Best tailgate market in town. Recommend starting at the top of hill at Farm and Sparrow and sampling the breads. My favorite is the heirloom grit and their wood-fired croissants would give anything in France a run for the money. Then work your way down the hill. Hickory Nut gap meats have many different cuts from a variety of cows and pigs and they also sell bones for fido. Can’t go wrong with buying some local cheese from rare varieties of cows and goats. Grab the guernsey feta, some cucumbers and a red onion to make a wicked Greek salad. Maybe an affordable flower bouquet while you’re at it. When the sunflowers are in it’s like owning your own Van Gogh for a few days. Always good to ask vendors for recipe ideas.

As the other reviews have indicated, this market is a pretty special space. The woodsy, shady environment combines with live Appalachian music to create a unique atmosphere. The vendors are what you would expect at a farmers’ market in Asheville — a wide variety of small farms, bakeries, and artisans. Walked away with some serious yum-stuff: veggies, eggs, honey, meat, and farm cheese. Would go every Saturday if schedule permitted!

This is my favorite farmers’ market in town. It is in a nice shady lot with on-site parking on the UNCA campus. There is typically at least one musician playing, which is a really nice touch. Think bluegrass, folksy, drumming, etc. There is also often a local(north side) restaurant using market ingredients to craft a couple of dishes for sample and/or purchase. I especially like this particular market for the eclectic mix of farmers, cheese makers, bakers, crafters, and artists that show up every week!

Really good farmers market. If the lady with the Strawberry Cider is there — buy some. It is delicious. Purchased a great pottery coffee mug from a local artist, some dried Jalepeno peppers and other treats. Friendly vendors. Come here for breakfast — grab a scone from one of the several bakers and a cup of good coffee the walk around in the full shade.

What a great little market. It is tucked away on n a parking lot of UNCA. Blink an you will miss it. So, don’t blink too fast, as this is a true gem. Great local product and caters to mostly a local crowd. They have live music the few times I have gone. Go!

This is purported to be the oldest and most amazing farmers market in Asheville. It is on the campus of UNC Asheville. Easy to park. Shady. Has live music. And a real vibe to it. The downtown farmers market on Charlotte is also great and has similar vendors. All and all… this one wins.

This is my favorite market. They’ve been around for a long time and so I’m pretty upset that I didn’t go to the market at all while I was a student at UNCA for 4 years! Now I go every Saturday. They have great vendors with good food and it’s shaded under big trees for those hot summer mornings. Farm & Sparrow, Asheville Roasters, and Sweet Heart Bakery are among my favorites. Vinnie’s Italian comes with delicious foods to try, but the people are friendly and offer tons of samples. The crowd here is different than the City Market. There’s definitely more people here and it appears to be more of a local haunt.
