A friend suggested this place because it’s new and it has good reviews. We went on a Saturday for brunch at 1pm. It was really empty for brunch. I won’t talk about the service since the place was empty. I was glad to see that they had mussels and sausages for the brunch menu since this place is called mussels and sausages after all. I ordered the mussels to share and we also ordered the sausage burger and the eggs Benedict with sausage and smoke salmon. I really need to talk about the mussel dish that we ordered. The presentation was nice… and that is the only nice thing I can say about it. None of the mussels were clean properly!!! Every piece came with the beard not being removed! You can see my picture and see how gross it was. I mean it is not acceptable to leave the beard in any restaurant and this case is 100 times worse since it’s called mussels and sausages! You specialized in mussels so how can you not remove it! It’s cooking 101! This dish is really worth 1 star only. The sauce wasn’t that great and I personally like smaller mussels as they taste sweeter. The other 2 sausage dishes were just ok. One tasted like rubber and the sausage burger was flavorless. I will not go back to this place again unless they promise me they can clean the mussels properly then I might give it a second try. It was so disappointing! Please don’t call yourself something you can’t make properly!

This is a fantastic place that you need to try. The ambiance is perfect, dimly lit, candle light; it’s just warm and intimate. The staff is warm and attentive and just rounded out the whole experience. A nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails; we went for beer since it goes really well with mussels. We started out the with sriracha maple wings. They came out glistening with some shaved Brussels sprouts as a garnish. They were pretty awesome. Super crispy with flavors that just woke up your taste buds, they were sweet and spicy and I could have eaten another order. The Brussels sprout garnish was a great accompaniment but I wish there was more. Our meal was off to a great start. We opted to order a mussels dish and a sausage dish, I mean how could you not?! Mussels: We chose the Dijonnaise version; white wine, garlic, Dijon mustard, shallots, thyme & cream. The broth was excellent, so delicious. The mussels were some of the largest I have ever seen. They were cooked perfectly and awesome. Be sure to dip some of the bread they give you(as well as an order of fries) in that broth… you’re welcome. Sausage: We had the French Andouillette which was pork sausage served over lentils, carrots, celery and mustard. We were in heaven. The sausage on it’s own was good, but paired with those mustard lentils; it went to another level. Bite after bite, moving from the mussels to the sausage and back to the mussels the happier we became. We had such a great night here and can’t wait to do it again.

The name speaks for itself! Pretty neat concept they have going on and if you were to ask me, I like this more than flex mussels. The portion of the mussels were huge! The selection of mussels and sausages were great– so many different flavors to choose from. The staff is also super attentive and helpful– I would definitely recommend to come check it out if you are in the area.

I went for brunch. The menu was very limited but my two friends and I each ordered something different and all enjoyed our food. They also have a bottomless option that 2 of us took advantage of. The only things that knocked off a star were 1. there were gnats/flies all over. One ended up falling in my drink. 2. The waiter was very polite and gave good service but also dropped the check before we asked for it so we felt a bit rushed. The restaurant wasn’t busy so I was a bit confused by that. However, i work in the industry to maybe they are instructed to do that to prevent people from taking advantage of the bottomless… My friend and I had only had 3 drinks each at that point though so we had barely received our money’s worth. Overall, I did enjoy the place and hope it lasts. i was a big fan of 718 so i’m biased towards this location. Good luck!

Had both the Burgundian Mussels and the Bratwurst(which also included Brussels sprouts and bacon, not listed on the menu. Yum). Both were excellent. Keep in mind when ordering sides you do get bread to soak up the delicious cooking liquid that comes with the mussels. Despite its somewhat strange concept I would absolutely recommend. Defiantly will be going back. Mussels are enough to split as an entrée if you add in an appetizer.

Came here on a Saturday evening because it was a 2 hour wait a block down at Kyades and I am glad I did. The interior is so comfy and great for chatting with your friends. The crowd at the time was not loud or obnoxious, and everyone could hear each other. The food, scrumptious. My friend and I split a bucket of classic mussels, then had two of the specials: crispy skin salmon w/cherry tomatoes and a bed of spinach, and seafood risotto. Both the owner I believe and waiter were very attentive and asked us in detail how we liked our fish, spices, etc. When I asked about some of the items on the menu, they professionally and kindly admitted that they’ve never had it but would find out from the kitchen. Overall, food was absolutely wonderful and fills you up.

Decadent and delicious. More important: a chill and welcoming environment. I met the owner and the chef and we dined al fresco. Mussels Burgundian and mussels with chorizo were just what I wanted for a special occasion. And the ginger beer was delicious! Can’t wait to go back…

The food was phenomenal and the server, Laura, was very attentive. The only reason they didn’t receive 5 stars from me is due to the manager. I ordered the Portuguese sausage for an appetizer(it was delicious) and he came over and grabbed my silverware, without asking, in order to turn it. He seemed to think that is ok, even though he doesn’t know us at all. He also read us several reviews that didn’t shed a positive light on the restaurant which I thought was pretty weird. By the time he finished talking, our food was practically cold. Other than that, this place is great and we will definitely be back. Cheers to a great future.

