The juices are not freshly squezzed. The coffee is really good if served in smaller European styled cups. We had quiche and eggs with bacon. The quiche was very good and served with a side salad. The scrambled eggs were served with bacon and fried potatoes. The scrambled eggs were very fluffy and tasty. Overall the experience is that they have a high quality chef that makes great food. We had a great experience and are certainly coming back to test their dinner. I am sure we will also return for more brunches. Very nice addition to the neighborhood.

The ambience is a cross between country French and modern chic, very unique and interesting. The space is noisy due to the lack of any acoustic dampeners. The servers were very attentive as we might have been overlooked being the only guests eating outside on the sidewalk seating. The warm beet and baby carrot salad with balsamic syrup and goat cheese was divine. The artichoke with lemon dipping sauce was beautifully prepared and delicious. My companion savored a melt-in-your mouth beef short ribs.

I’m a little confused as to how to write this review. I’m not really sure what I CAN review out of this place. I went there for lunch. and walked into a very empty restaurant. There was one other couple out on the terrace. I walked up to the bartender who was setting stuff up and asked if they were even open.(that’s not a good sign to start a meal). He assured me they were, and another employee appeared and was helpful. directing me to the sandwich counter that they use during the lunch/brunch meals apparently. Their selection was a limited but creative take on sandwiches, along with a soup and a few salads. After ordering, I was surprised when the drinks were almost an afterthought, I was walking away to find a table when they asked about them. When I inquired about what they had I was told a generic list of colas, tea, water etc. No attempt to offer a glass of wine, or beer or mixed drink, even though they have an impressive looking bar. The sandwich was better than average, though a little on the small side. The homemade chips were better than expected, not bathed in grease like many others. There wasn’t anything I could really ding this place on… It just seemed like it doesn’t know what/how it wants to be. Maybe dinner is where it shines… maybe if my schedule changes I’ll check it out.

Until I get a real taste of the menu, I’d say this place if A-OK. I must say that I love the chic décor… Black & White. I most likely would’ve had these colors on anyway at the Unilocal event cuz they’re my signature colors. I started off with not one but two peach sidecar drinks and one cranberry and vodka… both were very good… not too sweet and just strong enough to have me light headed at the end of the eve. Then came a taste of the«spoon» entrees, I could only eat the corn tortellini which had an interesting flavor. They also had short ribs and I heard they were good. The waiters seemed to be overwhelmed and short on the hot food items and you had to position yourself or flag them down to come to your table. I kept wondering… Where is a chicken dish? The servings were light as light can get… barely available! For dessert they had some pastry bites. One was some orange marmalade type, then there was a chocolate cheesecake and red velvet cake… the last two being my favorite. Best of all they had several rounds of dessert… I hadda say No thank you… and I think I did so as to not appear greedy in front of my new Unilocal friends… cuz I was hungry. Tipsy… but hungry. Oh yeah… the main bar is beautiful and well stocked… it turned me on and I rarely drink… but eh hem. Unilocal events bring out the closet alcoholic in me!(Just be sure to tip well, cuz as Kathleen says, «Drinks don’t pay for themselves!») I had a chance to sit and talk to the marketing rep for the place, she was really nice and I know that I’ll return, using my wonderful coupon provided.

Charming. The former Eno’s space has been transformed into a contemporary bistro with black and white décor including a b/w ceiling, b/w movies playing on TV screens, and charming touches to add a Euro vibe. While the décor beckons you and the food will keep you coming back. After the Unilocal Elite party we stayed for dinner. Needless to say the Peach sidecar(peach nectar and vodka with a peach slice), cod fritter bites and taste of the brisket entices us to stay to enjoy a meal. We savored: local vegetable and beet salad with a beet balsamic syrup — this delicious warm salad is fresh, fresh, fresh and soo yummy with seasonal veggies cooked to perfection and tossed with balsamic reduction. warm goat cheese and caramelized onion tart — this butter-crusted tart is worth the calories. it is topped with a frisee salad and a light vinaigrette chilled artichoke with lemon dipping sauce — perfectly cooked and chilled choke with a decadent dipping sauce beef short ribs, red wine reduction, garlic potatoes and green beans — tender, melt-in-your-mouth short ribs(cooked to perfection) — this is comfort food at its best.(Would have liked to see the the cippolini onions cooked a few minutes longer — minor point in such a delicious meal.) We didn’t sample dessert or the raved about coffee. But plan to come back for dessert and a visit to the charming patisserie tucked in the corner of the bistro.

Had a very pleasant meal at 5th Street Café. The food was solid top-to-bottom. Our waitress was attentive and helpful and the manager was glad-handing people all evening. The vibe is much more relaxed than the previous tenant Eno, but the overall atmosphere is still great. Could stand to lose or reposition the televeision, but other than that, no complaints.

