The pizza was gross. Super thin, tasted like cardboard. Hardly any cheese on it. Out of the entire pizza, only 3 slices came flat. The remainder was all smashed up. Looks like someone stumped on the pizza with their feet. Then when I called to complain, they casually said, «oh its a new delivery guy» as if it takes training or more than a few brain cells to hold a pizza box flat. I’m throwing out their menu.

First week in Astoria Pitaria was one of the first gyros joints I hit. I must admit it was very good. Meat was moist and tender. The ratio of meat, veggies, sauce and pita was just right. Went there about a week later total opposite. Very bad. The gyro meat was dry and burnt. Tried again a week later same thing. With so many good gyro places in Astoria, Pitaria lost me as a customer. I liked their pizza pies. Would order delivery couple of times a month, but I stop that now. Place was closed for a couple of days by NYCHD. Shame on you…

Pitaria is under new management. The food is super yummy. I particularly like the breakfast sandwiches. Their new specialty is the pastas. I had the Linguini porcini mushroom dish the other night and it was awesome! Don’t let the previous reviews turn you off… I would definitely recommend checking this place out for yourself to see the new improvements!

I cannot speak for what this place used to be like back when it was Pinocchio’s and not Pitaria, but I love this place. Do not judge it based on the reviews for Pinocchio’s, as they often seem to get lumped together. This review is for Pitaria. The mozzarella sticks are delicious, and make everyone else’s stix taste bland.(They’ve got a nice bit of a garlic kick to them.) I usually order the stix, a gyro platter or sandwich or pizza. The gyro is always yummy, sometimes a little light on the white sauce, so I usually order it with extra. The pizza is as good as any of the other pizza joints nearby, arguably better. This is one of my favorite local places to grab some quick take out or delivery. Also, they’re open til midnight most nights, which always helps :)

This was one of the few pizza places my family and I visited while we were in New York for a week. We stumbled upon this place while we were coming from the transit and figured we’d have lunch here! (o) FOOD: We bought a couple of slices of the deep dish pizza with regular cheese, couple cheese sticks, some twisted garlic roll/bun looking things, and some soft drinks as well. The pizza and cheese sticks were really yummy! But as for the twisted garlic buns – it lacked fluffiness and the texture of it seemed hard to chew, although it was quite flavorful! (o)PRICE: Our total tab was about $ 25 to feed both my brother and I, as well as my parents. Pricing is reasonable. I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute«MUSTGO» but it’s a nice place to grab a piece of pizza if you happen to be in the neighborhood!

Their pizza rocks! Add a Pitaria salad to it and you’re dinner will be crushed,

A place that appears to have a friendly atmosphere with that kind staff can be of danger if you don’t know the menu well. I went there today and got myself a meal for which I was aware would be 9.95 but what I wasn’t expecting was the additional bill of 1.95 and 2.25. They were the soda and extra meat I thought that had come with the meal… apparently I misunderstood. Not wanting to argue I just paid for it. I thought their friendliness seemed suspicious… So yes if ever you’re curious make sure you ask what is part of the menu and what isn’t. Or else this place would have been at least a 3.

One of the worst food that I try in NYC, I order myself a cheese pizza which taste like cardboard box, gyros-dry and taste like dirt and a beef taste-ok but that doesn’t mean it taste good. I see this place everyday going to and out of work. I will never make a mistakes of coming here again, only if i am dirt drunk and don’t know better lol

I had a Gyro here and it was fine. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. It’s definitely not the best in Astoria. The service was excellent. The staff was attentive and courteous.

The lamb was lightly seasoned to bring out the full taste. The bread was light and fluffy and I was glad that they gave me two pieces. The mix of lamb and veal was tasty. It had a good amount of fat hanging off of every bite. The waitress was kind even though her English was very poor. The total was about $ 12 including tip for the donor platter. This is a definite good place for a fast grab. Very Greek styled, I was watching Greek TV and sitting next to a few old time Greeks enjoying their meal.

it’s a pretty unremarkable restaurant on 30th ave and one that many people walk by. They’re in the neighborhood serving up your standard greek food. They serve things up almost cafeteria style but some things are made to order. Ordered souvlaki which was made to order. The food was seasoned well but rather unremarkable. Would I go here again? Sure, but Greek dining isn’t exactly something I usually crave…(I must be living in the wrong neighborhood!).