This place is the bomb! The Bomb Diggity. The Bomb Diggity Dot Com! After seeing all the wonderful reviews on Unilocal,I had to check it out for brunch. When I walked in, there was barely anyone there. Not enough of the locals know about this place yet. So even though the food rivals NYC’s best brunch spots, you won’t have to wait in line for a terrible amount of time. The décor is new and wonderful, containing all the French accents one is accustomed to. There are plenty of seating, great for kids and groups. Now, the food is spectacular. My fiancé and I split a Sausage Burger(that came with fries and salad), and a pot of mussels. The mussels came with a free drink, so my fiancé got the Bellini. I opted for their bottomless mimosas for $ 15. What a deal! Especially since they do not skimp on the alcohol. The sausage burger was unbelievable, thick and juicy while not being greasy. The mussels were filled to the max and we couldn’t even finish it… which is saying a lot given how much I love mussels. We were stuffed when we left. Could barely walk home. Other notes: – Our waiter Elliot is awesome. Pretty sure I’ve seen him in theater before(like many NYC waiters). But he was very attentive and management should give him a raise. =) – They were very attentive with filling up the water. There was never a moment when our glasses were not filled. – Check this place out… because in a year, there’s going to be a 30 minute wait out the door.

I ordered the Portuguese mussels which has a little bit of both mussels and sausage. This is the only dish that has both. It was tasty. The mussels were plumpy. The side spinach was good as well. My friend ordered the flaming sausage appetizer. That was alright. It was just for the show of flaming a sausage.

I used to go to a place called The Mussel Pot in the West village area, and truly enjoyed the large variety of mussel pots they had on their menu. Unfortunately, they closed down years ago, so I was so excited to discover this place while walking around the area one day. So I made plans with friends to try it out, even making reservations despite knowing the place didn’t appear crowded when I first saw it. Imagine my disappointment when we finally got to try the place and I was presented with a brunch menu that only had one mussel pot choice and no sausage dishes at all. I was told they only have brunch menus on the weekend, and we had lunch at 1 pm. I wish their website stated that clearly, as it showed a full menu when I checked it. Despite this, we were determined to have mussels, so we just ordered a couple of pots of the same dish, and some sausage burgers to make up for the missing sausage experience. The food was pretty good overall, but I ended up enjoying the burger more than the mussels. The mussels were a decent size, and were not bad, but the flavors I was hoping for didn’t really come through. Maybe coming here at night on a weekday would prove a better experience, but since I don’t live in the neighborhood, it’s a bit of a trip to get there just to gamble on what will be available. Will probably give it another try, but as first visits go, this was disappointing.

Some of the best mussels I have ever eaten! Plump, juicy, and portions are very generous. Great Caesar’s salad to begin, and the crème brule is an absolute must. Get your own crème brule because it is too good to share. This is a great addition to Astoria’s many restaurants. The restaurant is also a beautiful space. I’ll be going back soon.

Good place if you want to grab some mussels. Wish they had a dish with both mussels and sausages. But if you’re coming with a friend like I did you can just get one of each so it’s no biggie.

Just had a fabulous Spanish Chorizo and Mussels dinner with Chef Niki. One of the best I have ever had. Great atmosphere and the drinks are well made and strong.

This new place on Ditmars is so cozy… there is delicious food nourishing the soul with great energy and vibes! The best place for cocktails and wine! Love the mussels and awesome different broths! The sausages are a must and one needs to keep going back to try them all! If you are not into mussels or sausages, they have the catch and cut of the day plus a scrumptious risotto… the sausage burger is a comforting option that will make you crave more and more… Check out their menu… and go! It’s worthwhile the trip… or if you live in the neighborhood, you now have a great local regular addition!

Tried this place for dinner the other night and had a great meal. Highlights: — Pretzel Bun that the sausage was served in — The flavor of the juice that mussels come in — Kronenbourg 1664 French Beer on tap — And the El Buho Mezcal is a nice non-french item offered up to warm you on a cold night :) The bar tender(Aaron I think his name was) was great. Look forward to trying their brunch

I honestly did not know what to make out of this place although the name of the joint seemed obvious. There rarely seemed to be patrons inside. A few of us decided to give it a try one day after Happy Hour ended. We were the only ones there for a majority of the time. Had some beer, mussels, and of course, sausage. Our reactions were mixed: Our mussels came in a ceramic vessel I usually associate with escargot; it was also breaded and overly drenched in EVOO. They were also the size of the tip of my thumb. The sausage came as a sandwich which was totally unexpected but it was good. We’ll see Mussels. We’ll see.

When you use mussels in the name of your restaurant, the expectation is that the mussels will be excellent. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. While the sauce was very good and the menu is diverse among mussels and sausages, I could not recommend this place due to size and quality of the mussels. They were on the very small side compared to other restaurants and supermarkets where I’ve had them. They give you a decent amount of them but they were just too damn small. Also, they don’t give you a large amount of broth as it only filled half an inch of my bowl. It was very flavorful and rich just a small amount. The place has excellent service and a great décor. The staff was very attentive and professional. I hope they get a better supply of their stable product in order to improve the experience.

In the former space of Francis Café, by the same owner known for his Staub cookware line, is a new restaurant that features, you guessed it, mussels and sausages. Walking in, everything looks pretty much the same as when it was Francis Café from the tables, seating, to the bar set up. There is a nice selection of beer and wine as well as decent cocktail offerings. The mussels were really good. We had the Portugese style which had a delicious rich broth and included a very flavorful chorizo sausage. It was only cut in half so we ate it separate from the mussels. We also ordered the Greek Sausage which came with two cut sausages roasted in a Staub roasting pot. Roasting the sausages did make it a bit dry and hard to cut through with regular knives that were provided. I ended up stabbing the pieces with a fork and tearing into it to eat it. Good thing my teeth are nice and strong. The mussels did not come with fries so we ordered it on the side. The fries were really nice golden, crispy and properly seasoned. We also ordered a side of sauteed garlic arugula(they didn’t have spinach) that was well prepared. Overall, an interesting take on simply prepared fare with good fresh ingredients and nice friendly service. Will definitely try again but may just stick with the mussels and sides.
