I am genuinely surprised by the number of very positive reviews for Smokejack. We ordered our meal as a carry-out & at first the order was forgotten when arriving to pick it up so we had a long wait. Then the order was missing an item which we had paid for. At that point, I thought at least if the food is decent, that will be OK. I ordered the Big Gun sandwich & was not a fan. Really just a mess of a hamburger. My side of fries were over cooked, the buttermilk chicken on the sandwich was very dry & the provolone cheese was like a sheet of plastic. The bun was also stale. Maybe it’s one of those places I could return to & have a much better experience but I really can’t say that my partner & I enjoyed it at all. I’m not someone to ever give such a low rating but we really thought our dinner was a waste of money.

We got a large carryout for Christmas Eve. Outstanding food, and the person handling the orders was friendly. It is our new go-to place for barbeque.

Great BBQ! I tried the BBQ salad and loved it! Our waitress was very helpful in explaining the menu items. Next time there are 2other items I want to order!

We tried Smokejack on a Saturday night. For a large group the wait wasn’t too bad, maybe 20 minutes, and you could get drinks at the bar. Our server was super helpful and anticipated needs well, offered us a variety of sauces and was very friendly. Fried pickles came with an interesting spicy side dipping sauce. I had the brisket sandwich with a side of pimento cheese grits– which were amazing! Also had a bite of the famed«burnt ends»…which are exactly what you’d expect, the burned, charred ends of brisket. So incredibly tasty but could hear my mother in the back of my mind going on about carcinogens! Had a few bites of the brownie dessert, which was average but at that point I was so full it didn’t matter. Overall this was an awesome barbeque experience! Of course you leave with a smoky smell but that’s to be expected really. Not too loud, even with the live band in the bar area, and cute décor. As an added bonus, Usher came in a picked up a to go order while we were there so that was pretty exciting.

Quite possibly the best wings I’ve ever had, and they’re only served as an appetizer. Unfortunately they only had one flavor but that one flavor is incredible. The pulled pork sandwich I had was quite scrumptious as well. Definitely going back. Try the wings. Please.

Loved everything about our meal there. Service was great, barbecue was great, sides were great, rally everything. I had the brisket and ribs plate, which was very good. My wife had the big chicken sandwich, which was also really good and HUGE. Beer selection was pretty good, as well. I can’t think of a thing I’d change about this place.

I went here with some friend over the weekend I was in town dropping of a rescue dog. Smokejack is in the small downtown area and that night is was super busy because they were lighting the christmas tree but they sat us at our table pretty fast and we were a party of 6, I had the Mojo smoke combo, you pick 3 i chose brisket, burnt ends and chicken wings, it comes with 2 side i had mac and cheese and pimento cheese grits. the mac and cheese is good if you like thick creamy mac and cheese, being from new orleans I was a little worried about the grits but I was told I must try them, to my surprise they were not bad. for the meat the brisket was good, the burnt ends are not true burnt ends and after having real burnt ends these kinda sucked, the smoked chicken wings were a little dry but the sauce on there was really good, its a little sweet and a little spicy. My hubby had the baby back ribs, thats not my favorite rib I think the meat to sauce ratio is off I like a lot of sauce cooked on my ribs. So I did not care for there ribs. Over all this place was pretty good.

Service is ok. I had spare ribs Memphis style. Totally weak. Overcooked. Rub was not smoked in: It’s like it was applied after cooking! Go to Fat Matt’s and get the real thing. Too much good BBQ in this town to accept mediocre, and this is definitely mediocre.

I had the Pulled Pork Shoulder. The food itself was tasty however the portions were a bit smaller than expected for the price. Other than the portions the environment of place was nice and homey. The staff was also friendly and seated us quickly even with our large party of seven. Lastly the food came out extremely fast. Overall it was a good experience though.

