First time ordering here and it will be my last. Ordered the southern fried chicken and was very disappointed. You can get better fried chicken from a Kennedy or crown fried chicken for half the price. Was so dry that it was not eatable. To charge $ 15 also is disgraceful for the kind of chicken they delivered. I wouldn’t eat it again if it was free. Can’t speak for any other dishes they serve but I can’t imagine they could be any better. Don’t bother ordering the fried chicken.

This is perhaps Astoria-Ditmar’s nost underrated restaurant that is hidden amongst the big name Greek restaurants like MP Taverna and Kyklades. Yet it is their southern style food menu and reasonable prices that make this restaurant a pleasant dining experience on the street where you can sometimes overdose on Greek food(great Greek food that is). I first came here in late 2014 and have been here several times since and my experience has been consistent. The service has always been cordial, prompt and friendly. The first time I came they had happy hour food specials with really reasonable menu choices ranging from tacos with short ribs, wings and other delectable delights. My daughter who is 6 loves this place and their pulled pork with coleslaw and cornmeal pancakes. I have had their fried chicken on mac and cheese and it hits the spot well. I guess until the Texas style barbeque joints you can find on the other side of Astoria infiltrate the Ditmars section, my daughter will manage to convince me to come here for her favorite pulled pork. But independent of her fancies, I appreciate the variety of choices on their menu and the reasonableness in price. I think you really get your money’s worth here in terms of quality and service.

Just watched a guy get charged for bread without being told about it. He asked the waiter and they did nothing. Pretty lame move. They also charge you a 1.50 for extra sauce. This place is essentially using capital one credit card techniques to get extra fees. Food is fine, but you should put a disclaimer out before you charge people like that. Napkins were free though.

Do NOT order delivery from Bubba’s. Go there. It’s so worth it to just go and enjoy the atmosphere in this delicious Ditmars hole-in-the-wall. The quesadillas are amazing, as are the sliders. I have yet to try the caddy-wompus nachos, but those are next on my list! The Fried Chicken dinner is a phenomenal deal and should be ordered by everyone. All the time. So delicious. I was not expecting the deep-fried okra to be so massive, but they are… and I wasn’t upset about it. I repeat: they do deliver, but don’t order. It isn’t that their food doesn’t withstand delivery, It’s that a lot of items on their menu are better straight from the kitchen anyway. Some of their dinner deals come with multiple items that they forget come delivery-time. Again, delicious — but go there in person for dinner out! I Love Bubba’s and the little bit of southern cuisine it brings to Astoria(-:

Well hot damn, I think I’m in love! I saw this place walking down Ditmars and was thrilled to see a Southern spot in the neighborhood, so I bookmarked it to make sure to check it out. Just got back, and let me tell you — this place is an absolute gem! For an appetizer, I got 6 of the $ 1 Blue Point Oysters. Do you know how hard it is to find decent dollar oyster joints in the city? And these oysters were fresh, plump, and flavorful too! I raved to our waitress about how good they were and asked how often they have them on the menu, and she told us that Bubba inspects every batch and only buys them when they are at their best so it all depends on that. And it shows! I was tempted to order nothing but oysters for the evening, but I wanted to try out more of the menu(next time, however, I can’t guarantee that I won’t order 30 of them and gorge myself silly on ‘em). My husband had the corn fritters and I tried those as well and they were quite nice. The Jack Daniels sauce it comes with is amazing. For an entrée, I had really wanted the seafood boil I saw on the online menu but it wasn’t on the menu when we came. Our waitress told us that the Bubba changes out the menu all the time to keep it interesting. So I went with one of the daily specials — 1lb of brisket. Because meat. All of it. And my, oh my that is what I got. A huge dish of tender, melt-in-your-mouth, juicy brisket. My husband had the pulled pork sliders and I use the term«sliders» with a grain of salt here, because what he got were essentially three full pulled pork sandwiches. For $ 12 it was a huge value. As for taste, he was in heaven. During the course of the meal, I also had a Badass Pear Cider and a Not Your Father’s Root Beer. The beer menu is quite varied and has some fun choices as you can see. They also have their own house cocktails, which I didn’t have the chance to try out this time. We somehow managed to find a corner in our tummys to split dessert. The cutest thing is that they sell their desserts in small mason jars and you get to keep the mason jar. So you can take the desert to go if you’re too full. We tried a few delicious bites of the mud pie, but soon had to cap it and take it home. While dining, we got to meet the man himself — Nick aka«Bubba». He’s a very genial host and it was great to see him step out to make sure everyone was enjoying their meal. The service overall, in fact, was stellar. Despite a busy evening, our waitress was quick, friendly, and very helpful. And I accidentally dropped my gloves upon leaving, and a staff member raced out to bring them to me. So appreciative of this awesome staff. Honestly, I am so incredibly impressed with this place. I can’t wait to go back here. Until then, I’ll be over here in a glorious food coma.