Today was one of those days where I rushed out of the house to get to work on time so I wouldn’t have to hear my bosses mouth. Rushing= not being able to grab my lunch from the fridge, which means I had to order. I didn’t feel like ordering from my typical places. I felt like I wanted chicken souvlaki sandwich from a «new» place. I know Pitaria has been around for a couple of months now but I never tried it until today. I wish I did order from my typical place. I checked the menu online and right off the back, I decided against the chicken souvlaki. First of all, I shouldn’t even say it was a souvlaki! Online, the menu stated that the meat came from both the breast and the thigh. Once I saw chicken thigh meat, I immediately became turned off. Instead I went for something completely different, the Vegetarian sandwich and a small mesclun salad. I nice female greeted me over the telephone and before placing my order, I inquired about the Vegetarian pita sandwich. The female stated«oh, it has grilled carrots, mushrooms, and zucchini.» She did not mention anything else so I went ahead and I ordered that with the salad. When my order arrived, I noticed that my sandwich was NOT what it was described as! As a matter of fact, there wasn’t a description on menuism(I think)! What did I get? I got all the vegetables stated above along with stuff that wasn’t told me. Iceberg lettuce and tomato, which is fine but the major thing? Feta. I HATE feta. As a matter of fact, I get sick from it. The lady at Pitaria failed to inform me that they put feta in the sandwich. –sigh– Also, tzatziki sauce, which is okay; however, the yogurt and cucumber sauce(tzatziki) was not thick and it tasted more like white vinegar than anything else. The pita bread was stale and not warm at all. The vegetable was okay. What I don’t get is, why carrot? I know its a cheap vegetable but WHY?! The carrot was too hard for the sandwich and to add to that, too many slices of carrot. The zucchini was good but there were only two small pieces in it and then there were 3 or 4 mushrooms and 1 red pepper. Really, why carrots?! I took a couple of bites of the mesclun salad and it wasn’t all that great. The walnuts are chopped up so small to the point where I couldn’t get any on my fork with my salad! The balsamic and vinegar was okay. I was not thrilled about the small salad because there wasn’t much too it. Is it worth it? Absolutely not. When you are ordering, make sure you are asking specifics or you will be surprised. If you don’t like feta, ask if its added. Make sure you tell them you want your pita warmed up or you will get a dry/stale pita. I would give it only one star but I gave an extra one because the delivery time was good and the female was friendly even though she did not inform me of what the whole meal consisted of when I specifically asked her.

Bad bad bad!!! I know it’s convenient and looks somewhat inviting, but trust me, don’t waste your precious time and money. When it was Pinocchio, across the street, I may have considered two stars, due to the thin crust pizza being decent most of the time. But now, the service is horrible and the food quality has been spiraling downward. There are too many other decent gyro, pizza, and/or pasta places in Astoria to waste even one visit here.

i love trying new places in the neighborhood so i decided to stop in one night and get a gyro platter and a side of beets to go. the beets were amazing — it’s chopped red beets, onions, a vinegarette dressing and i asked them to top it off with a spoonful of sour cream — and boy was i delighted. the dish was flavor, filling and finally satisfied my beet craving — which i know sounds odd, but i love beets and it’s hard to find places that offer appetizers with beets. as for my gyro platter. i was extremely disappointed. instead of getting long slices of lamb, i got little lamb shavings that mostly consisted of fat — so i couldn’t even eat it. needless to say, i removed all the lamb and just ate the rest of my salad and pita bread — boring. so i’m giving this place one star for the delicious beets dish. if you’re looking for authentic, delicious greek /mediterranean food — go to Pita Hot or Opa! — both are near Pitaria and are also two of my favorite places for this type of food :)

Walked by this place many times doing errands up and down 30th Avenue. I always admired the brick oven through the windows and what looked to be really good pizza. Finally we swung through on a cold November evening for some Italian and although the place didn’t warm us up immediately(until we ordered a carafe of red wine and took a table by a wall heater), the food was nothing short of appetising! Their sauce was very fresh and just right for their chewy pizza dough. I had a small calzone which definitely was enough for 1 person with a nice size bowl of marinara to compliment. Very flavorful with fresh basil leaves adorning everything. We also had ordered a fried zucchini and eggplant side which came with an amazing garlicky dipping sauce that I’m still tasting this morning. Not busy at all for a Saturday night so they had«My Big Fat Greek Wedding» playing on the flat screen and everyone was watching… only in Astoria!

Some things here are pretty good — my bf, fan of chicken on sticks as he is(see my review of Thai Angel) is a big fan of their … whatsitcalled, chicken on a stick. It is really tasty. We also both love their pizza, and the outdoor seating is nice, if you don’t mind overlooking the fruit stand shoppers. Stay away from the Cesar salad — it was so drowning in dressing that I had to ask them to bring me some lettuce to mix with it. Also, the vegetable side dish I ordered there once — sorry, I can’t remember if it was spinach or something else, but I think it was just«mixed vegetables» was so dripping in oil that it just revolted me. It’s a nice neighborhood visit, once in a while.
