These gals are it! Very friendly and professional. I always come out happy and looking great! It is the people that count and make a place, not its walls. This speaks volumes, no pun intended. I do not mind the 80s retro look of the place at all, it is actually very soothing and not loud.

Came for a deep conditioning, cut and blow dry with a groupon. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming and nice. When I first walked in it felt just like a local hair salon. Very basic inside yea but the quality of the service is great! Ximena was friendly, listened to what I wanted done and provided input also. She took her time and asked me questions throughout my visit. The woman who washed my hair was also very nice(not sure of her name). If your looking for a low key, down to earth salon this is the place to go. I’ll be recommending Ximena to my friends!

Came in for a haircut over the weekend. Yes, the location is dated. but the people who work there are professional and very friendly. The woman who washed my hair was very pleasant. Made small talk with me and kept me entertained through the process. Maria cut my hair and did a great job. I wanted to keep the length and just get a trim to get rid of the dead ends. It was $ 50 for wash, cut, & blowdry. And if you check in, you get a free conditioning treatment, which was about 10 minutes. I’m happy with my cut and the service I got here. The staff was great.

I could not believe that people are complaining about the decoration. You are not there to buy the place it does not matter. I found the staff very professional and very experienced. Adriana colored my roots(came out perfect), cut my hair and blow dried it. She is a very nice person and she did everything perfectly. Front desk was very helpful including easy scheduling. I did not get her name but the lady who washed my hair was very nice, too. She was there whenever I needed her. Overall, it was a great experience and I will go back.

I got a hair cut with a groupon special. At first I was surprised by how outdated the place looked(like small town beauty salon with a kick of 80´s), but the minute I walked in the friendly woman at the desk welcomed me right away, took my coat, and then brought me to the back to get my hair washed. I got Elizabeth, and I was really pleased with the cut. I have long straight hair, and because of that, I always get the hair dresser who´s feeling creative, and completely dismisses what I ask for. But I would definitely go back to Elizabeth again.

Please I had to respond to Sandy B’s comment below. I’m sorry Sandy but who doesn’t call to check on an appointment during a snow storm… really?

I will never ever return to this salon. The day of my appointment the salon was closed due to snow storm yet NOONE called me to cancel. The next day I was contacted by Carmen who informed me they could not call me because their phone was down. I cannot believe in this day and age not one cell phone was available to anyone in the salon. When I asked why no one called me from home I was informed it is against their policy to take a client’s number home. Clearly not notifying the clients their appointment is cancelled is their policy. Having clients show up to find the gates down is more appropriate. I completely understand closing the salon due to inclement weather however not notifying the clients and providing poor lies as excuses to justify their rude behavior is unacceptable. Clients should be treated with respect and courtesy. I will never recommed this salon to anyone and will make sure everyone is aware of my horrible experience.

Marisol is pretty rude and seemed to get annoyed when I was telling her what I want. She literally told me «I heard you the first time» when I politely asked her not to cut it too short. The haircut was decent. She cut my bangs straight down like a rice bowl haircut instead of angled, which I thought was weird. But, overall, I’m not unhappy with my hair. I came from Gigi’s and going from $ 75 to a $ 27 haircut is amazing. You get what you pay for though– she was about to send me out into 20 degree weather with soaking wet hair bc I wasn’t having a blow out done. Anyway, this place is decent and worth the price, just maybe go to someone else. Update: after seeing the haircut in my hairs natural state I have to say– marisol, you seriously suck. I guess she didn’t «hear me the first time» when I told her my bangs were angeled and not that of a 3 year old boy. I now have a whole bunch of awkward hair on my forehead. Rude, bad at what she does, avoid her!

When I used to live in Astoria, Ximena at She Goes to Your Head was my go-to. The salon itself is outdated, but the staff is really nice and the quality of service is amazing for the price. Sometimes I would have to book a few weeks in advance for a weekend appointment(closed Sunday), so keep that in mind.

Very friendly staff. Walked in to see if I could get a haircut today. Didn’t have to wait long. Was my first time and I told the woman doing my hair to do as she pleased. I absolutely love the outcome! And you can’t beat the price! I would highly recommend this place!

I’ve been coming here to see Ximena for a few years and can’t recommend her highly enough. Well, I let my roots grow in a little too long and was in desperate need of a touch up. I called for an appointment and was told she was on vacation. Panic set in, I could not wait! Marisol was available so they made me an appointment with her, and wouldn’t you know… LOVED my color and cut. This just goes to show, the hair dressers at She Goes To Your Head are all equally talented and I would recommend all of them.(My roots and curly hair aren’t easy) Plus, it doesn’t hurt that everyone there is always in a great mood and loves to chat about what’s been going on since your last visit. It’s like a fun chatty morning with the girls.