I am so excited to revisit 5th Street Café with buddies!!! And in reference to the lady who complained about walking 5 blocks in the heat… would anyone in their right mind ever listen to a lazy broken down human, their amount of consumption does not speak for their commitment to quality. Next time Mrs. 5 blocks should consider hijacking the nearest jazzy rascal and racing down peachtree screaming feed me…

Ok, to be fair, this is a review of the lunch café and not the restaurant. But it’s enough to turn me off from both. Maybe I’ll give the restaurant another try, but won’t be for a while. Just finshed meeting a friend there for lunch and came home to eat a snack since I was still hungry after my EIGHTDOLLAR sandwich. We chose to go there b/c of the ScoutMob deal, but after ordering were informed that only applies to dinner.(Had we known that, we probably wouldn’t have even gone in the first place.) I ordered the French Dip and saw the lady take it out of the fridge, unwap the cellophane, and take the pre-made sandwich to the back to warm it up. When I sat down to ate it, there was such a thin layer of meat between the bread, that I pushed it all to once side just to have a wholesome ½ sandwhich. The homemade chips, which I normally can’t stop eating at most places, were not crisp and needed salt. I left half of them on my plate along with the rest of the bread from my sandwhich. It seems like they are still trying to figure out what’s going on too. The doors were locked when I tried to get in. Apparently i tried to walk into the restaurant instead of the café. But when you order from the café, you sit in the restaurant. I think they are trying to be two things at once, but yet one in the same. I’m not a frequent Unilocaler but check here for reviews quite often. Today I noticed the Unilocal lady was sitting at the table next to me trying to coordinate a Unilocal event there. Maybe the bar/restaurant has a lot more to offer than the café. But, Miss Unilocal,I would vote for a different location! Café = Overpriced and Underwhelming

So I definitely will not become a regular or even returning patron of 5 St. Café after giving them two attempts and been sorely frustrated both times. First attempt was after seeing one of those cheap looking sandwich board signs outside offering breakfast lunch and dinner finished with me wasting most of my lunch walking there only to find out they wouldn’t be serving lunch until the following week — with a little bity print out in the windows not visible from the street. Why put the sign out yet if all offerings aren’t available? Ok, I’ll give you a second chance. What a disaster. Again, went in for lunch, waited over 20 minutes for what appeared to me to be pre-made food. I then attempted to use the Scout Mob deal but was told that it was only valid during dinner hours when servers were present. There’s no disclaimer on the Scout Mob that deal is only for dinner hours, and after my ridiculous wait for my food(again, eating up my entire lunch hour) I would suggest that maybe there should be servers during the lunch hour. At this point I’ve been fooled twice, so shame on me. And shame on you if you experience the same after reading this. I won’t even bother trying to use the Scout Mob during dinner — growing pains or not for a new restaurant.

I believe this soon to be trendy spot is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I wasn’t happy with my cold artichoke appetizer(it was under cooked therefore inedible). The manager handled the situation very gracefully however. I also wasn’t a fan of the gnocchi entrée — it was way over sauced and looked unappealing. They do better here with simpler preparations like the fillet of beef and I believe the menu needs some tweaking. With that said you can have a decent meal here, and the service is great. I really think this place is more about the bar scene than the food anyway.

We originally decided to try this place because of the 50% off deal on Scoutmob, and after dining I would definitely say that I’d go back even without a coupon. The restaurant had only been opened for a few days, and we came for an early dinner on Friday night. My husband and I split the goat cheese tart, warm vegetable salad, and spare ribs. The goat cheese tart was small but it had the most delicious, melt in your mouth buttery crust. If you’re a fan of beets then you’ll like the vegetable salad. The spare ribs had a very«comfort food» appeal to it– rich flavors, the meat was very tender, and it was a very satisfying dish. It looked like there were still a few items to be addressed on the punch list(e.g. no toilet paper holder in the bathroom) but the food is spot on and definitely a place I look forward to dining at again.

As someone who actually missed Eno after they closed(I love their wine list and some of their pricey food), I am so happy that something has opened in its place. But, I was worried it might suck. My first impression is that it does not suck at all. In fact, I kinda like it and I see myself hanging out here(it is on my block so…). The interior is much more open that it was with Eno. They have taken down a wall, opened up the bar, made everything white, and also opened up the part that used to be Barrelman. The former Barrelman site will be a patisserie, where they will bake their own stuff daily for sale and will have sandwiches and coffee and such. They are already baking their own bread for the restaurant(and it was good). We only had drinks and appetizers from the smallish menu. We had the chilled artichoke with lemon dipping sauce, the cheese and meat plate, and goat cheese tarte. All were good. The cheese was really good and I’m glad they are continuing Eno’s tradition of having interesting and delicious cheeses. The goat cheese tarte was delicious, too. The artichoke was good but I think I might order something else the next time. The service was friendly but I think they are working out some kinks still. But, everyone was super nice and I like it here. I will definitely be back.
