So disgusting! Tried this place last year and it was horrible. Gave it another try again today… Canned spinach straight from the can and soft chewy bacon. Hash browns were like mashed potatoes. Barf! Couldn’t eat it! Go to Hwy 29 café! Canyon Café consistently disappoints!

I always enjoy coming here. Great comfort food. For breakfast, I recommend the Linguisa omlet. I also find the wait staff to be very friendly, especially Trish.

Wow! We were heading to a recommended café in Sonoma. We were hungry and stumbled upon this roadside café! So glad we decided to stop. The breakfast was awesome! We all agreed it was one of the best breakfast meals we’ve had. The service was great! My 15 year old son commented he’d love me more if I could cook like this!

Trish is amazing! Trish treats her guest well and one of the best servers we have met! But I’ve got to say this place does have 1 person in particular that seems racist/unprofessional, and hates their job. But I won’t say names. Glasses. Other then that this place deserves 5 stars. Hopefully management can sometime sit in their own dinner and see how their employee work and act throughout the day. As this will benefit their restaurant and bring in more people.

This place should be shut down and the racist waitresses put out to pasture! This place is a JOKE; I thought I was on Candid Camera or something with the waitresses insulting African American customers and not providing service to another racially mixed couple(my wife and I). Upon looking at the other reviews on Unilocal,I can see why this place is considered a «Whites Only» establishment. It’s bad enough hiring ugly old hags as waitresses, but racist ones on top of it all???

This place is a gem in little ol’ American Canyon! American Canyon isn’t very big to begin with but with all the recent development and new restaurants opening up, it’s nice to know that a mom and pop place like Canyon Café is still around. Even though I’ve been living in AC for 13 years, this was the first time I’ve ever been to this restaurant. I went here for breakfast with my family and the restaurant had a nice homey, classic diner feel to it. The server was very nice and personal and treated us as if we were family! As for the food, this place serves big portions of traditional American food. I got the 2 egg meal with 4 slices of bacon, hash browns and a huge biscuit. It was very satisfying and the bacon slices were really thick! For $ 9.75, this meal was well worth the price for the quality and amount of food you’re getting. I know I will be coming here whenever I’m craving good breakfast food!

I can’t believe in 2015 this still happens. I felt like I just walked into a «whites only café «On 10.17.15 I came here to grab a bite to eat & when I pulled in the parking lot all eyes were on me & my group. Once we walked in you could tell the guest & staff did not want us here. The hostess didn’t even look up at us & just said… «I’ll be with y’all later» what! The cook seen us and just kept shaking his head. It was no f**king way I was going to pay to eat here so I could get spit or something worse in our foods. We just walked out and got back in the car. When leaving out the lot, I saw the hostess wave goodbye to us. If you look or not the right color, you most likely won’t be feeling very welcomed.

Chicagoan’s take note: this is an excellent diner. AND they were open early(we weren’t the first ones in at 7am on a Sunday morning). Bacon thick but crisp. Biscuits fluffy and fresh; country gravy rich and flavorful. Eggs perfectly cooked. Pancakes good enough to order the full stack. Coffee was much better than«diner» standard. Options to allow a monster-sized portion OR a slightly smaller amount(which was plenty)! Our waitress was professional, experienced and friendly, and gave EXCELLENT service.

First and last time coming here. When I first entered the door I wasn’t greeted whatsoever or even acknowledged. I came here to eat w/my parents and the waitress was down right rude! The waitress asked my parents if I was ready to order and I told her yes and she continued to speak to them as if she heard me but would speak directly to my parents. Who does that?! Then, when I told her my order that I wanted my egg cooked all the way I asked her if it was considered over medium or over well. My dad said that it was considered«sunny side up» but what do I know? I don’t cook! So, the waitress proceeds to talk down to my dad as if he’s stupid trying to correct him on the term & she does this for a good 5 minutes! Um, based on my customer service experiences you don’t do that at all! I get my food and I’m not really impressed w/it especially at the prices they charge. Atmosphere– Ehh, I feel like it looks dirty and they need some renovating. That café has been around for at least 20 year and needs a major update. Staff– Need to learn customer service skills Food– Basic menu w/overcharged items Overall, you’re better off going to Dennys or Ihop.