I’m always a fan of BBQ and this place had good reviews so I tried it out. The hostess was very welcoming when I walked in. My server was Margi and she was wonderful. Very polite and shared with me some of her favorite meals. I settled on the 3 meat combo: brisket, burnt ends and baby back ribs. OMG! Everything was good but I’ll go on record and say the ribs were the best I’ve ever had. They had a Memphis rub but I also had a side of KCBBQ sauce that put it over the top. I also had 2 sides: Mac n cheese and corn pudding. They were good but nothing to write home about. Later, I tried the Coca Cola and pecan cake with ice cream. Deliciousness!!! I’ll definitely be back to this place whenever I’m in town again. There were other staff members who came over to check up on me. The food came out quickly. And the place is very clean.

Everyone said Fat Matts is way better. Don’t believe it. Burnt ends were fantastic. Collard greens were perfect. Worth the trip!

Visiting family best ATL, they decided to take us Northerner’s out for some BBQ. The atmosphere of this place was fun. The service was friendly. And most importantly the food was good. All of us were pretty hungry so I think we all ordered something off the smoked dinner platter menu. Based on reading about it in other Unilocal reviews, I ordered the burnt ends. They were caramelized and the sauce had a pretty nice flavor. I’d order then again. D ordered the mojo meal with brisket, chicken, and chicken wings. Surprisingly, we both LOVED the wings. I don’t think I’ve ever had smoked wings before! They were awesome though. The portion sizes were pretty nice for the price and you get two sides with these meals! I would recommend not getting the veggies, not so great. But I liked the grits and the sweet potato mash. Overall, I’d go back there if I lived down here.

Burnt ends were amazing. Skip everything else and get those. It was a great place for groups. They had good customer service as well. Outside there was a small patio with great live music. I would recommend this place. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the experience was overall.

Went here after a ghost tour of alpharetta. I’m not a fan of that pungent smoked wood smell. after awhile my head was pounding with a smell induced headache. We ate outside on the back patio, as the weather was perfect. Ordered the blackened chicken and a side, had a complimentary fried pickles in a basket and sweet tea. Food was very tasty and fresh. It was a good experience. That smell though…

Checked out this place last night and it was pretty good for what I expected. We both were craving something light so ordered the smoked chicken cobb salad. It was exactly what I was hoping for so I was pleased with my menu choice. The restaurant is nicely laid out and you leave smelling like smoked meat. We spent a couple hours there catching up and enjoying our banana pudding dessert. The overall experience was great. Our server, Margie was fantastic. She did everything a server should do and we were very happy with the attention she gave us. I also ordered a cup of their Brunswick stew. It was not as flavorful as I expected but super meaty and thick. I might just be picky when it comes to my Brunswick stew since I’m a huge fan of the tomato based one from Williamson Bros. BBQ but if you dig thick, hearty stew, you’ll like their version. I hope to explore more of their smoked meats the next time we visit and give them another try sometime in the near future. I don’t think I can base my overall experience just on having a salad at a BBQ joint but giving the extra star for the stellar service we had from our server last night and look forward to revisiting them for dinner soon enough.

Smokejack BBQ is a different kind of BBQ in my opinion. Most sides are made fresh from scratch which I really liked. The first time I came here, the food was just okay. We had excellent service as our waitress was very knowledge about the menu and made some great recommendations. I ended up ordering the BBQ pulled chicken with baked beans and mashed sweet potatoes. The mashed sweet potatoes were good but I wasn’t a huge fan of the baked beans. I couldn’t understand why they put pieces of green pepper in it so the flavor wasn’t too good. The BBQ pulled chicken was also very different. I feel like the BBQ sauce was a bit bitter. The next time I came here, we ordered takeout. I ordered the Turkey Applecado Sandwich with grilled veggies. This sandwich was amazing! I definitely recommend it. It was about $ 10 for the sandwich and the side. The price is a bit high for a sandwich but it was worth it! It included smoked turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, apple, avocado, cucumber and mayo on Texas toast. It was right up my alley and somewhat healthy! I will be back just for this sandwich!

Why 5 stars… Because I’ve been twice and the service, food and mood have been great. The burnt ends are charred, tender, most and covered in a tasty sauce. The m&c was cheesy and minus the cheap box flavor. The collards I found tender, not greasy yet flavorful. They even have a patio out back. If they start having a blues band I will definitely come OTP for the experience. Great job folks.