I love to come here with my boyfriend! It’s one of the best restaurants in Astoria(and trust me I’m quite the foodie so I’ve tried them all!) I would definitely recommend getting the mac and cheese, it’s my favorite! Every single bite of the food at Bubba’s is full of flavor, you can literally taste that it is nothing but home cooked food! The aura of the place is also one that’s hard to find. Definitely the perfect balance of a place to go for a family dinner or a date night! Thanks Bubbas for brining your fabulous food to Astoria!

The menu is so fulfilling. What ever you are in the mood for, it is available. Chicken, steak, tacos. The food is flavorful. The chicken tacos and the corn fritters are so yummy. The service is great. We had such a fabulous waiter named Saul. The deserts are great too ! So many choices. Last but not least they serve Allagash Beer on tap. The best Brew ever !!!

Bubba’s Bistro is a decently sized restaurant in Astoria. It’s lively and there’s plenty of ambience to the place. One of my friends recommended this restaurant for brunch. We sat at the bar because most of the tables were filled at the time we came in. I imagine that it would get super busy some days. She and I had the crab meat benedict while my guy friend had a custom omelet. We all shared the poutine. The presentation of the food was lovely; everything was bright and the ingredients stood out. The crab meat benedict was delicious; the salad and country potatoes that came with it balances out the plate overall. The poutine tied us over very well. I like that the gravy was lighter in flavor compared to the beef gravy that usually comes with poutine. The bartender/server was very awesome to us, and everything came out timely. I would want to come to this restaurant when I’m in town.

Great place, friendly waiter, casual atmosphere, a place where you can hang out and enjoy. The shrimp po boy was very good. not excellent, hence the 4 starts, but very enjoyable. I know you don’t eat this kind of food for its healthiness, but I would have liked it to be a bit more healthy for it to get 5 starts(the fries were good but again not excellent). The strawberry, feta salad was incredible. I recommend this place.

I stepped into bubbas bistro a second time when a friend and I were looking for a place to eat. The first time a different friend and I randomly bumped into the place and were instantly charmed The place is warm and rustic but not suffocating The lighting is perfect as is the noise level The food is insanely good Every bite is full of flavor I had their beef barley soup and steak quesadilla Last time I had their dirty rice flavor in every bite I liked that the chef was available to the patrons Hes a friendly guy and very genuine The staff is helpful and courteous There’s also a bar and specials every day Definitely high on my list

Our waitress was very pleasant! Staff here really is excellent. Many servers came by and checked in on us, asking if we needed anything. Goes to show the staff as a whole cares about the diners’ experience, not just tending to their own tables! Mac and cheese was delicious. The wings were nice and tangy but could’ve used a little heat. I loved the California burger I got(can’t remember the exact name) and my boyfriend was raving about his«Crazy Ass Burger» lol. Wish I could’ve tried dessert but I was far too stuffed! This is the first restaurant I’ve tried in Astoria and it’s certainly set the bar high. This is comfort food done right!