I’ve been coming to this salon for over a year. I used to go to a different salon in the neighborhood, but due to prices/groupons, I came across this salon. Now this isn’t exactly the«best looking» salon, but who cares, you’re getting your hair done, not staying for the weekend. The first time I came in they booked my appointment with Ximena. She was AMAZING. she was fast and precise, not too chatty and my hair came out fabulously. That’s all I look for in a salon. After my initial Groupon, I received a coupon for my next appointment, which I thought was definitely a great reason to keep coming back. I totally forgot that I ever went any place else. I started becoming a regular, booking appointments on Thursday’s(20% off on all chemical treatments) as well as participating in various promotions( Unilocal, groupon, etc.). I recommended various friends/family, to which I also received credit, which was a plus. As with most salons, not all stylists are the same, and I always recommend going with someone you are happy with. Recently my usual colorist wasn’t available and I had an experience with another colorist which I wasn’t 100% happy with. I let them know that I wasn’t totally content and the staff(mainly Jackie — who is beyond amazing) rectified the situation. They went above and beyond anything I have ever seen to make sure that I got exactly what I wanted. Walking out of a salon unhappy is enough to make you not go back. Because of their attention to detail, their genuine concern and overall ability, I recommend this salon — especially any services by Ximena.

I LOVE this salon ! I have been coming here for years simply because of the customer service, prices and excellent hair cuts ! Now I know we are all familiar with the hairdressers that get scissor happy unfortunately but the stylists at she goes to your head actually listen to the customer and cut what YOU want, not what they think looks good . I always make an appointment with Millie she is amazing, but I was in desperate need of a cut and didn’t make an appointment, I just walked in and only one stylist was working that day so I had no choice but I’m very happy I stayed, her name is Maria and I told her what I wanted done and not only did she listen but she gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had in my life !!! Yes the décor is a little 1980’s but who really cares ?! The prices are excellent, the service is great and everyone is super friendly and accommodating ! I will always be a customer at this salon no matter where I live because I have been disappointed way too many times at other salons . Keep up the excellent work ladies !

I just moved to Astoria so I was very picky about who will be touching my luscious head of hair. After reading it’s Unilocal reviews I decided to take a chance and head on over to Steinway. The woman at the front desk was SUPER sweet and completely welcoming since she knew I was a new customer. Maria did my hair and she did it exactly the way I wanted, no problem. Couldn’t have been happier with my hair. Yeah the interior of this place could probably use Tabatha’s help but the service I got for the price I paid was UNBELIEVABLE value. You should really let her go to your head!

Very disappointed. I am surprised this place has positive reviews — probably all fake. I went there for highlights and a haircut. First off — the place is in the middle of nowhere — takes forever to get to it. Second, and most importantly, I got the worst highlights I ever had(and I am doing highlights for last 15 years 6 – 8 times every year — so you can count). Next day, my hair looked like I had highlights done a month ago — very sloppy job — she put the color very sparingly(to save her time) and left a large margin between the roots and the color(again, she was in a hurry and did not care) — despite the fact that I specifically asked her to put color next to the roots — she just ignored my comment. The result — I looked like I had 1-month old highlights. The color was a cheap yellow color, despite the fact that I paid extra for the toner. The cut was very uneven and sloppy too — the hair on one side of my face were longer than on the other — she just forgot to cut on one side, I suppose. I dont understand how people like these stay in business. Simply the worst.

Yes. I have found my hair salon!!! Don’t let the curb appeal fool you. Millie was my hair stylist. She was amazing. And listened to everything I wanted. The woman who worked the front desk was so nice. And I didn’t have to pay with my first born! I will definitely be returning.

After a negative experience at a salon in neighboring Long Island City, and after researching other nearby salons, I decided to try She Goes to Your Head. A Unilocal deal also helped persuade me :) I called the salon to ask for a price, and they were incredibly helpful, listening carefully to my needs, providing me with price points. They told me I could come in for a consultation, so that they could give me an exact price quote. The day I came, they helped me right away, and again were really attentive to my needs. I wanted to get highlights for the first time to cover up some gray hairs, but I didn’t want anything too noticeable, just a subtle look. Marisol introduced herself and told me what she would be able to do with the color. A reasonable price was quoted and I made an appointment for two days later. The day of the appointment, I arrived a bit early and they were ready for me at the exact appointment time. Marisol looked at my hair and the way it fell and mixed the color. She put the highlights in carefully, but swiftly and before I knew it, I was ready to let the color set. She checked twice as the color was setting, which was definitely a comfort to me because I knew she wouldn’t let it get too bright. After she washed out the dye, she blew dry a strand so I could decide if I wanted the color darker or lighter. This was also great because I could tell she wanted me to be happy with the color and communicate any concerns. The color was perfect! I went back to the sinks and a deep conditioner was put in my hair to protect it from drying out(also included in the price). What I really liked about the washing process was both Marisol and her assistant Clarissa asked several times if the water temperature was OK, making sure I was comfortable. At the end of the second wash, Clarissa asked if I wanted to rinse my hair with cold water to maintain the shine. She let me know when the temperature would drop and made sure it wasn’t too cold. I waited about 10 minutes after the wash for the cut and blow dry. Marisol checked with me about the amount I wanted to take off(only a trim) and added layers and angles. She worked carefully, separating sections of hair as she both cut and then blew the hair dry. She made sure everything was OK as she worked(I was a little bit quiet because I was in awe of how beautiful the color looked!). When she was finished, she asked I wanted any finishing product before spritzing in hairspray. Overall, this was an amazing salon experience. The people who work here put the clients first, listening to their needs and checking in with them periodically. Nothing is done without the client’s knowledge and consent, which is how every salon should be. I will absolutely come back to She Goes to Your Head and can’t wait for my next appointment here! One tip– Though they take card, be sure to bring cash for tips because you can’t tip off of a card here.
