We loved the salsa and beans that came with the chips. Very friendly server and food was delicious! Well priced too!

Great service, bland food. I had the chlli colorado, didn’t have much flavor, lacked spices. The flan was watery, not much texture. Lot’s of other places to eat in Astoria

I really hate to say this because the service was fine, but it was the worst Mexican meal we have ever had! The chicken in the taco appeared to have been boiled, the meat in the shredded beef taco was a disgusting blob of fat and even the chips tasted stale! Hopefully, it was just a bad night, but would not try it again

This place rocks. The chicken burritos are amazing. Service is great so tip well. We sat in a booth next to the window over looking the Megler Bridge and the Columbia river. Good price for a plate full.

I have no idea what these people are talking about. Every time I have gone here the food and service is amazing! It’s great prices, great food, great service. I’ve been here probably 5 times and will come back regularly.

I’m not sure what all the negative reviews are about. We’ve eaten there half a dozen times at least, even proudly brought an out of town visitor. We’ve never had bad food or service. The food has been excellent, the servers attentive and friendly. If you don’t like the food and service here, go to Taco Bell as you’re not going to be happy anywhere. The fish tacos have been wonderful. The fajitas are sizzling hot and flavorful. Parking can be difficult during busy times, but heck most Astoria is a pain to get around during busy hours, so get over it and get to eatin’ Definitely going back again and again.

I’m a big fish taco fan and El Tapatio did not come close to satisfying my craving. There was almost no fish inside the breaded crust. It was basically a deep fried bread crumb taco. The tortillas were way too greasy and the rice was not fresh. The service was just ok. They came by and checked on us but were not enthusiastic at all. Like they were just going through the motions.

The food is a solid 3 stars. Good, not great. Don’t come looking for authentic Mexican food, but for the area it is what you would expect. We did carne asada burritos and a carne asada plate. Both were very good. Good flavor and the meat wasn’t tough. The beans are good and the rice is okay. The best was the mushroom salsa they bring out with chips. I never heard of this before but I need to learn to make this at home, so good! The service we received was great. Quick to seat us and as attentive as possible with the crowds. I only saw 2 people working the room but they stayed on top of things.(I am partial to judging service based on how busy the place is, in this case most of the restaurant was full) They had both coke and pepsi products which was another bonus as we have both preferences in our group. Also, the place is clean including their restrooms which is a big deal for us as we are on a road trip and passing through town. We all agree that if we are in the area again we would stop again!

A great find in a quaint little town! Our last port of call on our wonderful Alaska cruise, we were craving authentic Mexican food – and how lucky we were to find it here! It was a Sunday, so margaritas were $ 4 and lunch specials were available! Food was excellent, portions were generous and service was warm and attentive. Two thumbs up!

I live fairly close so wanted to like this place. Quite frankly, I have been disappointed each and every visit. My first visit was for shrimp soup. There were three tiny little bay shrimp in the entire bowl. Last visit was for Chile Rellano, tough and flavorless. Astoria and Warrenton have better options.

We have been coming here for years. And have always been pleased with delicious, moderately priced, and excellently served Mexican food. The salsa is to die for, and on the weekends they provide you with a second mushroom salsa that is beyond satisfying! We were offered seconds, because ours was devoured right away. It is always clean, and the staff is always kind and courteous. It was our honor to be served by the owner Juan, and previously by his wife during the day at lunch. This is our number one spot for delicious Mexican cuisine when at the coast! I always get the chili relleno and shredded beef enchilada. But their seasoned ground beef, chicken, pork, and seafood is excellent too! Thank you so much!

We were on our way back from Portland via Astoria when we decided to give this place a try. Throughout the trip, every time we stopped to eat, we would stoop into our mobiles to cherish the joys of free Wi-Fi while on international roaming! What happened to those golden days when people could have a proper conversation over the lunch table? :) Anyways, El Tapatio insisted on enforcing gentlemanly table manners by providing the slowest Wi-Fi I have ever encountered. :) We were not sure what to order, so, we decided to try the Fiesta Tapatia Platter, which offered an assortment of different dishes. The quesadillas(tortilla filled with cheese) were just okay, taquitos(small tortillas with sausage) and Chilli poppers(jalapeño peppers that have been hollowed out, stuffed with a mixture of cheese, spices and deep fried) were good. The chicken wings were super hot, and most of us could not enjoy it. They offered us free nachos and salsa at the table. Their salsa was watery, probably from sitting out for very long? The owner/manager made an earnest effort in making sure that we were comfortable, no complains about the service.