Food: 3 stars Service: 2 stars They try really hard here but they can’t seem to get it right. While the food is decent, the service is spotty and inconsistent the last couple times we’ve been here. I want this restaurant to succeed but right now it’s just not where it needs to be with service. I wish them the best and hope they get to a better place. Until then, we won’t be back.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday with my family in town from Chicago. Having just moved to the Astoria-Ditmars area, I’ve been looking for new brunch spots to add into the rotation. Unfortunately, this place did very little to wow any of us. Unilocal describes 2 stars as «Meh. I’ve experienced better.», which is the perfect description of our time here. The five of us arrived at 10:30, just as the doors opened, and were the first ones seated. The brunch menu is pretty simple and standard — french toast, eggs benedict, omelettes, pancakes, etc. There’s also the option to order some sandwiches if you’re looking for something a bit more hearty. Anyway, the waitress came by and three of us asked for coffees while still deciding on what to order off the menu. So okay, I’m fairly certain standard procedure at most brunch spots is to have a large pot of freshly brewed coffee all ready to go by the time the doors open. However, the coffees were served one at a time, and once one coffee was brought out, it took about 2 – 3 minutes until we got the next one. Bizarre, I know. On top of it, the coffee was pretty crappy and damn near flavorless. Moving on… After we ordered our dishes, it took about 35 minutes to get served. Breakfast food should never take that long… ever. Even more frustrating was that two other tables that were seated well after us, got their food in about 15 minutes. Once we were finally served, the flavors and quality of the food just added even more fuel to the fire. I went with the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were overdone and plasma-like(barely runny), and the crab cake(if you want to call it that) was 90% bread crumbs and had a really off-putting sour after taste. Ugh. As for the everyone else at the table, they also had some grievances with their dishes, namely that the overall flavors were muted. To end our meal, we tried to get a refill on our coffees but after waiting about 10 minutes we gave up, got the check, and got the hell out of there. Given that I’ve only been here once, I don’t want to write-off Bubba’s completely. I may be back for lunch/dinner/drinks at some point and perhaps then my tune for this place will change. But as first impressions go, this was FAR from good.

I’m being awfully generous on this one. Came here with a dear friend for dinner this past Saturday evening. I excitedly ordered the seafood gumbo since ya know, I was a happy-go-lucky lobster in my previous life. Anyway, ordered it without the chorizo, repeatedly telling our server, that I don’t consume pork. My friend ordered the veggie burger without the chipotle-aioli sauce since he couldn’t have any dairy. Out comes our food, lo and behold, there’s pork mixed in with the rice in my gumbo which I had already started eating. And my friend’s burger had the chipotle-aioli sauce. I was in mid-bite when the server rushes over to tell me that he forgot that there’s pork in the rice! I was so bewildered, I sat there frozen with my fork mid air as he removed my plate asking me if I was okay. Good thing I was on my second sangria which was on the house needless to say! End of the night, can’t hate, won’t hate. Food was yummy and so was the sangria!

3.5 Stars! We were here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place is small but clean & comfy. The service was great! The staff were polite & friendly. We got the poutine & the pecan crusted catfish. The pecan crusted catfish came with a choice of rice or mashed, chorizo, & veggies. We thought it was just decent, nothing special. As for the poutine, it was good but it was definitely not a poutine. There was no cheese curds. It’s basically just regular cheese fries with shredded chicken & gravy. All total, our bill came out to about $ 30. They have great beer selection & the food portion were definitely generous.

This is a pretty decent local casual Southern style restaurant in the area. The food has always been consistent. On my most recent visit, we started with some Fried Calamari $ 10 which came out nice and light without being oily at all. We love that the calamari had equal amounts of body ring pieces including the legs. It came with a side salad that was dressed with a mild somewhat sweet tasting oil-based dressing. A touch of vinegar would’ve balanced it out better. I got the 3 piece Southern Fried Chicken $ 12.95 with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables as my main course. The fried chicken was cooked well, stayed moist and had a crispy crunch on the outside. Although the chicken could’ve had a bit more seasoning as it was kind of bland. They give you a giant bottle of Cholula hot sauce so that helps. I got 2 leg pieces and a small thigh piece with the order. My date got the Louisiana Shrimp Po’Boy $ 13 sandwich which came in a toasted brioche burger bun with 5 fried shrimp and a side basket of fries. It was good and well cooked but also under seasoned. Nothing too special but good for a quick dinner especially when you’re in the neighborhood.