Trish was an amazing waitress for us and our two little ones… She thought in advance for what sort of foods the littlest one might need, and what the toddler might eat. And the food… So so good we were surprised! 3-egg omelette with veggies — the bell peppers were surprisingly crisp and delicious; the tomatoes were great, the jalapeños were tangy… She suggested adding the chorizo which was *delicious* — just the right amount of spicy and meaty. In fact — everything was great. The hash browns — real potatoes browned just right. The rye toast — phenomenal with just the right amount of butter. Trish suggested the bacon — which was amazing… Just the right level of crispness and meatiness. Overall one of the most surprising and best breakfasts experiences we’ve had In a long time — and the service was amazing and they made it family-friendly as well. Thanks Canyon Café and thanks Trish!

Our opinion has not changed since we first tried this diner about 4 – 5 month ago. We were new to the area and looking for someplace close with hearty food, friendly staff, and clean. It’s all that and then some. Food is always cooked just the way we like it. Trish is our favorite«breakfast:» waitress and she always has a smile for everyone whether they are established customers like us or folks who are dropping in or the first time. Yes, the place is dated… that is part of the ambiance… you want diner? This is a diner, not a leather, fern, and glass place. And even though a bit of paint and some updated window dressings(maybe some gingham window valances) would cheer the place up enormously, it’s immaculate and the staff is always cleaning in between serving. Portions are huge for the price charged — prices are reasonable compared to what we pay at other local breakfast places and diners. ANd you can often get the day’s meal special early in the AM if you’re one of those folks like my hubby who enjoys eating leftovers for breakfast… and would just as soon have a roast beef dinner than an omelet for breakfast. The eggs are super-jumbo, the country potatoes and hash browns are freshly made, not frozen, and the coffee is delicious. The corned beef hash is home made as well. I love the steak — always cooked the way I like it — and the liver and onions is one of our favorites. Excellent meatloaf. Honestly, we have not had a meal we didn’t like. What I would like to see more of? Dessert offerings, even if only seasonally. Strawberry shortcake, blueberry pie, pumpkin pie, hummingbird cake… Now that would top off an already exceptional meal just fine. Definitely a solid 4-PLUS… updated décor and a more extensive dessert menu would earn a 5 from me.

This a cute diner on the side of hwy 29. I’ve always driven past this place and wanted to try it. I have no complaints with my food and would come back for the homey, little diner atmosphere experience. I ordered the French toast combo and was very satisfied. My favorite part was that they heat up the maple syrup, definitely makes a difference! I didn’t care for my hash browns as they were a little oily. The décor and furniture is true to the statement diner eatery, and the service is great! I love little mom and pop places like this!

I think what I love most about this café is just how modest it is. It’s a small, right-off-the-highway location that’s not too far outside of San Francisco. Being in the bay area, it was very charming to experience a small-town breakfast as it was different from every other trip to date and reminded me that Northern California is so much more than San Francisco. The Food was good — about what you’d expect from a place like this. And We were served enough that three meals left five people full. The service was excellent. The lady who took our orders was very polite and did her best to not only serve us our meals, but to make us feel welcome. The place is humble — four walls that are just what they need to be. And of course the menu was in some awful typeface that let’s the designer in me that truly it’s the food that counts.

I got an omelet, it was ok. It had frozen spinach inside, which tasted kinda gross to me. The inside is dated and sort of cold and dirty. Kinda overpriced for what I got

Food: excellent! Fresh. Classic diner food. Quick to come out. Service: Slow. They only had two ladies working. Could’ve used another person even if it was to help clear tables and total bills. Our server would ask what we wanted but then come back and apologize for forgetting and ask again. She was very apologetic, which is appreciated but we really just wanted to eat. If you come hear, don’t be in a hurry.

We drive past this place often enough and decided to finally stop and try breakfast. As many Unilocal reviews we have read about Canyon Café, we were pretty excited to eat here today. We were not disappointed at all! Service was great, and the food was fantastic. My bf decided to order one of their specials, corned beef hash and I had the Canyon omelet. Both tasted delicious. We love their homemade hash browns… crispy just how it should be made. We will definitely come back!