We had several selections. Mole, Tortilla Soup, Steak Tacos, Chili Relleno and Ceviche. Mole good and spicy, maybe a bit sweeter :) Steak tacos were fabulous, would get those again for sure! The Tortilla Soup was ok, I kept thinking the best was at Sandovals in Portland. Ceviche was made with what seemed like catsup and sour cream… Not the best but eatable. We found the best Chilli Relleno ever and will be back for that! Of course had a Negra Modelo! R & F(The Sudsuckers)

A totally incompetent waiter, my friend and I ordered margaritas, when they came they were extremely weak, we told the waiter this politely and he brought them back to the kitchen. When he returned he said the cook had«made the drinks» stronger, as well as including a shot of tequila for each of us. We thanked him kindly for the«favor» in those words. When we got the bill we had been charged for both shots if tequila(that we did not order) as well as being charged for both margaritas, when we told the waiter this he said that he could only get one shot taken off the bill(even though once again we never ordered them or asked for them). I will never eat here again, horrible customer service is a deal breaker.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Astoria(besides the taco truck). But here, it’s warm and I can be seated comfortably in the privacy of a booth or with family at a table. I always get the carne asada tacos but tried the ceviche which was ok. Great service but I don’t remember anything too special. good for kids also.

This is a 4-star review for astorians. If you come from a more southern latitude, adjust this to 3 stars. The food here is is pretty good. I especially like the tacos al carbon. The magaritas are good too.

(My official Mexican Restaurant Rant) After having been to «the mountaintop» as far as experiencing Mexican cuisine, I always am frustrated by the selection of Mexican places here on the north-coast. I can never find the mother-lode at one spot. When I find great chips, the salsa is bland. Great salsa? Mediocre chips and poor food. Great rice? Crappy beans. It is always a constant game of give and take. I would love to have a local place that delivers on all aspects of the meal. If I ever become a gazillionaire, I am going to hire on and relocate all of the chefs and cooks from my favourites from around the nation to assemble the perfect Mexican restaurant. El Tapatio has a fun and energetic vibe to it. All of the staff are very professional and friendly. We have never had a service complaint. Only complaint is the Medical Marijuana Dispensary located downstairs and adjacent to the restaurant. The smell of pot can be a bit overbearing as you enter the lobby area of El Tapatio. I am not a fan of weed, so the smell to me resembles a mixture of skunk spray and urine, and that is not a good mix with the aromas from my supper. You can almost get a contact high by just standing around at the door or the lavatory. Maybe that’s why we seem to eat so many chips! They have a cool mushroom salsa which is OK on it’s own, but we like to mix it with the regular table salsa for an added bonus and kick. Food is moderately priced and pretty good, but as with most of the places around here, offers nothing that makes me crave it later on(even with the Ode D’ Pot)(wink). Someday my prayers will be answered and we will get a Mexican place that I will need a restraining order to keep me out of… until that time, it’s always a variation upon a theme around here…(sigh) If they were Chinese places they would all be called«Ho-Hum».

I stopped to grab some food here because it is across the street from the Holiday Inn Express where I was staying. I didn’t want to drive anywhere so I went here and ordered tacos. The service was okay and friendly enough but when I got my tacos I found the carne asada was bitter and dull-tasting. It tasted as if it had been fried in very old oil or on a very dirty grill. I almost had it figured to be the cause of a weird recipe but then I ate a few chips which I will guess are homemade because they had the same old, bitter taste — fried in old oil and THEN not even seasoned with salt. The food was a letdown to say the least. The floors were dirty, especially by the entrance and under tables. Just not a great place. When I got my check, the $ 2 a la carte tacos on the menu had somehow gone up to $ 3 each. Huh??? Maybe they charge extra for«old grease.»

This is a good standard Mexican place. The food was what you’d expect, and the help is actually really nice. We were past the time for the lunch menu by about an hour, but the waiter was nice enough to extend to us the lunch specials. I had a taco and an enchilada and most everyone else had similar dishes. The food and presentation was fine – nothing to write home about, but good familiar food that you’d be comfortable with. They also split the check no problem. In all, standard food with very nice staff; not a bad lunch for about $ 10.

I always wonder about three star reviews– they seem kind of wishy washy to me– but that’s exactly what El Tapatio is– three stars– right down the middle, very safe little Mexican joint. The menu is huge– the food is pretty basic, the service was OK. I wasn’t blown away, nor was I aggravated when I left. Matter of fact, the only way I’ll probably remember this place was because we ended up meeting Daisy De la Hoya here by accident(look her up). So if you don’t end up meeting a good looking reality star here your review might be lower… or if you’re used to Taco Bell and Azteca your review may be higher. But overall it is what it is– Astoria Mexican Food.

Stopped in here for lunch today and had the best homemade Mexican food I have eaten in quite some time. This place is on the upper floor of the building when viewed from the front. There is some street parking in front and a parking lot in back. I had chile rellenos and a chicken enchilada. Both were very tasty and served with rice and beans on a very hot plate. My wife had the tortilla soup, and it too was delicious. They have a huge menu with every kind of Mexican food you could want. Very reasonable prices and great service. The owner stopped to chat with us and offered some site seeing tips for the area. Nice guy! If you are in Astoria and want some good Mexican food, this is the place.
