As a liberal arts university, UNCA expectedly touts dedicated, skilled theater students. The majority of productions put on at Carol Belk are directed by UNCA drama teachers, starring primarily UNCA drama students. The plays chosen incorporate intriguing plotlines; the crew always stuns, creating amazing sets (the background ladders for «Cabaret,» dear me!) & gorgeous costuming (the exquisite tatters of «Marisol,» lovely).
The best way to enjoy these productions is to come back. Attend a show one season. Then attent the next show they produce. You’ll see one or two of the same made-​up faces, but their talent will have spiked.
At the end of the day, you’re viewing a school play. A cohesively coordinated, excellently executed, prettily performed school play, but still, a school play.