I would give it 3 stars for food, 5 for service, so I averaged 4 here. I have been here a couple of times and I have to say the food leaves a bit to be desired. For an app I had a couple wings, then I had the half rack of ribs with the macaroni and cheese/baked beans as a side… I also had half of my boyfriends fried green tomato. The ribs were pretty good… I thought they were a bit heavy on the sauce but otherwise falling off the bone. The mac and cheese wasn’t my favorite although others at the table liked it. Probably personal preference. The beans were very tasty! Fried green tomato – not my thing wings – yumm Our server needs recognition because it was packed and he was on it! He split the check in 4(annoying for any server) and had drinks refilled/food out quickly with no issues. He was on point! Overall I would come back again!

I think I have found my new favorite BBQ in Alpharetta. We arrived around 7 with no reservation and didn’t call ahead(I’m not sure if they accept either, but because it’s Alpharetta…), and were seated immediately. We were seated so fast because we opted for the high top in the bar area instead of waiting. And this high top table is the only high top in the bar area. It’s a small table for two shoved against the wall. Both people are going to get screwed over because one person has to have their back to the waiting lobby area and will have people leaning on their chair. The other person still gets the short end of the stick because they are actually sitting at the long single-sided table but facing the opposite direction. The poor high top table was shoved there for the sake of having more tables without regard to the people who are stuck there. And that lucky couple was us! Fortunately, we moved the table around a bit and made more room available. We weren’t sure if we were considered to be sitting at the bar because no one approached us for about 10 minutes. Our server finally made her way to us and everything went smoothly after that. My Georgia Peach Tea and water was served promptly and she was able to get my husband a taste of a beer before he made his decision. By the time she arrived with his Cream Soda, we were ready to order. Fried pickles to start with, Triple B with fries for him and burnt ends for me. Fried Pickles with spicy dipping sauce ^^^ — Decent pickles with light breading. It was nice to have the light breading because I hate greasy, oily fried pickles. The highlight of this was the spicy dipping sauce which consisted of mayo mixed with Sriracha and some other secret items that weren’t divulged to me. Triple«B» with fries — Angus beef patty, smoked beef brisket and Applewood smoked bacon ^^^ — This is a giant sandwich. I’m surprised that this doesn’t come halved solely because picking it up whole seems impossible. But, impossible is a challenge to my better half and he definitely conquered it. He may or may not have equated the sandwich goodness to surprise sex. Burnt Ends with Kansas City BBQ sauce, mac’n’cheese and baked beans ^^^ — Pretty self-explanatory. The perfectly barked burnt ends of brisket that made my mouth water. It was easily love at first bite. I was surprised, because I’m more of a Carolina sauce person, but the tomato-based KC style was right on(or, as some people say, on fleek). I opted for classic BBQ sides and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The mac’n’cheese was so cheesy and full of carbs that it automatically got added into my list of comfort foods. I would take a bath in that stuff if possible. And the baked beans had so much flavor in them that I used my finger to clean the dish it was served in. No shame. Banana Pudding(The Real Deal) ^^^ — What kind of self-respecting native Georgian wouldn’t order ‘naner pudding with BBQ? Since I couldn’t unbutton my pants and remain decent while my food settled, we got this to-go. BUT, I took a bite of it before we left. I’m a bit disappointed with the pudding. It’s more runny that pudding. Almost soupy. The taste was consistent, but I didn’t like the texture. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The place loses a star because of the crap table. Soon after we arrived, another couple sat behind me at the single-sided table while waiting to be seated. Then they decided to just eat there. Well, that made it super awkward for me. The woman sat so close to me, she said, «Let me know when you want out honey.» She blocked me in. I had to ask for her to move to get up. And, like predicted, once the wait got longer and the place filled up with people waiting, my poor husband had people breathing down his neck. We’ll definitely be back, but next time we’ll wait for a proper table.
